Lt Sabbath was new to the station and had yet to finish up his transfer from his previous posting. Signing in he awaited his turn to see a Counselor.

The doors of Lireh's office slide open. She peers out, looking towards the comfortable waiting area when she saw a young Lieutenant.

"Lieutenant Sabbath?" She asked, smiling towards his direction.

Being Vulcan Sabbath did not smile but he did nod and followed the counselor into her office.

" I apologize for being late in reporting for this visit. My position in science prevented me from following protocol. Non the less I am here now." Sabbath explained.

"Not a problem, Lieutenant. Please take a seat and tell me how I can be of help." Lireh replied.

" I require a standard mental evaluation which will clear me for active duty. Per Lieutenant Commander Croesus exact orders." Sabbath replied.

"Of course. We can go through the evaluation preamble first. There are four tests which will assess your mental state. Based on the results on the four tests and overall assessment can be made. At the end of the evaluation, if you wish to provide any feedback on the process, it would be much appreciated. "

" Of course, Counsellor. Let us begin." Sabbath replied.

" Very well." Lireh picked up a PADD from her desk and passed it to the young Lieutenant.

" There is no time limit on this first evaluation test. Please read the instructions carefully before tapping start. Basically, you will be presented with different images, and you are asked to write what it is you see. This is a very old and long-standing psychological analysis called a Rorschach test. Any questions? "

" No Counselor," Sabbath replied as he began the test.

Lireh sat watching as he started the test. She wasn't expecting any reactions from the images, with the lieutenant being Vulcan, but sometimes the universe can surprise us.

" Fascinating. I had not considered the emotional state of the image," he said, referring to the shape of a human pig.

" Indeed. It's a centuries-old test, and yet it still provides an interesting insight into the emotional state of imagery. We don't all see the same thing in the images created by the ink."

" Yours is an interesting field, Counsellor. I study ancient civilisations, and you study alien psychology. I am finished with this test. Is knowing the emotional feelings of a pig a make-or-break point to whether or not I pass?" Sabbath asked.

"No. When this test was created, the mere idea of other beings on distant worlds was purely science fiction, and it certainly wasn't designed for the Vulcan mind. I know it's an odd and emotionally loaded question for you, but are you doing ok? Is there anything that's causing you uncertainty in your logic? "

" I am struggling with my previous posting. I left due to indulging in an emotional response to how the ship was being run." Sabbath replied.

"I see. Are you happy to talk about it?" Lireh asked.

" I thought we were talking about it," Sabbath responded. " The ship's CO allowed her XO and Chief Engineer to run the ship; she was what Cadets refer to as a Captain Dunsel. I questioned this practice and forfeited my commission rather than continuing to serve there. I suppose I have not totally gotten over this."

"Oh. It's not really my place to judge how a ship is run, but sometimes it's best to remove yourself from an environment that negatively affects your ability to work effectively."

" Perhaps I opened up too much. Thank you for indulging me."

" It's completely fine. Whatever is said in these meetings is strictly confidential. Besides, I am here to help if I can." Lireh added.

" You are a good listener Counselor. I was told Sovan would see me but you have filled in adequately. " Sabbath replied.

" Thank you. I appreciate that. Is there anything else I can do for you? I feel you are mentally fit for duty. "

Sabbath looked again at yhe image of the smiling pig. He did not smile but did feel relieved to have that off his chest.

"Thank you counselor." Sabbath answered as he stood to leave.
