PREFACE

The IKV Chus'ugh had only been in dock a day before Commodore Sureth went over and asked its Commander for a big favor. Recently Turk, Waroqs son had been killed in action and that left a big opening aboard the lone Klingon ship in this sector.

" Number One I apologise for having volunteered you to go with Waroq and take his ship to cover Lt Commander Wallace. If he is successful we will extract Captain Rivers from his captors." Sureth explained as they walked to the transporter room.

Shauna looked at Sureth. “I will do my upmost not to let you down Commodore.”

" You never have Number One. You are the poster child for Starfleet just like the original Number One."

Awaiting Shauna stood a large male Klingon wearing the rank of Lieutenant. Seeing her approach his narcissism kicked in.

" I am Kahvek first gunner of the Chus'ugh. Follow me to the bridge."

Shauna stood her ground refusing to follow until she was properly addressed. “I may not be a Klingon Lieutenant, but I am your First Officer and you will address me with the proper respect!”

" va" Kahvek first said but then added. " Commander would you follow me this way to the bridge? Commander Waroq has just boarded and is ready to break orbit" he added with unsure sarcasm.

“Better” Shauna nodded. “But next time less of the frustrated cursing Lieutenant” she nodded and followed Kahvek to the bridge.

" The last human to board...come aboard this ship did not leave it alive. We are here " Kahvek announced.
KLINGON BRIDGE

The smell was hanous to non Klingons and had to smack Shauna in the nose but Kahvek led her to Waroq's side.

" She is here...the New Commander is here my lord." Kahvek corrected.

" Eager huh. You should have been with us on Brol. Battling the arachnids was glorious. Tell me Commander is the Federation ship expecting to be out numbered? I have never heard of this Essary." Waroq asked.

“Quite possibly Commander” Shauna nodded. “The Essary like to try baiting our ships, it’s useful to have backup ready incase they get any ideas.”

"Sureth received us under a banner of peace He has my loyalty. Helm plot course and fire thrusters." Waroq replied

“I won’t let you, or Sureth, down Commander” Shauna gave Waroq a respectful nod.

" Kahvek is my 2nd officer and grandson. He is also without a mate should you be looking." Waroq joked.

“I am sure Kahvek will find a suitable Klingon female in time Commander” Shauna replied diplomatically.

Kahvek bowed his head and pretended to be looking in the gunners sights.

As the modified D-7 moved out past the station the last image of the 69 passed by the screen.

" To Battle and Victory Qapla!" Waroq shouted.

“To Victory!” Shauna replied offering a smile.

The vessel then went to warp and Shauna could feel the deck plates below her vibrating.

" Commander order us to cloak....in Klingon" Waroq poked as he figured she probably couldn't.

Shauna had to think quickly, she didn’t know many words in the Klingon language but she had heard that one before. “So'wI'yIchu”

Kahvek turned around and smiled.
" Well done Commander. Perhaps you have some Klingon in you after all."

Waroq smiled as he was impressed as well. The true test would be to see her in battle.

" Commander what is your suggestive posture?" Waroq asked.

“My suggested posture would be to show a firm stance Sir, Let them see that we mean to defend our territory without being the ones to start the fight.” Shauna looked at Waroq. “We won’t start it, but we’ll finish it if we have to.”

" So you would have us uncloak and show them we are here?
The Klingon way is to pounce when the enemy least suspects us. I will wait for the enemy to attack your ship then I will uncloak and finish them off. Que'cha! " Waroq replied calling for tactical.

Two blips showed one being friend the other foe.

“As you said Sir, I am not Klingon.” Shauna offered a wry smile. “I have to uphold Starfleet regulations.”

" When this is over you will be both." Waroq added.

Kahvek looked to Commander Callaghan and motioned for her to come closer.

" It is a good day to die Commander."

Shauna sighed. “I most certainly hope not.”
