Amongst several new arrivals to the station was a young Human/Vulcan woman, only recently graduated from the Academy and assigned to Starbase M69 just as she’d wanted. Whether that was by chance, or whether her grandfather had swayed it for her she wasn’t sure.
Having dropped her things off at her quarters after checking in with security, T’Lanna made her way to Ops to report in to Commodore Sureth. Somehow his being Vulcan made her feel more comfortable, having spent most of her life on Vulcan.
Stepping into Ops she looked around setting her sights on Sureth. “Excuse me Commodore, Ensign T’Lanna O’Connell reporting for duty Sir.”
" Welcome Ensign. It is agreeable to have you with us. I am Sureth. The station is in process of being moved to a new location so your arrival will be some what busy until we get moved."
“Understood Sir” T’Lanna smiled. “I will do my upmost to fit right in. My duties are two fold, my main is Archaeologist and Anthropologist, plus I’m also a nurse so I have that for when it’s required.”
" The science department is very blessed to have you. The planet Aurelia is class L but does support an adequate nitrogen oxygen atmosphere which is decisive for the fact it is inside a Nebula." Sureth replied. " You will have plenty to do."
“It sounds exciting Sir” T’Lanna grinned. “There’ll be plenty of scope for investigation both from orbit and on the surface.”
" Once the station is established prospects on the surface will begin. We will map the planet before the colonies are established." Sureth replied.
“Colonies? Does that mean we’ll be given the opportunity to set up homes on the surface eventually?”
" That is the goal. But I would like a full anthropology study done of the planet before they come. Which is why you are here." Sureth replied.
“Consider it already done Sir” T’Lanna nodded. “I’ll start by studying up on the area, see if there’s any records of any prior civilisations in the area. Have there been any scans done of the planet itself either by us or anyone else?”
" Yes of the nebula. None of the planet. There is one major ocean which is very odd for an L class planet." Sureth added.
“Indeed” T’Lanna nodded. “It’ll be interesting to see what a scan of the entire planet will show us.”
" We still have a team in the area. I will ask Captain Kingston to launch a probe if possible." Sureth replied.
“That would be great, the better the readouts are the more idea I’ll have where to start with a full survey.” T’Lanna smiled enthusiastically.
" Ensign your enthusiasm is motivating. I thought I was the only one excited about this move." Sureth replied.
“Ohh I’m excited in general Sir” T’Lanna added with a smile. “ The move just makes it even more exciting.”
" I will inform Commander Devroe the New Executive Officer to place your name on the first official away team." Sureth replied as he was inspired by her youth and energy.
“Thank you Sir, I appreciate that” T’Lanna smiled warmly. “May I ask, is Captain O’Connell aboard station right now?”
" No he is on a special mission. Are you aquainted?" Sureth asked.
T’Lanna smiled. “He’s my father, though I don’t think he’s aware of it yet. I plan to introduce myself when he returns.”
Sureth paused as he had once been in a similar position when Isabella arrived to the station.
" It is just a routine mission. He should be meeting us at Aurelius when that mission is completed. If you will excuse me Ensign I have other duties to attend ." Sureth replied as he moved to leave.
“Of course Sir” T’Lanna nodded respectfully and headed on her way as well.
Sureth went into the temporary room.and made a note to himself concerning Captain O'Connell's daughter being here.
