Station: A Promise Re-offered/Yui Arrives
Posted on Sat Sep 6th, 2025 @ 5:47pm by Captain Rogue "Ro" Kudo {Meji Master} {Flt. Cpt.} & Captain Sean Loewen {Meji} & Lieutenant Lenore (Len) Loewen {Meji}
Mission:
The Inner Flame
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: current/somewhere in between
ON:
As promised, Captain Ro Kudo strode aboard the USS Capernum by way of gangway. Her husband Ken had had a duty watch last night so she had gotten up early, bathed, and then prepared for her day beginning with a promise she had made. A personal promise between herself and Len Holbrook and Sean Loewen. Capernum would be in port long enough to get the repairs done for the affected decks, and then be out on a standard patrol run the moment they were ready. So, getting this promise fulfilled was important to Ro. Entering Sickbay, Ro stepped within the medical bay about a meter and stopped as she scanned the room with her eyes to locate her friend, Dr. Holbrook.
Len was in her office when she heard the door to Sickbay open and close. She stood up from her desk and walked out of her office. She noticed Ro and gave her a smile, "Good morning."
Ro gave a wide smile and stepped up to Len, giving her a quick, friendly hug. "Good morning." She had to adjust her stance to do so since her belly was so pronounced now. "Good to see you. So, to let you know, Ken and I tied the knot last night in a private ceremony. We had a lot to discuss and spent our evening as man and wife dealing with the particulars of how we want our life to go." She patted her belly. "OUR life." She said. "But, I did promise to wed you two so, I am here to let you know I will keep that promise for when you're ready."
"Congratulations Captain Kudo. I'm ready right know. We will have to ask Sean." Len said with a grin.
"I took the liberty of sending the boys a message, they should get here shortly," Ro informed her, still smiling. It seemed it was all she could do these days. Feeling Yui moving around quite a bit, Ro placed her hand along the left side of her belly. "Mmm," she gave a wince, not from pain just some discomfort. "She's rather lively today."
"Well that is normal for this stage of gestation." Len said, her hand on her abdomen, which has a slight bump already.
Both Ken and Sean walked in, having met in the corridor and walking as a pair. Seeing their women they broke into smiles, each going over nearest to their loves. Sean spoke first. "Ladies. You rang, Mrs. Kudo?"
"Yeah, babe, what's up," Ken asked. He kind of knew where this may be headed but just in case he was wrong he played it cool.
"Remember the promise I made to Sean and Len?" Ro asked, getting nods. "Well, we're now married so, I did tell them I would marry them once that was done."
"You did, indeed." Sean smiled, looking at Len to gauge her response.
Len looked into his eyes and gave a nod. "I'm ready if you are."
Loewen smiled and gave Len the one wink he only reserved for her. "I was ready months ago, love. Right here, or elsewhere?"
"Here is fine." Len said before turning towards Ro.
The rest of the Sickbay staff had stopped what they were doing to watch, honored to be a witness to it.
Ro began speaking. "Since the days of wooden ships it has been an honor and privilege for captains to marry passengers and crew to the ones they love. We are here to join Captain Sean Loewen and Doctor Lenore Holbrook in honored matrimony. Sean, do you take this woman to be your wife, to have and to hold, to protect and defend, to share a life with forevermore?"
"I do," Sean said without missing a beat.
"Lenore, do you take this man to be your husband, to have and to hold, to protect and defend, and to share a life with forevermore?"
"I do," Len said.
"With that pronouncement you are to forsake all others, to love one another as you would love yourself, for you are now one. Two bodies but one flesh and one mind, with you now hers, and you now his. If that is your desire then I ask you to turn towards one another and take each other's hands." Ro said. They both did so. "If there any words you wish to share, now is the time."
"You have made my life brighter since I met you. I love you and will spend the rest of my life with you." She said with a large smile on her face.
Loewen smiled and said his part. "Len, I used to call you lucky because you were my good luck charm. Now, I think of you as destiny, since you have become my destiny. I will love you for the rest of my days, and no other." They both turned their heads to look at Ro.
