Mission:
THE KINGDOMS COME AND GO
Location: Earth
Timeline: Current
ON:
THEN:
The Meji Order, also known as the Order of the Meji, and the New Meji Order under Meji Master Ro Green, is a noble monastic and nontheistic religious order united in their devotion to the light side of the Force. They serve as mediators, warriors, and with teaching and exploratory efforts. The Meji Knights—noted for their lightsabers and natural ability to harness the powers of the Force—stand as the guardians of peace and justice in the United Federation of Planets. The Order was originally established by Ro Green, the only Meji Master at this time. She wanted to establish a Meji Grand Temple on Earth, serving as the hub of all Meji activity in the galaxy. The Temple was also a training school for younglings and apprentices, who learned the ways of the Force under the supervision of Meji Masters, twelve of whom will be elected to serve on the Meji High Council—the Order's highest governing authority. The High Council's staff officers are the Grand Master, who functions as the leader of the Order and is a title reserved for the wisest Meji Master, and the Master of the Order, who serves as the Council's appointed leader. The Meji Code governs the Order's way of life; therefore, every Meji is duty-bound to observe and uphold the Code or else risk expulsion from the Order.
Over the next few decades of the Federation, the Meji Order vowed allegiance to the Federation Council as the galaxy is beset by political instability and social unrest which, in turn, could create a secessionist crisis that could ultimately result in the formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Lacking the sufficient manpower needed to protect the galaxy, the Meji will become commanders and generals in the newly-formed Grand Military of the Federation. Though the Meji fight to preserve the Federation, the government they serve was secretly taken over by the corrupt who, as Councilors from various worlds, rose to power in the Council and became voices to be heard.
The Meji Starfleet Integration Act formalized this and officially made the Meji Order a part of Starfleet, except on their terms when they could partake of such actions. The Meji were not of a single mind regarding participation in Starfleet. Some Meji felt they have lost something by becoming the Federation's warriors, but, on the other hand, other Meji believed that returning to monasticism and contemplation would mean ignoring the suffering going on in the galaxy. Ro Green believes that the Meji should strive to serve as an example by leading the Federation's soldiers on the battlefield, although she is nonetheless affected by the loss of Meji lives in service to Starfleet. Green is troubled by the prospect of more Meji dying as a result of the Order's decision to fight in any Federation conflict, but Taavis counseled her colleague to set aside her doubts and trust in the Force, acknowledging Green for her wisdom and capable leadership.
All of what they had envisioned, and presented to the Federation Council, was accepted. It had taken over a week to streamline the final draft, and once done, it was accepted. During the many nights of negotiating with the Council, Green had give Taavis her first lightsaber, a bald that was a vibrant emerald green to match her copper-based blood. Nightly, both Master and Apprentice would practice saber techniques, to get Taavis to a better level of combat, and to bring their relationship closer as both Master-Apprentice but, also as lovers. The Meji would become a part of Starfleet, for all those who chose to serve, and special dispensation would be given for them to where a badge, or patch, denoting their oath as Meji even as they served as Starfleet personnel. All was now official.
NOW:
Captain Ro Green was walking along casually, visiting with Admiral Aaron Stone, discussing whatever came to mind, from the mundane to topics of importance. Aaron was her dad outside of uniforms and propriety, and all too often he bent over backwards to provide her with what he thought she needed in her life. As any good father should. They walked along, a wall of transparisteel windows coming up on their left, with Green on his left. He began to speak more, to keep her eyes on him for the most part, and away from the windows. "Ro, tell me, please. What is your ultimate goal in life? If you were to break it down to just one thing that you could say you accomplished, what would it be?"
"Establishing the Meji Order and seeing it flourish as an ally to the altruistic Federation government that we all have come to love. Whatever position I have to serve to see that happen, I am okay with." Green answered. They had stopped, her back to the windows as she addressed her dad, and the Admiral that he was.
Stone gave her a grin. "You're my daughter, no less so had you come from my genetics, or not. I love you and, too often, have to come to your rescue when things go sideways. I owe the Fleet Admiral quite a few favors due to my want to aid my daughter."
Green opened her mouth to respond, could not find the right words, so her mouth closed.
"Exactly," Stone said with a chuckle. "You served for over a decade as an XO. Sure, being a Fleet Captain is all good but, I know you want more. Your command of Nazgul, even if for but a minute, was the right step. Now, as a Fleet Captain, you have control of an entire sector's Starfleet assets in regards to ships. Quite the position, Captain Green."
"It serves a purpose I am in agreement with, Sir." Ro responded, wanting to respect her father's position, not just his accolade as her dad. "Nazgul had had Bjorgo as Captain before me, so it was a rough transition for myself and the crew."
"Understandable," Stone replied. "Would you, Captain, be willing to try again?"
Green's face scrunched up in a look of confusion before her eyes went to his. "I am always ready to try new things, Admiral. Mister Loewen is currently the CO of Nazgul, even if she has been lost for days now. My office on M-69 keeps me apprised of the situation."
