The Big Move
Posted on Wed Mar 4th, 2026 @ 2:13pm by Commodore Sureth & Captain Terry Kingston & Lieutenant JG Nic Covenant & Commander Angel Devroe & Commander David Wallace & Lieutenant Commander Isabelle Veran-Dallas
Mission:
STELLAR NURSERY
Location: Starbase M-69/Lagoon Nebula Aurelius
Timeline: Concurrent
On
The station had been moved before but never on the scale for this new advanced station. Science and engineering worked very hard to set up the dynamics of moving the new station over Aurelius.
Isabelle was enjoying a change to her usual Counselling duties, spending time in Ops at the behest of her father. Having started studies for a bridge officers test, she was relishing the change although her Counselling duties would still be important.
Commander Devroe entered Ops a little nervous being her first day in her new position when she saw a familiar face. Walking over "Good morning Lieutenant Veran-Dallas" she stated wanting to get the name right "I'm a little surprised to see you here in Ops; not that's a bad thing" as she smiled.
“Good morning Commander” Isabelle smiled. “I’m studying for the bridge Officer’s test at the behest of my father so I thought I’d get a little experience time in. I’m currently on reduced hours for maternity leave, so I won’t be here for a full shift.”
Angel smiled "That certainly is an ambitious goal; please let me know if I can be of assistance" she replied then paused a moment "So are you going to remain as Chief Counselor as well?"
“Definitely” Isabelle nodded. “Being a Counsellor is what is most important to me besides my family.”
Sureth entered and immediately walked over to the central viewer.
" As most of you know we are prepping the station for the big move into the Lagoon Nebula. Lieutenant Commander O'Neil and Captain Kingston are on Aurelius now finishing up the last of the details. There is however a snag of sorts. 27 years ago Starfleet launched a secret ship loaded with top secret communications equipment and planned to deploy a subspace relay. That ship went missing and recently was discovered . 11 of the 12 person crew survived and are not being very cooperative with Captain Kingston or O'Neil. We plan to make our move but we will have to deal with them as we proceed. Are there any question?" Sureth asked.
Thinking for a moment "Commodore, about how long will the journey take and will the new Base be able to withstand the atmosphere inside the nebula" Devroe inquired thinking of everyone's safety as she was accustomed to doing.
" Captain Kingston assures me it will. The technology he has used has a regeneration process that was approved by the Starfleet Corp of Engineers. I am told it is of anti-Borg development from a species in the Gamma Quadrant." Sureth replied.
"Apologies Commodore, but as your First Officer the safety of this Base, the Crew, and the civilians is my top priority" then Angel paused "I realize this isn't a Ship but I believe the basics are the same" she stated with her usual smile.
" Understood Commander. For those who may not know Captain Shauna Vehn is no longer with us. Commander Angel Devroe is our new First Officer. While the Lagoon Nebula is very active our planet Aurelius has a stable orbit and atmosphere for life and is class L. A planetary colony is planned real soon. Commander Devroe please follow up with Commander Wallace and see how soon our two tug boats will be. " Sureth replied.
"As you wish Commodore" Angel replied then turned to walk OPs to see how everyone was doing along with getting a feel for the place. Walking over to another Commander "Hi, I'm Commander Devore the new XO.....you must be Commander Wallace I assume. The Commodore would like to know when the tugs will be arriving so we can get underway with moving the Base" she inquired with a smile.
David looked up from a quartet of displays, his eyes were red from a lack of sleep and an obvious binge on anything caffeinated "As the Corps of Engineers said on a cold day in hell...no tugs, no heavy tugs, not enough ships that meet the minimum safe limits for a minimum of six days..." David said as he picked up a coffee "Most of the ships in the sector are either helping with the super volcanic eruption in the Deveron sector or on other missions." David said as he slid a pad across the table "All four heavy tugs are part of the DS sixteen construction, which leaves us with nothing for six days at which point Starfleet operations might be able to spare...." flipping though notes "The VanZandt and maybe two other ships and before you ask I've even asked for reserve ships with a strong and firm No from Operations, so it's six days and ships the might be able to do the job or two months for the right ships." David said followed by downing the drink "With a drastic increase with the Reman attacks, natural disasters and two major construction projects on the go everything is spread very thin including my patience."
Hearing the Commander's explanation Angel replied "I'll take the six days" then she paused "As much as the Commodore wants M-69 settled in it's new location there are some things we have no control over and unfortunately this is one of them" as she grinned "I'll let the Commodore know what progress you've made but IF, and I know it's a big if, you can speed things up please do so.....if not we'll have to go with the flow. Thank you Commander for your hard work on this and I'll be sure to pass it along" Devroe started to turn then turned back "Commander get some sleep at your first opportunity and relax, this will all work out.....that's an order" as she smiled before finishing her rounds in OPs.
“I’ll second that” Isabelle nodded towards Wallace. “Your mental health will suffer if you don’t get enough sleep. As Chief Counsellor I want you to get some rest Commander.”
Ignoring the counselor "You'll have one additional wrinkle, I won't be here myself along with the Cascade, when the VanZandt arrives I'll be taking their two geologists and volcanologist to the Deveron sector to help in forecasting the eruption patterns and to study the eruption itself when it takes place."
[ This Is Captain Kingston . All systems are optimal for the move. The communications system is working at peak performance and Lieutenant Commander O'Neil and I will be returning as soon as possible to help with the move.] Kingston replied via screen.
"I'm still working on personnel transportation, the reserve fleet has two Excalibur class ships that can be here in three days, I've also inquired about a Wallenberg or Samson class to no reply yet." David said acting as if he was looking at notes "Captain LeVay and and the VanZandt are coordinating with the Corps of Engineers fine tuning move plan since no one has moved a starbase into a nebula in the last century."
Sureth raised an eyebrow. " Nobody said it wouldn't be difficult. Thank you Commander Wallace. We await Captain LeVays arrival. Is there any other new business Commander Devroe?" Sureth asked.
"The only other thing Commander Wallace will be leaving with the Cascade once the VanZandt arrives for a scientific mission; I wasn't sure if you heard the Commander so I wanted to mention it Commodore" Devroe replied trying to cover all the bases.
" Yes I am aware of his exterior mission. Lieutenant Commander Dallas you will be acting 2nd officer while Mr Wallace is away." Sureth replied.
"Understood Sir" Devroe answered with a smile.
" No matter the hour of the day I want to get this station moved. Is there any other issues to discuss? Sureth added.
"As you wish Commodore and currently there no other issues to my knowledge" Devroe responded with a smile.
David just quietly scanned the room with his eyes hoping he could leave soon, he wanted to wrap up any loose ends before he left.
" Commander Wallace please have Captain LeVay report to me when his ship arrives. The sooner we get to our new location the better." Sureth added.
Without looking at his notes David spoke "The VanZandt will arrive in thirty hours and we should know about the other ship before then, I have a subspace conference with SECOPS in thirty minutes on that."
Sureth nodded then looked to the others.
" With that let us resume our duties. We have 2 days basically until we make the big move."
Hearing the Commodore, Devroe resumed walking Ops checking with the different Stations and introducing herself as she went along.
