Station Post 6 " Aquisitions Part 1 "

Mission: OPERATION SEARCH AND RESCUE
Location: Starbase M-69/ Lagoon Nebula

It is the mark of a good Ferengi to always seize opportunities when they appear and Shep was a good Ferengi.

While out on a trade with prospective clients he and his minion crew had not only made a prophet but had found time to lend aid to a nobody.

Listening to the over head comms and scuttlebutt Shep soon realized he was missing out on a great opportunity in the nebula.

Heading to sickbay Shep quickly stuffed an ear plug in his left ear, entered sickbay and immediately cried out in great pain.

Doctor Williams looked up when hearing someone hollering in pain. Walking up to a Ferengi while he was holding his left ear "I'm Doctor Williams, what seems to be the problem with your ear" he inquired as he motioned for Nurse Stone to join them.

" My left ear has stopped working Doctor. I was playing dabo with Ensign Harth and she hit me in the lobes. You know the lobes are the most sensitive of Ferengi organs. I think she made me deaf. If I am deaf I will lose my livelihood as a salesman. I will have to apply for Federation assistance and go on welfare. " Shep whined in between his answer.

"OK, before you get all 'my life is over' on me why don't you lay on your right side and let me have a look" Ramvek instructed knowing only too well the Ferengi mentality; something he had dealt with over the years in his profession.

" Is it bad Doctor....am I disabled now?" whined Shep. Shep eyeballs the nurse but there was a deal more that had his attention.

The Doctor had grabbed a lighted magnifier and peered into his ear. After examining said ear he came to a couple of logical conclusions. First the object was an ordinary earplug shoved into the ear canal and secondly, by the angle in the ear, there was no doubt in his mind that the problem was self inflicted; for whatever reason. Ramvek decided to have some fun with this guy to hopefully teach him a lesson as he stated "Well my friend, I have to tell you this is the worst looking ear I have ever seen in all my years of being a Doctor. As much as I hate to say this, I am afraid the only solution to your problem is a complete amputation of your left ear" Then looking at Heidi with a wink, hoping she would play along, he inquired "Would you not agree with my prognosis Nurse."

Nurse Stone grinned towards Ramvek trying not to laugh "Yes Doctor Williams I see no other alternative" she stated matter of factly.

" Wait..What? Did you say amputate my lobes...but it is just an ear ache. I want another opinion. Where is the cat doctor? Help they're butchers.

Outside the waiting area two minion Ferengi of his crew paced helplessly as the fate of their ill Daimon hung in the
air. Hearing his scream they ran in.

" We are here Daimon." both said running around the Doctor and Nurse Stone.

One would run in front and the other the rear slowly grabbing hypos and pocketing them.

The Shep stood up.

" I am offended and will take my Healthcare needs to another station."

The Doctor was getting quite irritated, allowing his human side to kick in, as he stated in no uncertain terms "I don't know what your game is, but the next time you come to my Sick Bay you darn well better be truthful about your condition. I know you were not hit in the lobes but rather placed an ear plug into your own ear....don't waste our time with your scheming....we have sick people who need out attention."

" You're right Doctor. I apologize, the truth is we need to borrow these items and I was afraid you would say no. Empty your pockets you heatherns." Shep ordered his minions of which they complained.

Ramvek quickly realized that this whole situation was a joint effort, only Shep was out to save his own hide, but decided to play along "Apology accepted and if you need some of these I'll sell some to you; you don't need to resort to thievery" he stated rather stone faced.

" Doctor a beings life is at stake. In my travels back from another client my ship found a craft near Essary space. The being inside is half alive we think. " Shep explained.

Doctor Williams listened to what Shep was explaining wondering if he was being truthful or not; but still if a being's life was at stake, he couldn't turn a blind eye "Sounds like what you really need is a Doctor and not just syringe; so what would you suggest."

" It is in our cargo hold along with its latinum." a minion Ferengi answered first.

" What Grunt is saying is we rescued it before an Essary ship found it. Will you come to my ship?" Shep asked.

"Yes of course, let me grab my medical bag and I'll be ready momentarily" then turning to Heidi "Nurse let Doctor Hiri know where I am, I shouldn't be too long. Depending on its condition you may be getting an emergency beam in to Sick Bay" Ramvek explained as he was checking his bag.

"No problem Doctor and we'll be ready should we receive the Patient" Nurse Stone assured the Doctor.