Reaching out, Stone gently took his daughter by the right bicep and began to get her to spin around. Ro gave in, allowing the directive touch to spin about on her heel. Now, facing the windows, Green could see the internal bay for Earth Spacedock, with all the berths and ships within, not to mention all the small craft buzzing around on a continuous busy work day. She was perplexed as to why he had spun her about, not seeing anything special.
"Look there," Stone said, pointing to a berth with a cruiser docked within it. A Guardian-class cruiser. "That is the USS Capernum, fresh from warp trials. Her captain was offered a berth as an academy instructor and took it. Needless to say, as Director of Starfleet Personnel, that left a vacuum I need to correct."
Ro's eyes went slightly wider at what he was saying, even as her gaze ran the length and breadth of the USS Capernum. A fine vessel built within the confines of a reliable cruiser class. "Are you saying..." Her voice trailed off.
Stone looked over at her as her own head turned to look at him. "Capernum needs a captain. M-69 needs a cruiser that is up to par with modern tech. Nazgul was a light cruiser, Peel is perfect for what it does. Plus, O'Connell impresses the shit outta me."
"He's a good man," Green said, having liked Jamie the first time she had ever met him. Her brain returned to the present moment involving herself. "So, Admiral, you're asking if I will take command of the USS Capernum?"
Admiral Stone grinned at her, giving a happy wink. "That's right. You game to try again, Captain?"
Without skipping a beat, Green responded immediately, though with a bit more oomph than expected. "Fuck yeah," she said with a smile.
Aaron chuckled. "'Atta girl. By the end of the day all command responsibilities will be transferred to you, as Captain and Commanding Officer. Nazgul will be pulled from the Messier Sector, so any and all aboard the Nazgul who wish to transfer to Capernum, will be given leave to do so immediately. Even Mister Loewen. His logs have denoted that he was not quite ready for the command position, and he may relish a bit more experience before he does it again. Not that he did horribly. We were all actually impressed with his transition and ability to slide right into the spot and make it work. Now, they're all missing. First priority for Capernum; find Nazgul." He then kept glancing sideways at her, even as he went on about mundane Starfleet hooplah. "So, any idea as to your Number One?"
Green, having been standing and contemplating taking the reins for the Capernum, had been running personnel through her mind, as to who would go where when she finally had them all aboard. The one empty spot in her mind was XO. "I have a few ideas, but I need to give it more thought."
"Mind if I make a suggestion, Captain?" His gaze was playful, as if he had already made the choice for her but was giving her the illusion of deciding.
Noting his look, Green returned his gaze with a tongue-in-cheek gaze of her own. "Alright, dad. Who do you suggest?"
Stone reached up and tapped his badge, the warbling sound opening the channel. "Jennifer," his assistant. "Send her in." Once he said that Stone began to turn around, getting Ro to join him. They faced a door across this lounge area from themselves, a door meant for flag officers. It opened and an unexpected individual walked through it, wearing the standard uniform of the day and a crooked grin as she saw Green's jaw about hit the floor.
"Surprised?" Taavis asked as she came to a stop just before her Captain and the Admiral.
"Taavis!?" Green looked the Vulcan woman up and down twice. She was in the Starfleet uniform of the day, complete with her four pips rank of captain on her collar. "What...how...?"
"It seems the Admiral is quite persuasive," Taavis responded, a grin forming on her face. "I agreed to take up my service where I last left off, if only for the chance to be your Number One, Captain Green. You are my Meji Master, my mentor, and my Commanding Officer. If you will have me, I am yours." Spoken like a true Vulcan, despite her prevalence for showing emotion.
Green, still a bit shell shocked, simply stepped in and gave Taavis a hug. Nothing intimate, just a show of her gratitude for the decision made by one who had sworn off serving just Starfleet. She stepped back and adjusted her uniform. "I can think of no better officer at my side, Captain Taavis. I gladly accept you as Number One."
Taavis seemed to deflate some, blowing out a breath. "Thank the stars. And, thank you for sparing me another minute of being little Miss Rigid."
Stone and Green gave a giggle, each. Aaron looked back and forth at the ladies. "It's settled, then? Captain," motioning at Green. "Number One," motioning at Taavis, both done with an askance tone.
"Yes," Green said with a smile. "Captain and Number One."
"Good," Stone said. "Your chariot awaits, Captains. I need to get to my office and get the transfers done. I'll come aboard once you've settled in and are ready to disembark." He gave Green a warm, fatherly hug, then Taavis got a warm, friendly hug, before he turned and walked away.
Taavis leaned in and whispered. "I like your dad. He's cute, too."
Green chuckled and shook her head. "Stop it, Taav. Not an image I need in my head. Come on," she said with a bit more excitement. "Let's make our way to the Capernum." Both ladies turned and walked together, through Spacedock, to go around the entire internal docking bay to their ship of destination.