"With your oaths to each other spoken," Ro said with a big smile. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride as I stand as a witness to Mr. and Mrs. Loewen." She applauded next to her husband, who was also applauding, along with the Sickbay staff present.
Sean embraced Len and kissed her deeply.
Len leaned into the kiss for a moment before leaning back. She turns in his embrace, his arms now over her abdomen and their daughter.
Giving a light squeeze to Len, Sean kissed the side of her neck.
Ken and Ro came in and gave them hugs, and then the Sickbay staff did so one at a time so as not to crowd the newlyweds. Ro could not help herself. "Time for some paperwork, you two." She giggled. "You know how Starfleet is about keeping their records straight. The nice thing, the internal sensors logged the entire ceremony so it is technically on record."
Len laughs, "There is always paperwork to do. We can do it in my office if you'd like."
"Of course," Ken said, letting the Loewens go first while he and Ro followed.
Sean walked with Len and entered the office.
Ro got to the door with Ken. "All I need do is put my mark on performing the ceremony, and witness. Ken a witness. Not much really. You shoulda seen mine, it took a minute," she giggled.
Len grabbed one of the PADDs on her desk and pulled up the paperwork that's required for getting married and changing names.
Sean was looking over her shoulder, pointing casually a few times to make sure they got all the lines covered for the name change and status. Len handed it to him and he put his marks, then off to Ken and Ro, who both added their marks. The PADD was handed back.
RO gave them each another hug and then stepped back towards the office door. "It is now official across the board. Congrats, you two." Yui began to move again, as if adjusting completely within Ro. Using Control, Ro remained completely stoic to the happenings within her body, not wanting to alarm anyone without reason. She spun and quickly darted back out to Sickbay, leaning on one hand against a biobed, breathing heavily. Ken was at her side and held her other arm. "What is it?"
Ro looked into her husband's eyes, giving a halfhearted grin. "I think Yui is coming. I feel her turning upside down, Ken. Looks like she grew faster than we anticipated." She winced. "After all, not many augments are born naturally so not...a lot...of data."
Ken scooped her up and set her on the biobed while three nurses came in to help. "Step back, please, Lieutenant." One of the nurses said even as she took up a pair of medical scissors with blunted tips on the end. Ken moved out of the way as the nurse grabbed Ro's waistband and pulled it out to get the scissors under it. She chopped once through the band and then with expert skill she ran the open scissors all the way down Ro's left leg to the hem for the foot, effectively skinning that leg in one smooth gesture. As she handed the scissors to a nurse on the other side of the bed there was a sudden rush of water from Ro's body. "Water's broke," the nurse stated in a professional tone, even though all could see it too. They began to get Ro's clothing off from the waist down as they set up the stirrups.
Len comes out of her office and goes over to Ro. "Seems like Yui wants to come now. I'll be here to help, you have got this Ro."
"Okay. Not my first rodeo...but...been a while." The contractions were coming quicker and quicker, with Ken taking her hand. "Don't break it, Ro, but squeeze my hand if you need it." Hearing that Ro adjusted her hand to grip his forearm since fingers tended to twist and break easier. Using the Force Ro got her body under control, waiting for Doctor Holbrook to give her the go-ahead that she was ready.
Loewen, hearing the first thing Ro said, had chuckled. "A rodeo is how this happened, Captain Kudo." He got a glare, but there was mirth in the eyes.
"Push when you feel the need to." Len said as she gets ready to catch Yui when she comes out.
Ro nodded a few times. "Here we go." Just as a contraction began to end Ro pushed, feeling Yui slide a little more south, and with telekinesis she was helping her daughter to wiggle her way out, making sure her arms stayed tucked and not cause a jam-up. She was head first so it was not a breach birth which was a good sign. Then, after a few good pushes she felt the pressure of Yui's head making its way out of the birth canal and into open air.
Len placed her hand on Yui's head and nodded to Ro. "The head is out, you still have the shoulders to go. You have got this." She said encouraging Ro.
