Station Post #4. A quick check-up

Posted on Tue Dec 5th, 2023 @ 7:39am by Lieutenant JG Ellie Kees-Odak (Veran-Dallas) & Lieutenant Commander Ramvek Williams M.D.

Mission: Character Development 2023
Location: Infirmary
Timeline: Morning after return to the station

Having had a restful night’s sleep, Ellie made her way to the Infirmary to check in with Doctor Williams. After recent events he had said he wanted to see her, so she made a point of stopping by.

“Good Morning” Ellie smiled as she greeted the medical staff. “Doctor Williams wanted to see me.”

Doctor Williams walked into Sick Bay just in time to hear Ellie's salutation the his Staff "Good morning Lieutenant and how are you feeling this morning" he inquired "Long time no see" as he broke into a smile happy to see Ellie looking quite good considering yesterday.

Ellie grinned she liked Ramvek. “I feel fine, or should I say we feel fine.” She motioned to her rounded stomach which was more or less getting bigger day by day. “Four whole months in and counting.”

"I am pleased to hear that and glad you stopped by so I can have a look at you after your experience yesterday" Williams commented "We want to make sure the twins are doing as good as their Mother seems to be doing."

Ellie nodded. “I haven’t noticed anything worrying, the twins are moving so I’m guessing they’re okay.”

"I am sure everything is fine, hop up here and we'll have a look" he replied standing by the Bio-bed.

Ellie smiled and hopped up onto the biobed as Ramvek had requested. “I’ll admit I’m nervous.”

"Lay back and relax" Ramvek commented with a grin as he grabbed his scanner and scanned Ellie from head to toe, paying special attention to her baby area, watching the monitor the entire time. "Everything looks normal; your blood pressure is slightly elevated but that could be the nerves kicking in" Williams assured her.

Ellie nodded and smiled, relieved that all was progressing as it should be. “To be honest I wasn’t that afraid once Hadah revealed herself to me, she told me not to be afraid.”

"Spiritual encounters have been known to have very positive effects on the Physiology; calmness and serenity is far better than anxiety and angst" Ramvek explained "And of course much better for your babies health as well."

“Well it certainly helped my serenity that’s for sure” Ellie smiled warmly. “How much longer will I be safe to go on away duty? I know there’ll come a point where I won’t be able to.”

Williams thought for a brief moment "Every woman is different of course, but when you start your third Trimester then I would stay on the Base. Even though a human women's pregnancy lasts about nine months, it has been my experience the babies will be born when they are good and ready to do so regardless of any timetable" he explained with a smile.

Ellie nodded. “Of course. I wasn’t sure with twins that’s all. Not that I’m planning on racing off station again anytime soon.”

"That is probably a good course of action on your part. I think you will find the more developed the twins become the less energy you are going to have; extra rest would be most beneficial to both you and your unborn children" Ramvek concluded hoping she would heed his comments.

Ellie nodded. “I will need your advice, that’s a promise. I plan on being a model patient.”

Ramvek smiled "Good, that will go a long way in your children being born healthy. But please do not get hung up on being a model parent and cause yourself under stress and frustration" he replied.

“I’ll do my best” Ellie smiled warmly. “I’m just wondering how I’ll manage two babies at once.”

"I am sure you will. As far as two babies are concerned I am very confident that Lieutenant Yova will be ready and willing to help you out when he can" Ramvek replied "When he's on duty you could hire a Nanny to help out for the first six months or so."

“We could, but I think I’d feel guilty doing that” Ellie frowned thinking about it. “We chose to have a family, I always wanted children so I should be there to look after them.”

Ramvek thought that perhaps he had just stepped over the line "Yes of course, whatever you and your husband decide since it is your family" he replied.

Ellie noticed the change. “Ohh Doctor...I didn’t mean to sound like I was disapproving of your suggestion, it’s a good one. That’s just me, I know I’ll have to use the station nursery at some point if I want to carry on with my duties, it’s just how I feel.”

"Ellie you should do what you feel is best, regardless of what others tell you. [long sigh] I do tend sometimes to stick my nose where it doesn't belong.....but it's only because I care about my Patients" Ramvek explained with a smile.

“I know you care Ramvek” Ellie smiled warmly. “It’s what makes you the wonderful doctor you are.”

"Thank you Ellie, I really appreciate your kind words" Ramvek replied with sincerity in his voice.

“I’m just being honest, and you deserve the praise.” Ellie smiled warmly.

Ramvek was getting a little embarrassed by the accolades but appreciated them nonetheless less; smiling "Thank you....do you have any other things on your mind concerning your pregnancy" he inquired with a smile.

“Ohh no, thank you” Ellie shook her head. “I should be heading to the science lab anyway.” With a smile and a nod she headed on her way.
