Peel Post - Here We Go

Sub Mission: The new USS Peel goes on a shakedown cruise to get the Crew accustomed to the various upgraded technologies. Along the way they discover a distress call coming from a small colonized planet needing immediate assistance.

Now that all the transfers were completed between the two Ships, with everything being somewhat settled, and command protocols had been exchange between Captains Harper and O'Connell, it was time to leave the Station.

Sitting at command the Captain turned to his First Officer "Commander could you check in all the Stations and make sure everything is up and running" he requested.

"On it Captain" as Devroe stood and started her tour.

"Turning to Aloran "Counselor ready to start a new chapter in our adventure together" O'Connell inquired with a grin.

“I most certainly am Sir” Sarissa smiled warmly as she gave Jamie a nod of her head.

Making her way over to Tactical "Lieutenant SanChez good morning; Tactical ready to go" Devroe asked with a smile. "Yes Commander, ready and waiting" SanChez replied anxious to get going.

Moving to Science "Lieutenant Sayvek how are you. Are you set as well" the First Officer inquired.

" Forgive my speed. These systems are not configured as the previous ship. But I am well." Sayvek replied.

Lastly checking in with Ops and then Comms "Lieutenant Albo you good" Devroe questioned.

"Aye Commander" Johan replied looking past the XO giving Sarissa a smile. "All set Commander" Comms answered.

Tapping his chair comm "Lieutenant Flannery how are we looking down there" O'Connell asked already knowing the answer.

"Captain all systems are green for go and at your disposal" Marcus replied while giving the new Lieutenant a thumbs up for his help.

"Excellent" then opening a ship wide which he could now do himself "Attention Crew, this is your Captain. We'll be getting underway momentarily; please check out your assigned areas and become familiar with all your new tech. O'Connell out.

Devroe returned to her seat as she stated in a low voice "Everyone's set to go Captain."

With a smile O'Connell gave a nod then turned his attention to the matter at hand as he stood "Comms please hail M-69" moments later "Traffic Control this is the Peel requesting permission to disengage from the docking arm and proceed away from the Station." "Permission granted Captain bearing seven eight one point nine to clear the Station and have a safe trip." "Thank you Traffic Control; see you when we get back" Looking to Helm "Mr. Hanes, you know the drill."

"Aye Captain. Severing umbilicals.....disengaging docking claps.....thrusters engaged....moving away from the docking arm" Hanes informed command "Going to half impulse making our way to the outer markers."

"Excellent Ensign. Once we reach the markers warp four to start please" O'Connell ordered before sitting back in the big chair. "As you wish Captain." A few minutes later "Captain outer markers have been cleared....going to warp four now Sir." The Ship went to warp without being hardly noticeable.

Addressing his command team "Now that was about as smooth as it gets. So ladies you ready for this" Jamie asked with a smile. "Absolutely Captain" Angel replied with a smile.

“I second that Captain” Sarissa grinned. “This is going to be fun.”

About two hours went by when the Captain tapped his chair comm "Lieutenant Flannery, how we doing down there" he inquired.

"Good Captain, the core is humming along very nicely" Marcus replied "Feel free Sir to increase our speed anytime."

Hearing that "Helm increase our speed to warp eight" O'Connell ordered with a smile.

"Aye Sir increasing speed to warp eight now" as the Ship picked up speed being hardly noticeable.

After another few hours went by O'Connell looked to Devroe "Commander would you like to try out the new slipstream drive" he inquired with a smirk.

"I thought you'd never ask Captain; let's see what she got" the Commander replied with a grin.

"Lieutenant D'Nall when can we engage slipstream" O'Connell asked anxious to see how it would work.

Hearing the Captain D'Nall tapped his comm "Slipstream is on standby and is at your disposal Sir" then he paused "I would suggest if the Crew isn't sitting to have them hold on to something until they get used to being in slipstream."

"Duly noted; I'll make an announcement to the Crew prior to activating slipstream." O'Connell replied "Attention Crew we'll be going to slipstream momentarily; you'll hear 'Black Alert' first and if you're unable to be seated please hang on to something, Captain out."

Looking to Science and Helm "Lieutenant Sayvek, Ensign Hanes, once we jump to slipstream the Computer will make any minor adjustments so we don't run into anything. Also Mr. Sayvek please make a note, I would like to know the distance we travel at slipstream in the next twenty four hours" O'Connell ordered.

" Logically. I have designed a program to do just that. Bearing in mind sir the QSD requires a constant adjustment protol. Not unlike the original warp drive perimeters. Theoretically webshouldnhe able to travel 15,000 light years in 10 minutes." Sayvek replied.

Listening to his Science Chief "That's a lot of ground in a very short period of time" then he paused "We'll stay in slipstream for the next six hours and see if your assumptions are correct" O'Connell ordered. Looking to the XO giving her a nod "Black Alert!" Devroe called out "Helm initiate the quantum slipstream drive" came the order.

"Aye Commander....going to slipstream in 3...2...1....initiating now" the Ensign called out just before the Ship lunged forward; all that could be seen on the View Screen were streaks of white light as the Ship passed by the stars.

Tapping his chair comm "Lieutenant D'Nall how we looking with the QSD" he inquired.

"Excellent Captain, the QSD is operating as expected. Lieutenant Flannery and I will keep close watch of Engineering; about how long were you going to remain in slipstream Captain."

"Eight hours should give us a good indication of how this new drive is going to behave; wouldn't you agree Lieutenant."

"Yes Captain I agree and both of us will remain here until you drop out of slipstream then" D'Nall replied giving Marcus a thumbs up indicating things were going just fine.
