Taavis, upon finding where her offices and quarters would be, was impressed. M-69 had not been designed for the position of a fleet captain, so in their wisdom they had converted two VIP suites, side by side. Her quarters were the same as all other VIP suites, which she would spice up with her own decorations and personal preferences. The other had been converted to an office space, with various small work stations and her own large desk. A connecting door existed between the two, newly cut out and adapted to the need. She was the only one who could access that door to go from quarters to office, for it remained locked at all times unless she said otherwise.
However, she was now walking the base as she headed for the Infirmary. Those who recognized her from her past assignment here gave nods of greeting, and she returned the gestures. Arriving at Medical, Taavis walked inside, her eyes glancing around and noting all the changes that had been made since last she was here. Doctor Williams was nothing if not efficient.
"Can I help you, Captain?" A younger woman in science blue approached.
"I am here for my transfer physical, Lieutenant." Explained Taavis. "Having been reassigned to M-69 requires that I be examined and cleared for duty."
"Of course, Captain. Have a seat," the woman motioned towards a biobed in a corner. "I'll let the Doctor know you're here."
"Thank you." Taavis moved over near to the bed, but she did not sit. Instead, she clasped her hands behind her back and stood casually, her mind on a myriad of other concerns.
The young Nurse turned and walked to the Office popping her head in the door "Excuse me Doctor Williams, Captain Taavis is here for her transfer physical" she explained.
Ramvek got up from his stool "Thank you Nurse, I will be along presently" he replied as he grabbed his scanner putting it in his pocket and headed out into Sick Bay proper. Walking over to Taavis "Welcome back to M-69, it is good to see you again" he stated with a smile offering his hand "I understand congratulations are in order on your promotion."
Taavis accepted, and returned the handshake with warmth. Despite her more controlled discipline these days, she was still the same old Taavis who believed that emotions were to be experienced and controlled, not forced into captivity. "Thank you, Doctor," she gave a slight grin. "It is agreeable to see you again, as well. As for the promotion, thank you on that, too. Not what I had expected but welcome nonetheless. I'm glad to see you've turned this Infirmary into quite the medical facility. Not that I had any doubts that that would happen."
"Thank you Taavis, that means a lot coming from you. It would not have been possible to make these changes without my excellent Staff and their support; not to mention Doctor Hiri and Nurse Stone's commitment" Williams replied with a smile "Now if you would like to recline on the Bio-bed we will have a look at you."
"Of course," Taavis replied. Mounting the bed and swinging her legs up, Taavis lounged back as the head of the bed was raised for her to sit up. She relaxed and allowed her body to do the same. "I never met Hiri directly, but had always heard good things. I just hope those I recruit for the Fleet Operations department will be as motivated as your people. Having a staff that is on point does make life less difficult."
"Hiri is a very accomplished Doctor; matter of fact she oversaw Medical before I arrived" Ramvek stated as he grabbed the scanning device from his pocket then paused momentarily at Travis' last statement "I agree having an accomplished Staff does make my life much easier and I am sure you will have your new Department running like a well oiled machine in no time. "
Taavis gave a nod. "That is the goal, Doctor. Speaking on this brings to mind a query. How well do you know Captain O'Connell? Is he a level-headed commander, or more gung-ho, as the Human saying goes."
Williams stopped scanning Taavis and thought for a moment "Not sure honestly; I only met the Captain once when he came to me for medical supplies for a Mission. Although he did seem to be quite polite and more of a gentleman than someone who is rough around the edges, if that is any indication" he replied not sure if his answer was any help or not.
Taavis ran that through her mind, liking the sound of it. "Curious. It will be on me to discern whether or not those were needs, or if he is a man who prefers to heal and not hack. With the volatile situation out in this region we need personnel who are not trigger happy." She gave a full grin at that. "Apologies. Not trying to put you on the spot, Ramvek. Or, do you prefer Doctor over being addressed common?"
Williams answered her as he completed his scans of her anatomy "Ramvek is fine given the situation; after all you are my Superior Officer Captain" he replied with a big grin "I would think there is an upcoming conversation between yourself and Captain O'Connell sometime soon; if I'm not being too nosey."
"Not at all, Doctor." Taavis said. "Yes, I would like to meet him when he is available. He is trusted enough to command a starship, and I like to be able to have those under my command feel comfortable. I know Captain Bjorgo, have met him, and a personal touch with Captain O'Connell could benefit us both."
"Like I mentioned, I am sure you will have your command running efficiently soon" as he paused for a moment "Anyway, having checked you over I am pleased to report you are in top physical shape. Everything seems as it should be given your hybrid physiology. Do you have any medical questions or concerns for me."
As she answered, Taavis swung her legs over the side of the biobed and got to her feet, straightening her uniform. "None that I am conscious of. Thank you for your time, Doctor. I hope my presence didn't take away from your day." She gave another slight grin. After all the years of letting her emotions show occasionally, reinforcing her Vulcan discipline had been a chore. She thought she had had it under control, but now that she was back on M-69 it seemed that her old ways were trying to claw their way to the surface. Who was she to stop them? "You are a credit to your profession, Ramvek."
Williams smiled "Thank you Taavis and if you should ever have any questions or concerns, or if you need any medical attention please feel free to stop into Sick Bay" he stated with sincerity "And please have a wonderful rest of your day."
"You, as well," she said. Taavis, now finished, gave a nod of thanks and departed the Infirmary.