Ramvek grabbed his bag looking at Shep "OK lets go I am ready" he replied anxious to see just how bad this being really was.

Shep and the minions rushed to the lift and then up three decks to the hanger ring.
The vessel was not a marauder but clear was Ferengi through and through given its size.

" That thing is in the back. We found the pod it was in floating on the edge of the nebula. Is it alive?" Shep asked.

Ramvek put down his Medical Bag on the floor and opened it grabbing his Medical Trip-corder and proceeded to scan the being. After several minutes "Well it appears to still be alive....but barely" he responded while placing his hand on the Being then tapping his Comm "Transporter Room One, Doctor Williams here, lock on to my signal; emergency beam to Sick Bay" he requested. "Right away Doctor" and moments later they disappeared.

Nurse Stone was ready for their newest Patient when Ramvek beamed into Sick Bay "Nurse help get this Being onto the Bio-bed" he ordered; Nurse Stone did as requested then proceeded to setup the scanner at the head of the bed. Ramvek grabbed his scanner from his pocket and went over the Being from head to foot while watching the Screen over the Bio-bed.

Meanwhile the Being opened it eyes and looked at the Doctor as Williams called out "Computer initialize the Universal Translator" "Universal Translator initialized." came the response. "Greetings, I am Doctor Williams and you are in Sick Bay on Star Base M-69; we are here to help you."

" I..am Harus of ....Who are you? How do you speak my tongue song?" asked the feathered being.

Thinking that perhaps Harus did not know what a Doctor was Ramvek tried a different approach "I am Ramvek Williams, I am a healer and we are here to help you. We have something called a Universal Translator, that is how you hear me speaking your tongue song" he explained with a smile "Could you tell me what happened to you."

" I am in search of our Supreme Creator. My ship was damaged and I was close to death. Three beings retrieved me and I am now here. We are not aware of other beings inside the great vapor. Do you also serve the Supreme Creator?" Harus asked.

Ramvek thought for a few moments trying to comprehend what Harus was saying before answering "We are outside the great vapor" thinking he meant the Nebula "Yes I serve the Supreme Creator; that is the reason I became a healer" he replied as he was looking over the Screen at the end of the Bio-bed "I would like to give you some medicine to make you feel better if you will allow it."

" My injuries are repairable? This is truly a miracle Doctor Williams. I accept this blessing." Harus replied.

Ramvek smiled "Yes Harus your injuries are quite repairable" he replied "But I will need you to stay with us here for a couple of days" and with that the Doctor loaded up a Hypospray with the required medications "This won't hurt" as he administered the medicine "You should start feeling better soon."

" Oh great Hadah bless the life of Doctor Williams." Harus whispered as his large eyes closed.

Ramvek over heard something Harus said but couldn't quite make it out as Heidi spoke up "He seems to be resting comfortably; why don't I check in on him later this evening so you can get some rest. You look tired Doctor" she commented with a smile.

"Thank you Nurse; I just may take you up on your offer" Ramvek replied "But if you find he is not doing well then call me right away."

"Absolutely Doctor" Heidi answered.

Ramvek walked over to Harus' bedside "So how are you feeling now since the drugs have had time to do their job" he inquired in a gentle voice.

" Hadah does all healing. But that will not happen now that the raiders have taken our deity from our home. Your healing skills are as blessed Dr Williams. Are you also a deity among your people?"

Listening to his Patient the Doctor had to ask "Is your Deity a living, breathing Being.....and who are these raiders you are referring to. As far as me being a deity, the answer to that would be no; I'm just a man made up of flesh and bones who studied for many years to be able to help people such as yourself.

" HADAH is HADAH . Our creator and provider of health and prosperity. When the raiders too her shrine we lost our deity.Now sickness and death are imminent on my world. Even the great myst has closed its doors until she returns." Harus replied.

Hearing the explanation, Ramvek realized that Hadah was a statue or a carving portraying this Deity of health and prosperity "I am sorry for your misfortune for you and your people. Perhaps Hadah can be retrieved before long" Ramvek commented trying to make his Patient feel better; although logically the odds of that happening were not very good.

SHEPS SHIP

Shep sat down in his chair and listened to the conversation between the alien and Dr Williams. Having thrown away the ear plug that was actually a microphone he could hear everything. Including the story about a missing shrine and raiders that had seized it.

" We now have a plan fellow Ferengi. A great acquisition is before us." Shep concluded.
