ON:
Captain Taavis had awoken at her usual time in the morning, went through her isometric exercises and katas, and then showered and took care of hygiene. Once dressed in her uniform for the day. As much as Jynxza had wanted to stay over, Taavis needed solace, serenity. Once dressed she sat on her throw rug in the common area of her quarters, got in the lotus position and meditated for an hour. Bringing her mind back to reality, she then stood up and stretched her body to stay limber after being in a static position for an hour. Once done she made herself a power breakfast, ate in silence as she tapped a ship's PADD to look over the reports from the night before, adding her mark that they had been read. So quiet it was in her quarters that one could hear a pin drop, the way she liked it when her mental focus was needed for her duties ahead. Cleaning up and doing the dishes by hand she then dried her hands, replicated a thermomug of mint tea, and left her quarters heading for the Ready Room.
Upon entry to the Ready Room, Taavis went around the Captain's desk and sat down, scooting up for a day of business. Loewen had remained aboard to see to his XO responsibilities she felt it was only right that she match his dedication and work ethic. Her choice in Number One had not been a bad decision. The intercom bleeped and T'Pri's voice came through. "Captain Taavis, incoming call from Admiral Stone for you."
Taavis responded. "Thank you, Lieutenant. Patch it through to the Ready Room." T'Pri acknowledged and then the holo screen came up in front of Taavis.
Aaron Stone's grinning face appeared on screen, his own mug of steaming beverage sitting before him on his desk. "Good morning, Taavis."
"Good morning, Admiral," Taavis said, returning the pleasantry. She remained pleasant even with her expressions, but she did not grin. "How may the Capernum be of service, Sir? Or, is this a social call?"
Stone smiled at her queries. "Well, first of all, Captain, I like to maintain an air of both with my calls, unless it's an emergency. Since it's not, I'll continue. Out in your direction for M-69, sitting between Klingon space and Federation space, is a star system called BXN-553. With an M-class planet available within the system some pioneers decided to colonize it." He paused and sipped his coffee.
"Is the colony in danger, Sir?" Taavis asked.
"Not in the conventional sense, Taavis." Stone replied before continuing. "They are stubbornly independent, but are still Federation citizens. They don't want government or Starfleet interference in how they do things. We have honored that. However, they have called for assistance with the colony. Setting up the power core to name one. It's in place but there are complications with it; brown outs and such. I'm sure the USS Capernum could go out and take a peek to get them set up without anymore issues."
Taavis finally gave a slight grin. "I'm sure my people can handle it, Sir. Plus, time on soil is always sought with great enthusiasm. Has the planet been fully explored?"
"Scanned, yes," Stone said. "Actually explored, no. They are conducting exploration as we speak but the power issues are putting a pause in their sciences and research. I am assigning the Capernum to go and have a look see. Not a rush, Captain, but some expedience would be nice."
The grin on her face grew. Taavis had always liked Admiral Stone. "We will recall the crew and get ready to depart. A casual departure will get everyone back on track for duty after an extended shore leave on M-69."
Stone gave a nod and grin. "My thoughts exactly. Thank you, Captain Taavis and, smooth sailing. Stone, out." The screen went blank and then faded from where it was.
Taavis leaned back in her chair and began to align her mind for departure. She tapped her badge. "Commander Sheyla, put out a recall. All crew are to return to USS Capernum as shore leave is now over. They are to report aboard and begin to prepare for departure. Standard duty as this is not an emergency."
Sheyla responded. "I'll see to it, Captain."
"Thank you, Sheyla. Taavis, out." She tapped her badge to close the channel and then got to her feet. It was time to sit on the Bridge for duty, and see to ship's business as it got reported. She stood and went around the desk, then exited the Ready Room/CIC for Capernum. Upon entering the Bridge, Taavis went and stood on the dais next to her chair, looking towards her Vulcan Science Chief. "T'Pri, the orders from Starfleet Command, and the mission summary should be logged by now. Make sure to distribute the information to all devices for crew consumption at their leisure."
"Yes, Captain." T'Pri went to work getting the data added to the reader boards and PADDs around the ship, and any other devices used by the crew that were ship property, not personal. She spun her chair enough to look at the now seated Taavis from the Captain's right side over her shoulder view. "Mission parameters added to all devices, Captain, and the reader boards." She informed.
Taavis spun her chair enough to turn her head to look at T'Pri without any difficulty, her legs crossed at the thigh and her CO PADD on her lap. "Thank you, T'Pri. Make ready all systems for departure. When the crew is all aboard then we should have a smooth transition away from M-69."
"Of course, Captain." T'Pri agreed. "I am curious, will we have time to explore this world ourselves?"
Taavis was Vulcan, and knew well her discipline but, she was also one who accepted her emotions. Through the Force and natural intuition she could sense the Science Officer's want to do some exploring of her own. "Do you find the possibility agreeable, Lt. T'Pri?"
T'Pri, seeing that her fellow Vulcan was curious as to her mindset, answered. "I cannot deny that my curiosity is stimulated. It would be most agreeable to take some samples and walk upon the surface. I would consider it my shore leave since I did remain aboard during our ship maintenance. If you would indulge me, of course, Captain."
Showing who she was, having long ago given up trying to act against her nature around other Vulcans, Taavis grinned. "Indulgence, accepted, Miss T'Pri. If the colony is fine with it I shall grant your request."
"Thank you, Captain." Said T'Pri. "For your understanding." Once that was said she spun back to face her station. Now, they waited to see how long the crew would take to board.
