Mission:
Stellar Problems
Location: Club Bliss
Timeline: current/somewhere in between
ON:
Having been walking the Promenade for a some time now, head on a swivel, Jynxza Dahl kept her eyes scanning for a familiar face. One the computer said was on the Promenade. However true that was, this was M-69 and the Promenade was quite sizeable and multi-leveled, and the damn thing never did tell her which level. Choosing the main level, that's where Dahl had ended up to begin her search. Now passing along the walkway in the Shadow Way section, Jynx looked into each doorway for the businesses there, scanning with her eyes. Not seeing her target she then moved on. When she got to the entrance to Club Bliss and looked inside, she could see Captain Green lounging at the bar in her Meji garb but not wearing her cloak. She was smiling and laughing as she spoke to the owner Manny, who was always behind the bar to dole out drinks and chat with his patrons and friends. Jynxza went inside, relaxing herself as she approached the woman of many accolades; Starfleet Captain, Fleet Captain, Founder and Grand Master of the Meji Order.
Green, as relaxed as she could be and enjoying some time in catching up with Manny, sensed she was being scrutinized from a distance. Not reacting by looking the direction she felt it from, Ro relied on her peripheral to keep tabs towards the door, and the Force to tell her if they were getting closer. They were. It was a familiar presence, but not one she was intimately familiar with in the sense that she had not known them long. When the person appeared beside them it suddenly dawned on her why the feeling was muddled. It was Lt. Dahl, a joined Trill, and that extra presence had mingled with the initial sense and confused her perception. Something Green would have to meditate on later to correct, since Dahl was not the only joined Trill on M-69. Shauna Vehn was also joined, and knowing who was who from a distance could be beneficial in an emergency. "Hello, Lieutenant," she greeted as the younger woman came up on her right side. "Drink?"
"Yeah, I'd like that." Jynxza responded, taking the offered stool to Green's left. She sat down and Manny asked her what she would like, so she ordered a Guinness pint.
"Good choice," offered Ro. "You seem intent on me, Miss Dahl. Any reason?"
"Yes, Sir. I mean, yes." Jynx switched it up from formal to relaxed, seeing as they were in a pub. Still, she was nervous as this was still a superior officer. Be polite, she reminded herself.
"Is there where I start guessing?" Ro asked, smiling with a light-hearted, expectant expression.
That look made Jynxza smile in return, her body visibly relaxing. Okay, she thought, maybe she's not some hardass. "I saw you and Kara in the X-wings through the forward viewport, when you guys were racing and playing chase during our approach. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I popped off to Taavis about how I wanted one and she said that wasn't beyond reach, but..." She paused, trying to figure out how to say it just right to not sound like she was pleading.
"But?" Ro urged her on, still smiling, her eyes showing Jynx that she knew exactly where this was heading, but wanted to hear it from the Lieutenant.
Seeing that understanding in the Captain's eyes put Jynxza even more at ease even as her stout was placed before her on the bar. Like I said when I popped off on the Bridge; Captain, I want one." Green started laughing, which caused Dahl to laugh along with her and take up her pint and take a swallow of stout.
Ro's expression was askance and showing surprise at the same time, her laughter going to giggles. "You said it just like that?"
"I did, yep." Jynxza giggled, too. She gave a nonchalant shrug. "Seven lives and I still lack the right amount of self control when I see something I want."
Green gave a nod to that, her smile remaining as she drank from her whiskey tumbler, casting a side glance at Dahl. The woman had confidence which was to be expected from someone with memories of lives over a century in the making. All those lives lived through the experiences of the Symbiont. It had to be an amazing thing to be a part of. Her hand came down and she set her glass on the bar top. "There is the matter of the co-pilot to consider, Jynxza."
"Co-pilot? I thought they were single person fighters?" Jynxza was confused.
