Isabelle was sitting up with a comfortable pillow behind her back, thanks to her father she was feeling better than she had, and for now the voice of the creature in her head was silent. How long that would last she wasn’t sure but for now she was feeling much better. She looked towards Lily who was occupying a nearby biobed. “How are you doing Lily?”

"I think I'm feeling better." Lily replied. "It's been a very strange day, hasn't it? Or part of a day, I guess." she spoke with her head facing forward and her eyes closed. She opened her eyes and turned her head to face Isabelle. "How are you feeling? Better I hope?"

Isabelle nodded. “A lot better than I was, Hiri assures me my son is unaffected so that’s a load off my mind. This creature seems to be interested in you because you’re the incubus, but me? Why would it want me?” She sighed. “I think we both need to watch our backs.”

"I think you're right." Lily agreed. "There are too many possibilities to narrow down as to why it might want you, at least to my scientific mind. Maybe it's to do with your psychic abilities." she shook her head slowly. "At least with us both together, security can keep an eye on both of us at once. It will probably be safer."

Isabelle nodded. “That puts my mind at rest at least. Whatever this...creature is it’s obviously not finished here yet, we need to be careful.”

"I'm good at that." Lily said. "I try to leave the dangerous work to security. Unless it involves working near absolute zero, but that's a different kind of danger." she tried to make a joke. "That said, I feel like I should be arming myself in case those... things come for me again. Do I call them zombies? They were literally the dead walking."

“Zombies sounds correct to me” Isabelle nodded. “I’d rather they stay dead and not reanimate though.” She shivered at the mere thought.

"It was very creepy. They had nanites in them that did the job." Lily said. "I don't think they'll be getting up again. I wonder if that voice I heard was the creature calling to them? Hiri said I had foreign protein in my blood. I've been trying ever since then to figure out how that might have... gotten..." she trailed off. "Oh dear. I bit Heldon."

Isabelle nodded. “Sounds like that would do it. I’ve been hearing the voices too but I think that’s because I am, or was, linked to the creature because he fed on me. The voices have gone for now, I don’t know how long for though.”

"He fed on you?" Lily asked, eyes widening in astonishment. "So my link is blood from Heldon, and yours is from this creature. A working hypothesis is that this race's blood has some sort of effect on other races. I'm reminded of an ancient Terran myth - that of the vampire." she shuddered. "Where they gain control over others through use of their blood. All myths come from somewhere."

Isabelle nodded. “Hiri gave me a blood transfusion from my father, something about my Vulcan blood being stringer or something. It’s almost like whatever this creature does to its victims it gives them a virus of sorts, one that overwhelms the body.”

Unknown to either a nearby medical technician wasn’t entirely what he seemed. He was listening to every word and his close presence was having an effect on both of his female victims.

Isabelle massaged her temples, she suddenly felt like her body was burning up, and the voices that had appeared to be gone were suddenly speaking loud and clear. She sat as if lost in thought, staring at the walls.

Lily could feel her heart beating again, a strange sensation as if something wasn't quite right. Her whole body went cold and sweat broke out on her forehead. She collapsed back on the biobed, her eyes flickering shut. A voice started up in her mind again, telling her that she wanted to be with him.

Isabelle was fighting a losing battle, the urge to obey the creature was a powerful one. He was cautious ensuring they were alone, it took mere moments for him to make a small, yet deep enough incision in his own wrist which he offered up to Isabelle. His command was a mental one willing her to drink, with his blood coursing through her veins she would be his just like Lily.

Isabelle tried to fight the urge, but it was too powerful. She gripped his arm and moments later drank what was being offered. From this moment on she was his to control.

"No, I don't want to." Lily breathed. "I don't want to be with you." Her head rocked back and forth, unaware that the creature was feeding Isabelle its blood just feet from where she lay. She tried to use the meditation she had learned from her former fiancé, but her heart was still beating erratically, and it made it hard for her to concentrate. "Stop!"

The creature smiled as it finished ‘feeding’ Isabelle, moving towards Lily it gazed at her. She was the incubus she had a fate ahead of her, she was to be unharmed but she was linked and therefore controllable. It watched as the effect of ingesting the blood coursed through Isabelle as she wiped her mouth and stood strong nodding to her master. She would know what to do, with that it was gone looking for more victims.

“Lily! Are you alright?” Isabelle offered a hand and a smile. She knew her master’s wishes, she would make them come to fruition.

Lily opened her eyes to see Isabelle standing over her. "I don't know." she said, blinking. She took the counsellor's hand. "I may have drifted off and had a strange dream, or I may have just been hearing a voice again. Am I going mad, counsellor?"

“Not at all” Isabelle offered a smile. “After what we’ve both been through I’m not surprised this happened. It’ll be okay, of that I’ve no doubt.”

"Oh, good." Lily replied. "That's a relief"
