Settling In

It has barely been 48 hours since I arrived on Starbase M-69, and I have already made a couple of friends and had my first client. A young woman who experienced the darker side of society when she was robbed and assaulted on the promenade.

Despite how advanced society has become, crime and violence in modern society are shaped by complex social factors, manifesting through shifting community impacts and patterns.

I was able to help her get on the right track to dealing with her experience, but this is just the first few steps. I will be there for her as she continues forward.

Countless research studies have been carried out over the centuries, trying to explain and understand why people continue to be cruel, vindictive, and violent. Yet today, we don't seem any closer to a true understanding or an answer. My client asked, "How could someone be so cruel?"

I don't know, but I want to understand.