"They are, for organics," Ro said. "However, the success of the X-wing comes from the automaton in the back, in their socket. What I call a droid. An AI, self aware being, who is your co-pilot at all times. They angle the deflectors for you, maintain in flight repairs, and they provide someone to talk to on long flights. They are as much a part of that fighter as the engines." Green explained. "Not to demean you as a Trill but, the relationship between X-wing, droid, and pilot is a symbiotic one. They are diminished when one is missing from the equation."
"Ah-ha. So, where do I get a droid?" Jynxza asked.
Ro grinned. "One would be built for you and your fighter. Specifically for you and your fighter. The droid becomes your companion and your property. You are responsible for their care as much as they are responsible for yours and the ship's. You've seen Cosmo following me around on occasion, right?" She got a nod for the question. "Cosmo has been with me for many years. He's my brother, my dearest friend, my confidante, and my son all in one. Many times he has risked his own destruction to make sure I was safe and out of harm's way. And, he has saved my life as not only my friend, but as his master. To lose him would devastate me as much as it would to lose Taavis. Maybe even more so."
"Wow," said Jynxza, having a hard time imagining such affection for a machine. "He must be very special."
"He's a workaholic," Green chuckled. "When not with me he wanders around and helps work crews with their daily maintenance tasks. The astromech droids can process on the low end, approximately 15,000 programs per second. They are efficient and fast at it for a reason. So, without one, your X-wing is at a disadvantage."
Jynxza began to form a smile, starting to detect that she was not going to be told no. Why else would the Captain explain all this? "So, you are considering letting me fly one?"
"I've already made the decision," Ro admitted. "Captain Taavis will be told that I approve of your request to fly an X-wing. They are considered Meji technology, for now, so that's why she sent you to talk to me. Eventually, when the Federation is ready for them, we will allow Starfleet to use them." Green glanced down at Jynxza's midriff, her eyes lingering there a moment, then they came back up as she produced a knowing grin about something.
Seeing that glance to her belly, and the grin cross Ro's face, Jynxza was curious but decided to let it pass since the current topic was her getting a fighter. That was her focus for this visit. "What about this droid thing?"
"Rollo," said Green. "Is Captain Taavis's droid. He'll have to create one for you like he did for Lt. Ainkara. Until then, I'm sure she will allow Rollo to fly with you if you get sent out in the fighter. Taavis does have a training simulator for the X-wing, to be used in a holodeck. I'm sure she will grant you access to it." Ro gave a smile at seeing how Jynxza's expression was all happiness. "Drink your stout while I text her." Her thumbs began moving a mile a minute after pulling her palm PADD from her belt pouch. It took a few minutes for her to write everything out with two digits, but she finally hit send and holstered the device. "You are now golden. Your callsign will be Angel Three. I'm Angel One, Kara is Angel Two."
"Got it," Dahl replied. "Thank you, Captain, for the trust." She could not help but ask. "As for me, why did you look to my abdomen and then grin. Is there something I should know?"
Ro gave a grunting chuckle in her throat, look over sidelong. "You'll know in time, Miss Dahl. Nothing to worry about, I assure you."
Jynxza figured it would not do any good to push so she dropped the subject about herself. "As for the droids, you refer to them all as 'he'. If they are acting like boys, then I want the first 'she' among them. A sisterhood with my droid sounds kinda cool."
"That can be arranged." Green said. "Just let Rollo know, or Taavis, and they'll make it happen. Cosmo has white and orange panels. Rollo, white and black, Nano white and green. If you desire a certain color, ask for it."
Dahl gave a light laugh. "Oh, definitely white and neon pink, with a black border around the pink sections. She'll be known as Pinky." She laughed a little harder at that, envisioning what Pinky would look like since she had seen Cosmo a few times. "Yep, Pinky it is. Fits my warped way of thinking."
Even Green got caught up in the giggling. "I think it's a cool idea. Something different. Variety is the spice of life, after all."
The two women continued to talk. Both enjoyed the other's company and there was lots of smiling and laughter as they went from one subject to the next.
