The eight hours rolled on by with the new drive performing quite well; as did the Crew which was no surprise to the Captain "Helm drop us out of slipstream then take us to warp seven if you would please; then steady as she goes" came the order.
"Aye Captain dropping out of slipstream now....going to warp factor seven sir" the Ensign stated letting out a small sigh of relief the test had been completed.
Since the Alpha shift had gone over the eight hours O'Connell tapped his chair comm "Beta Shift Bridge Crew please report to the Bridge" was the order as he stood addressing his Crew "Thank you all for staying over your allotted shift while we tested the slipstream drive. As soon as your replacements arrive then you are dismissed and have a pleasant evening" O'Connell stated with a smile.
"Captain, that went well" Devroe commented "So I guess I'll go to my quarters, shower and get some rest."
"Yes it went very well; at least now we know what this new drive is capable of should we really need it some time" O'Connell replied "Would you like to drop by my quarters for dinner later; that is if you don't mind pot luck."
With a smile "Yes I'd like that. It's eighteen hundred so would nineteen hundred work for you" Angel replied in a low voice.
"That'll be fine, plus it'll give me a chance to shed this uniform for something a bit more comfortable" Jamie answered with a grin.
Turning "Counselor you and the Lieutenant all settled in your new larger quarters; that should give you guys some breathing room instead of both of you being cramped into regular sized quarters" Jamie commented with a smile.
“It’s wonderful thank you Sir” Sarissa smiled warmly.
Lt Sayvek was very busy studying the science data side of the slipstream. Theoretical data and actual data was a different story as he was learning. Traversing space at 15,000 light years a hop could make anyone jumpy but it seemed especially so for Sayvek all of a sudden. As he looked around the Bridge and it was swaying."
But before Sayvek could say anything the Captain looked over to the opposite side of the Bridge "What the bloody hell.....Commander look over there....are you seeing what I'm seeing" O'Connell inquired with much concern.
Looking in the same direction "Crap! That can't be good" Devroe replied wondering what was causing the swaying.
"Helm drop us out of slipstream....then all stop" came the order before tapping his comm "Lieutenant D'Nall we seem to have some issues with the QSD system."
"I just noticed the same thing; on it Captain I'll report back shortly" D'Nall replied already moving towards the QSD controls.
"Dropping out of slipstream.....coming to a full stop momentarily Sir" the Ensign stated knowing it would take several minutes to initiate a full stop without stressing the Ship.
"Lieutenant Sayvek report" the Captain ordered.
Sarissa was just as concerned as everyone else, they couldn’t have the ship coming apart at the seams when using the QSD.
" Captsin I have had numerous reactions as well. The
Slipstream compresses space-time in a nonlinear fashion. That could cause:
Time perception issues (e.g., seconds feel like hours or vice versa)
Circadian rhythm disruption, possibly worse than jet lag
Potential aging discrepancies if the time field isn’t perfectly synchronized (think: minor time dilation effects
Slipstream involves navigating a narrowly confined quantum corridor:
If the inertial dampeners fail to adapt to micro-fluctuations in the stream, internal organs could feel “drag” or dislocation pressure.
A misalignment in phase harmonics could result in a transient partial desynchronization—like briefly existing slightly out of phase with the ship’s reality. Symptoms? Nausea, disorientation, maybe even hallucinations.
Listening intently to what Sayvek was explaining didn't sound good on any level "Thank you Lieutenant for your expertise and insight" the Captain replied before tapping his comm "Mr. D'Nall have you had any luck in finding the problem yet and can we still go to warp."
"Yes Captain and going to warp is fine" then he paused a moment "Sir you may want to come and take a look at this; a visual would be easier to explain what occurred" D'Nall replied.
This was the last thing O'Connell wanted to hear right now "Commander I'm going to Engineering.....you have the Conn" then he lowered his voice "Perhaps a raincheck on dinner."
"No problem; go see what the Lieutenant has to say and I'll run things up here" Commander Devroe replied. O'Connell rose from his seat and entered the Lift "Deck 2."
"Helm take us to warp factor six and remain on the same heading for now" the Commander ordered hoping the issues was nothing serious.
"Aye Ma'am......going to warp six now....current heading" was the response.
