New orders

Posted on Fri Sep 25th, 2026 @ 12:47am by Commander David Wallace & Ensign T’Lanna O’Connell

Mission: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 09/26
Location: Various

T’Lanna was heading to see Commander Wallace, a PaDD in her hand contained orders for medical duties aboard the USS Capernum when required. To say she was surprised by those orders was an understatement especially as she had hardly gotten settled onto the station yet.

David rolled over in his bed aboard the Cascade, he was half asleep when the comms interrupted the slower start to his day, "Wallace, go." was about the extent of his comprehension

=^="Ops order from the station, a medic or medical staff is coming over."=^= Elisa said

"Okay...I'll head to the airlock and meet them." David said.

T’Lanna was still buzzing at the thought of assignment aboard a starship, even if it was only when needed. She was going to get the best of both worlds. Arriving at the airlock she smiled as she saw who she assumed was Commander Wallace. “Commander Wallace I assume? I’m T’Lanna O’Connell, your newly assigned Medic.”

"Welcome aboard the Cascade..." David said fighting a yawn "I appreciate you checking in so quickly."

“I apologise if I disturbed you on some well earned time to yourself Sir” T’Lanna offered an apologetic smile. “To say I was surprised to get these orders is an understatement. I haven’t been onboard the station that long really.”

"I was due to get up in half an hour, an uninterrupted nights sleep is a rare thing at times." David said as several crew walked by heading down the corridor.

“Yeah I guess it is, they used to wake us up at the silliest of hours at the Academy just for the hell of it. When people complained they said it was something we needed to get used to.” T’Lanna smiled. “Fortunately my Vulcan half can cope with lack of sleep. Not quite so much for my Human half.”

"That hasn't changed much, you’re assigned to the chief medical officer quarters while aboard," David started as they approached the turbolift "Deck two." he said after stepping in, "There's a side stairwell near your quarters that take you right to sickbay, the officers mess and main mess halls are operating twenty four hours a day, on extended missions there's a fixed menu, on short haul missions the cooks do short order and specialty, Sick bay and labs are on deck three, holodecks, gym and shuttle launch control are on deck four, along with a first aid station, we only have three turbolifts, the cargo lift which runs from the back of the shuttle bay to the lower decks, turbolift two which runs between deck two and the engineering levels and lift one which runs the length of the ship."

“Right okay” T’Lanna nodded hoping she’d remember all of that. “I’m only a medic, I’m no replacement for a the CMO, but I’ll do my upmost.” She offered a polite smile.

"Until that's sorted out you're it." David said "besides most of the time it's minor burns and hangovers."

T’Lanna smiled. “That I can deal with Sir. To be honest I don’t see the fascination with getting drunk, considering the side effects afterwards. Easier to stick with synthahol, not that I drink it.”

"I don't encourage it." David said

T’Lanna grinned. “Is there anything I should know about the ship, or the type of missions?”

David didn't hesitate here "Missions will vary drastically and can be on little more notice than getting paged to report others are scheduled, also we don't wear the normal line uniforms when on duty, the quartermaster should be up with that shortly." he paused as they exited the turbolift "Your quarters aboard the Cascade are this way." he said motioning to the left.

T’Lanna nodded and followed on in the direction David was leading. “Okay different uniforms I can live with” she smiled. “Are there any other primary station crew who serve onboard?”

"There's two dozen enlisted, The Chief engineer Gavin Watson, along with Ensign's Bear, Chen, Powell and Gibson who make up the current senior staff along with Commander Veran-Dallas, but if you need anything specific Ensign Gibson seems to be the ring-leader on the non-standard things, she did quite the job on helping the commander get her quarters in order to accommodate her family, Chief Mason is the supply officer, if those two can't find it it doesn't exist."

T’Lanna nodded. “Understood. I’m looking forward to being here, I haven’t had a chance to serve aboard a ship as yet so it’ll make an interesting change.

=^="Bridge to Captain!"=^= interrupted the moment "Go ahead."

=^="Engineering is ready to run the system tests."=^= The female voice said

David looked to T'Lanna but replied "Keep me posted, Wallace out." he returned to his conversation "A couple of the experimental systems on the ship didn't work on the last outing and we might need them for the trip to earth next week."

“A trip to Earth next week? That’ll be fun!” T’Lanna smiled her excitement and enthusiasm showing. “I’m looking forward to it already.”

"It's mostly intel stuff, there are some specialty seminars and lectures, I also think they're still doing the sharp shooting competition plus we'll be staying at my families estate near where it'll be taking place." David said

“Wow! Your family’s estate? I never imagined anything like this when I received my orders.” T’Lanna smiled.

"I've never been personally, I didn't meet my father until I took this assignment here at the station." David said as they approached the CMO quarters.

“So it’s as new to you as it is to everyone else.” T’Lanna added as she nodded her head. “So this is an Intelligence ship? I always thought ships like this required officers with high Intel clearance levels?”

"Most of our missions fall under the normal rules unless specified..." David was interrupted again.

=^="Intelligence to Wallace."=^=

"Wallace here..." David said

=^="Richardson here sir, we got a seven five two signal on the comm intercepts."=^=

David froze, "I'll be over in a few minutes, keep me posted." David said ending the conversation and refraining from swearing he turned to resume talking with T'Lanna "Looks like duty calls."

“In that case I’ll let you go Sir, I can find my own way back to the station once I’ve visited my quarters here.” T’Lanna smiled warmly.

"Next door on the right, the service stairway in on the left." David said, "The lock is keyed too your commbadge, and again welcome aboard." David said as he turned to head back too the station, after a few short steps "Bridge, see to anything CMO O'Connell needs, and then go to stand by code two in case we need to depart."

=^="Aye sir, should we alert the XO?"=^=

"Yes, I'd rather have everyone on standby than a full on alert for no reason, Wallace out." David said as the lift doors close.

Heading to her quarters T’Lanna was surprised by just how nice they were as she was alerted to the fact that she may need to stay onboard incase the ship needed to depart.
