USS. Spartan - New Command

OOC: This post will give some background to the character.

[ USS Dakota ]

Captain D’Lara Chase was sitting at the desk in her Ready Room when her terminal sounded. Activating the device she saw a familiar face “Admiral Stone what do I owe the pleasure” she inquired with a smile.

“Captain Chase always a pleasure. I’ll get right to the point…..please set a course for the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars…..we have a new type of Ship known as the Orion Class and I would like you to take command effective immediately…..it’s time you had your own Ship and not being forced into the position because of a freak accident” Stone explained.

“This certainly is a surprise Admiral” as D’Lara paused a moment thinking “If I may ask who will be taking over the Dakota” she inquired a little concerned for her Crew she’d be leaving behind.

“I’ve already spoken to your First Officer and he has agreed to take command of the Dakota. I’ll meet you at the Ship Yards and fill you in on all the details when you arrive” the Admiral stated with a smile.

“Understood Admiral so I’ll be seeing you soon” D’Lara responded returning the smile.

~Bridge~

Captain Chase walked out onto Command and sat in the center seat before turning to her First Officer with a smirk “Commander I understand congratulations are in order….or should I say Captain.

“Thank you Captain it’ll be an honor to take command of the Dakota” as he paused a moment “Just so you know the Admiral asked me not to say anything until he had a chance to talk to you first…..and congrats to you as well Captain” the XO responded with a smile.

“Helm set a course for Utopia Planitia, Mars… best speed” came the order as D’Lara sat back and would enjoy her last trip on this ship.

Materializing in the intake area of the main building D’Lara felt a mixed bag of emotions. She was excited about being given command of a new class Starship but was also a little sadden leaving the Dakota. It had been a tough year for the Crew with the untimely demise of their Captain, and her taking command, but somehow they had managed getting through the time rather well as a whole.

As promised Admiral Stone was waiting for her as she walked up to him with hand extended “Admiral nice to see you in person for a change” she commented with a smile.

Shaking hands “You as well Captain, it’s not often I get to see my people face to face” Stone responded returning the smile “Follow me to the observation area and I’ll show you your new command” as the two Officers walked off.

Arriving at their destination Stone turned in front of the viewing window “Captain Chase there is your new command….the USS Spartan, registry NCC-74217…..so what’s your first impressions?”

Looking at the new sleek ship D’Lara was in awe “She’s a real beauty Sir but not quite as large as I would have imagined.”

Stone chuckled “Don’t let the size deceive you Captain…she’s loaded for bear as they say. The Spartan is 240 meters long, 223meters wide including nacelles, and 33.6 meters high supporting seven decks and a crew compliment of sixty.” he explained “Ready to go aboard?”

“Lead the way Admiral” Chase replied eager to see the inside.

[ USS Spartan ]

Entering the Ship they walked to the nearest Lift with Stone gesturing with his hand for D’Lara to enter first “Deck 1 Bridge” came the request. Moments later the doors swooshed open with her entering first followed by Stone.

Looking around the light brown and navy blue Bridge “This is certainly different to what I’m used to” she commented seeing everything all new and shiny.

“Yes, it’s a new design which should help make commanding much easier…..it’s setup more like a large cockpit style instead of the circular/oval that most ships employ. At the center on a slightly raised platform you have chairs for the Captain and XO with an Auxiliary Station in front of the view screen for anyone including Command. Just behind Command left is Helm/Navigation, to the right is Operations. On the port side are Science and Communications; also each command chair have builtin comms on the armrest. Then on the starboard side is Engineering, which can also double as an Auxiliary if need be and lastly is the Tactical Station close to the Captain. Your Bridge Crew will consist of eight Officers plus any extra you deem necessary of course. Impressions?”

“Well it looks very well thought out and like you stated earlier should make commanding much easier with very few wasted steps if any” as D’Lara paused a moment “I think I’m really going to like this new setup style and if the rest of the Ship is this well thought out being Captain should be a delight.”

“Good, I was hoping you’d be impressed. So let me take you on a quick tour of the rest of the Spartan” the Admiral responded as the Officers spent the next couple of hours walking through the Ship.

When the tour was completed Stone inquired “So Captain are you still impressed with this Ship.”

With a smile “Very much so….we have everything we need aboard without the redundancies of departments and literally no wasted space. Also from what I can gather the Spartan seems to be well armed as well” Captain Chase stated.

“Yes for the size she’s very well armed. I’ve personally have interviewed most of your Crew so you should have an excellent staff with most of your Senior Officers being woman….wasn’t intentional it just worked out that way” he explained.

“No problem Admiral and I look forward to serving with each and every member of my Crew.”

“Excellent. I’ve already transferred the command codes to you so you’re officially Captain of the Spartan. Your Crew will be arriving throughout the rest of today. Take the next three days getting everyone settled and have whatever meeting you deem useful then take her out for a shakedown cruise for a week to get everyone used to the technology, each other, and getting everyone into a routine. Let me know how it went when you return and I’ll be giving you your first mission” Stone explained.

“As you wish Admiral and thank you Sir for this opportunity…..I won’t let you down” D’Lara stated with conviction.

“I’m very confident you’ll do a fine job or I wouldn’t have picked you for this assignment. I should be going…..good luck Captain D’Lara Chase” as Stone turned and left the ship.

Taking a deep breathe D’Lara walked around the Bridge looking each Station over carefully before sitting in the big chair “You got this” she thought until her thoughts were interrupted “Captain good morning, I’m your new First Officer.”

Standing then turning “Good morning Commander and welcome to the Spartan” and so it began with the Crew arriving throughout the rest of the day….all sixty souls.
