Location: M-69
Timeline: Current

ON:

Kehlani was on her knees, sitting back on her heels. Standing before her was her son Higan. He wore a mokbara gee whereas his mother wore her normal garments. None of the brandished weapons, this was a hand-to-hand training session even though Kehlani did have her d'k'tagh sheathed on her belt and a disruptor pistol holstered on her right hip.

"Attack!" Kehlani ordered, intending to use just her arms to defend against and offset her son's attacks. Higan, of course, was allowed to use his whole body for combat. After all she was the adult with battle experience and he just a child taking his first lessons in the art of combat.

Higan came in and full on attacked, swinging wildly to smash his mother in the face. However, his attempts were halfhearted and easily deflected.

Kehlani deflected and blocked the various strikes towards her face and, finally tired of this first go, used a maneuver to push both her son's arms off to the side and leaving him open to be struck. With an open-hand slap she blasted him hard across his left cheek with her right hand, so hard that he stumbled to his right a step. "Again!" It started all over again, with him acting thee same way and she giving him the same result, although this time his left cheek took the blow. "Stop!" Higan immediately ceased all action and stood back.

"What are you doing, Higan!?" Kehlani asked, obviously unhappy with his performance. "Your attacks are weak and sloppy! Why!?"

"You are my mother, and my Matriarch," Higan explained. "Striking you would be dishonorable."

Kehlani's face softened a bit, her eyes showing understanding for that concern. She took in a breath and let it out through her nose to calm her anger. "I understand your concern, Son. This is combat training so striking me, in any way, is allowed and understood. You are my son and I love you but, I do strike you as hard as I think you can handle. Pain is the only way to learn. If I hold back my strikes and coddle you then you learn nothing. You will die in the first engagement of any battle if I fail to prepare you properly. I cannot have that." His eyes were looking down at the carpet in their quarters on M-69. Kehlani leaned forward into his line of sight, looking up at him. "Do you understand?"

Higan gave her a solid nod. "Yes, Mother. I will bloody your nose if I can."

As she leaned back with a grin, Higan's eyes followed hers. Kehlani's grin widened at a thought. "If your father had held back you would not have been conceived. He broke my collarbone and cracked my clavicle and we still made love. That is what it means to be Klingon! Everything in life, even love, is a battle." Another solid nod from the boy.

The two Klingons continued the training, with Higan ending up with bruises all over his face by the time he went to bed. Kehlani saw him to his room and then returned to the main room, sitting down and contacting the IKS Bloodsport. Her call was routed to the HoD's quarters where she was blessed with the face of her husband. They caught up and exchanged news, nothing overly dramatic happening on either side of their lives. Marz told her that he planned to visit M-69 soon to give the crew some shore leave and he would be able to spend time with wife and son while they were there. It pleased Kehlani's hear to hear that, missing her gruff saber bear of a husband. Speaking of their love for each other last, they both signed off. Kehlani remained sitting in the dark, looking out the viewport at the stars as she got lost in her thoughts.
