Capernaum: Back in the Saddle

Posted on Fri Jul 10th, 2026 @ 9:47pm by Captain Sean Loewen {Meji} & Lieutenant Ken Kudo {Meji} & Lieutenant T'Pri

Mission: SHAKE DOWN IN A NEBULA
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

ON:

The USS CAPERNAUM plowed through space at nearly a crawl as she was moving along at slower than one-quarter impulse. In no hurry to patrol and gather sensor data around the lagoon and to see to any outlying issues that may pop up, and to also keep an eye out for approaching transports delivering parts and supplies to M-69 and Aurelia, the cruiser was merely doing what she was designed to do. Further Starfleet and Federation knowledge. Captain Sean Loewen arrived on the Bridge as he stepped out of the port turbolift, wearing the coverall style, form-fitting uniform (TNG Season 4). Around his waist was the Meji belt for holding his lightsaber on his waist, and the holsters for both his personal PADD and a tricorder. "Good morning, everyone," he said, stepping down into the lower Bridge, then ascending the dais with the captain's chair. Even as he sat down and crossed his legs at the thigh he received reciprocal greetings in return.

Fleet Captain Kudo had been returned to M-69, handing command back to Sean as she did so. Ashley Celine Loewen, his daughter, had been born three weeks ago, now, and after the first two weeks with her, felt he could return to command. He had fully appreciated Ro Kudo taking the reins so that he could get to know his newborn, and she could get to know him in her first couple of weeks out of the womb. Upon his return to the center seat, Loewen had seen that both Ken Kudo and T'Pri were up for promotion, so his first act as Commanding Officer was approving them both. Captain Kudo had left that to him since they were his officers originally. So, Lieutenants Kudo and T'Pri no longer wore the pips of JG's. They now wore the dual gold pips of LT.

After checking the command PADD and ship's shift logs and signing off on them, Sean let the device pay back on his thigh as he slowly turned his chair towards the starboard side of the Bridge so it was easier to look over at T'Pri without having to look over hsi shoulder. "Anything worth mentioning, Lt. T'Pri?"

T'Pri, ever the not-so-common Vulcan, turned her own chair slightly to look at her CO. "Captain, if there were something worth mentioning I assure you I would have done so by now."

Loewen gave a light chuckle. "Exactly the answer I expected, Miss T'Pri. Carry on." Still wearing a smirk, Captain Loewen spun his chair back to face the front, albeit, slowly and dramatically. T'Pri was one of his most valued officers because she was uniquely herself. Logical and intelligent as with all Vulcans, but had the spice within herself that allowed for a bit of interplay between herself and her shipmates. Usually subtle, but there when she felt she needed to respond in kind, yet make it sound as logical as possible. He could always see it in her eyes when she was being 'casual', as it were. He switched his focus to another officer. "Mister Kudo, how's the family? Heard from Yui lately? I know she's been out of touch for months now travelling around with our favorite Q, Qeritas."

Ken gave a grin, which showed a positive expression. "I have, Captain. Thank you for asking. Seems she is being sent to M-69 by the Federation Science Bureau. Since she flat refuses to join Starfleet for her own reasons, she will be assigned as a civilian with the Science department. Taking from her mentor, Miss T'Pri, Yui is trying to decide to go for diplomacy or medical as her Secondary."

T'Pri added from over Sean's right shoulder. "My diplomatic credentials greatly interested the young woman. She has the right temperament and self control for such a posting. Her medical education has had her attaining the knowledge level of a Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant, as she has written several papers on the subjects of chemistry, biology, and anatomy for several species, including her own."

When T'Pri finished her portion, Ken continued after nodding toward the Vulcan. "Yui's scientific disciplines are varied, with no particular favorite. And, why she is listed as a scientist and has yet to attain anything near a doctorate. Not that she isn't trying for such, but she knows she still has much to learn."

Loewen gave a grin. "The wise person knows that they must always seek knowledge. Good for her. Would you like us to head to 69 for a bit of shore leave then, Ken?"

"I would never ask for such a thing, Sir. But, it would be appreciated. The wife and daughter home at the same time, and all."

Sean gave a big smile. "Consider it done. Helm, set course for M-69 and engage when ready."

The helm officer did so, the ship changing course and then jumping to light speed.

OFF:

OOC: I am still thinning out Yui's bio, mainly the history portion for her anatomy and such. Almost done with that as she is now Quazi (Catfolk).
