Station Post # 3 " No Long Goodbyes for me."

Following the official state funeral for one of Starfleets finest Croesus remained behind and studied over his fathers body inside the sealed photon tube. Leaving tomorrow for the month long trip back to Earth.

But seeing Captain Shauna Callaghan Croesus approached her.

" Hello Captain I am Croesus Rivers."

“Croesus, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you” Shauna offered a respectful nod and smile. “Your father spoke of you, he was very proud of you.”

" Thank you Captain. About that there is something I should let you know. Dear old Dad asked me to bring something last month."

Shauna looked at Croesus curiously. “He did?”

" My visit was not to be a funeral. Deke asked me to come to be his best man. Dad never got a chance to propose did he?" Croesus asked.

“Propose!” Shauna was shocked, she had no idea Deke had been planning to ask her to marry him. “He err...no, he didn’t.”

Croesus frowned and then snidely joked " I guess you will not be my new Mother."

“I had no idea...” Shauna paused to look at Croesus. “I may not be related to you, or married into your family Croesus, but it would be my honour to be someone you could come to, or call, if you ever need it. If your father was alive I know now that it’s what he would have wanted.”

" I appreciate that Captain. As a matter of fact I could use a favor. I would like to ask for a position on this base, for a while at least. Any chance you could approve that?" Croesus asked.

“I most certainly can, we have positions that need filling so I’ll arrange it with Commodore Sureth for you. What about your family? Will you be bringing them here to be with you?”

" I certainly hope so. But my spouse has her own career." Croesus replied.

“I’m sure we can arrange something” Shauna smiled warmly. “I’ve no doubt she’d prefer to be here with you.”

" The further from Romulus the better. Thanks...Mom." Croesus replied.

" I plan to launch Dads remains tomorrow if you wish to come with me?" Croesus added.

Shauna nodded and offered a warm smile. “I’d like that Croesus. I need to say a proper goodbye.”

Croesus nodded as he wanted to get this done as possible as well.

Leaving with Shauna both he and she walked down to the Morgue and then had the torpedo tube sent to the firing control room.

" Ready to fire when you give the word Commander Croesus," the Lieutenant on duty stated.

Croesus looked to Shauna.
" Will you do the honors Captain Callaghan?"

Shauna nodded even though she was surprised that there was no ceremony arranged, but if that was how Croesus wished it then that was how it would be. “Goodbye Deke.” She looked towards the Lieutenant. “Fire when ready Lieutenant.”

" Firing now."

A swift launch of the photon torpedo tube exited the station and quickly vanished from visual range toward a distant star that had ironically just formed inside the Sagitarrius A arm.

" Well I could use a drink. You up for one too Captain?" Croesus asked.

“Definitely, a strong one.” Shauna gave a nod of her head sand motioned Croesus to follow her. “I’ll show you one of the best bars on the station, then we can toast to Deke’s memory.”

" And to my future." Croesus replied.

Shauna smiled and nodded before leading the way, this was one day she wanted to put behind her.
