Yui Kudo was on cloud nine. Upon hearing the news in her mother's office, and Grampa Stone laying out the new initiatives from his end of things, she had helped her mother move her personal belongings out of the Fleet Captain's office. Once that chore was done, and needing to see to her own activities, Yui broke away and immediately requested a tetiary science lab for personal use; a personal lab she could set up in. While going through her mind and notes on how she wanted to set the lab up, and about half an hour after her request to have a lab set aside for her private use, the call came in that one had been located. It was fairly close to where her residential section was so she headed there.
Kami rolled along beside his master/mistress Yui, seeing that pep in her step when she was excited and focused. He had heard Master Ro accept Yui as an Acolyte of the Meji Order, so he could only surmise that that was part of her excitement. Reaching the lab, the door sliding open upon her approach, Yui saw that the lab space was adequate to her needs. Not too small, and just big enough to house all the machinery and work stations she would need. "Kami, begin transporting the equipment. Give us a lockdown code. I don't want anyone in here unless I am," she stated, then looked sideways and down to her left with a grin. "Present company excluded, of course."
"Of course," Kami piped back. "I shall begin set-up. Same basic concept as usual, Miss. I see a reinforced internal energy lab within our confines. I shall get that set for the mycelial gate experiments."
"Thank you, Kami. Get Blue and Hazel set up on a bench, standing beside each other. I feel like working on them again now that they'll have a massive starbase as a home, and to explore and learn." Yui's little automatons, small robots/droids with anti-grav units, and ion jetpacks for liftoff if they wanted to move about quickly without worrying about stairs and lifts. An AI project Yui had been working on for the past few months. They were both completely built, now. But, they needed the basic prgramming installed. (pics of Blue and Hazel in personnel file). The small droids only stood 24 inches tall. They were mechanical life forms, at least in Yui's heart and mind. She just hoped that they both developed good personalities once they were activated and awake.
"I have to meet with the command staff," Yui admitted while beginning to move items around as they were being beamed in to the small two person/cargo transporter within the lab. She had not asked for that specialty, but having the last name she did must have prompted the OPS Manager to give her a higher level personal lab. Yui appreciated it. Kami, as always, listened to her as he maintained a steady rhythm to his duties. "Mom said something about being the Diplomatic officer aboard, as a reserve position, and more conducive to her focusing on her Meji duties. So, I'm going to join her in that, and hope that Doctor Williams will let me tend to Sickbay on the graveyard shift now and then."
Kami ran that through his mechanical mind. "Well, you don't sleep unless you want to, so that sounds perfect for when your nights are slow. I take it you want me to tend to our lab here?"
"Yes, Kami, thank you," She replied. "Get everything fine-tuned as we had it back in the Quazi Concordium. Just like aboard the Quazi-moto."
"Will do, Miss Yui. I must congratulate you on being accepted into the Meji Order. I know Master Ro is your mother, but even that should not have been a factor on whether or not you were chosen." Kami continued. "As the highest authority in the Order, and her founding, I do hope that her decision was not based on family connection."
Yui lifted Hazel from her carrying case and stood her up on a long workbench. The pink and white Quazitronic (A Quazi step up from positronic) automaton was adorable, just like her brother Blue. Hazel had hazel eyes, and how she got her name. Same with Blue. He was white and blue, looking like a matching pair to his sister. Both looked like adorable little space dwarves. "Why do you say that?" She let out as she got Hazel in a spot, then began to open the case for little Blue to be set up.
Kami's little dome head turned her way, his little eye looking right at her. "Because, Miss Yui, if she used her maternal connection to grant you a position, then it could have dire consequences for various reasons. I would be beside myself if something terrible happened to you because you were not ready for such and became non-functional."
Yui gave a light giggle, looking over at her faithful friend and companion, a BB-droid who was more conscientious of others than some people she had met. "I plan to be around a long time, Kami. I did not enter the decision lightly. Mother knows that. It's why I did not join Starfleet. I don't want to be constrained by those duties while trying to live my life."
Continuing to beam things in, Kami responded. "I trust your judgement, Miss Yui. As always, I will be at your side or right behind you."
Another smile crossed Yui's face upon hearing that. "Thank you, Kami. Have I told you lately that I love you?"
"Yes," Kami popped off, with a bit of tease. "I believe just yesterday, as a matter of memory."
Yui giggled. "Well, for today, then. I love you, Kami. Thanks for always being there."
The two companions continued to set up her private lab.