Feeling Yui twisting and turning, and trusting what her body was telling her, Ro waited until Yui turned just right for the shoulders. Not by her own knowledge of wanting out, but as a matter of biology. No one wanted to be squeezed to death. As soon as Yui's shoulders were in the right position Ro gave a solid push and felt Yui's body slide forward smoothly. She could see the nurses leaning in over Len's shoulders to do what was needed to clear Yui's mouth and nose of any flotsam. But, with that final push, Ro felt her newborn leave her body completely. She relaxed her grip on Ken's arm and patted it. "Umbilical."
"Oh, right." Ken said, stepping in next to a nurse if they offered him the chance to sever the umbilical cord to allow his daughter to be totally free of mom's body.
Len has Yui in her hand and one of the nurses clamps the umbilical cord and hands a pair of scissors to Ken. "You can go ahead and cut the cord."
For a moment Ken thought about doing it old school, but then he might gross out the nurses, so he took the scissors and cut the cord, smiling at the thought of holding his daughter as soon as they got her clean and swaddled in a blanket.
A nurse looked to Len. "Doctor Holbrook, do you want us to clean her and see to the afterbirth when it expels?"
Len nods. "Yes, go ahead, and it Dr. Loewen now." She hand Yui to a nurse and goes to the sinks to wash her hands. Once done she goes back over to Ro. "You did a good job, Mama."
Len had stood up from the stool she had been on, replaced by a nurse, while another nurse took Yui to clean her up. A much quicker and thorough way of cleaning the baby in the modern times. There was a slap sound as flesh met flesh, and then Yui's angry cry came out at being popped on the fanny to test her airways. The nurse quickly began to soother the spot and got Yui wrapped up in a blanket from the warmer.
Ro had looked at Len as she had spoken, her own body now relaxed as she waited to expel any afterbirth material, which was coming along quickly. "Thanks. That went far easier than the twins." She clasped Len's hand. "Two new lives started today, I couldn't ask for a better way to spend my time. Congratulations, sister. I'm so happy for you and Sean."
"Thank you. I'm happy for Ken, Yui and you. In a few months I'll be here delivering our daughter." Len said.
"If Capernum is in port, I'll be here, too." Ro reassured her. "Our family is growing, Len." Mrs. Kudo could do nothing but smile even as the nurse between her legs spoke up. "One more good push, Captain Kudo. The medical scanner shows that this will be the last of it." Ro pushed and the material was expelled into the medical refuse replicator collector. There was nothing biological left and the device remained clean and re-useable. "We'll get you cleaned up, Captain, and then provide you a robe and bottoms to catch any leakage."
Ro thanked the nurse. "You and Doctor Williams, both, have excellent staff, Len. Glad I wasn't on the Promenade," Ro giggled.
Len nodded. " That would have been bad. I'm gonna let you rest. I'll be in my office." She said looking at Sean and then went to her office.
Sean gave both Ro and Ken a handshake and followed his wife since he felt that was where he needed to be. Plus, it gave the other two time with their newborn. Len was a meter ahead and entered her office, with Sean quick-stepping forward to slip through the door before it closed. As he got inside he grabbed Len around the waist from behind, gently pulling her against him and kissing her neck with his hands on their own child within her. "I am the happiest man in the sector right now, Len. Thank you for marrying a bum like me." He chuckled.
Len laughed, "You are not a bum dear, you are my flyboy." She said as she put her hands over his.
Now in a more private setting, Sean spun Len around and embraced her in a deeper kiss than they had given during the ceremony. His arms went down around her waist and held her against him as they broke away from the kiss. He laughed. "Flyboy? I would love to see Borelli's face if I told him to take the chair while I pilot for a while." Another laugh. "Maybe I'll do that just to muck with Sheyla, too."
"Well you are the Captain, so you could do that if you wanted. Do you have any ideas on girl names?" Len asked.
"Not yet." Sean admitted. "I mean, we could go with Seanna," he said with a laugh, raising his eyebrows to show he was not being completely serious. "Just a joke, hon. Beyond that let me think on it a bit more. We'll see what we come up with." They continued to talk for a time before Loewen needed to head to the Bridge and get the ship ready for the Quantum Slipstream Drive upgrade.
