CAPERNUM: {CD&MISSION} On Duty
Location: Main Engineering

Lieutenant Ken Kudo stood inside the horseshoe shaped work area for the power allocation to all systems aboard. There were moveable stools if one needed to sit, or preferred to, and the stations were all along the wall, with a central island schematic showing the bird's eye view of Capernum. It was a smaller island than the 'pool'table' out near the warp core but that did not matter much to those who worked in here every day. With Capernum cruising along at warp four, the ship was quiet and thrumming with power. There was a bleep from his PADD, so Ken picked it up and looked. Hmm. A science officer was being assigned to engineering. At the request of the officer. Kudo scrolled a smidge, then tapped the key for the personnel file. It came up with a picture of the officer being scrutinized and for whatever reason Ken did not expect to be slightly surprised by the image. The spots along her brow and neck told him what species she was so his eyes went to the species line, with the word "joined" next to the species designation: Trill.
Jynxza Dahl, Trill "joined", science officer with marks in many disciplines, and then he read as he scrolled, seeing that she had tested out of engineering, Ops management, Flight Control, Security, and a few others. She had been certified to serve in all the departments listed due to her Symbiote's memories and a long life. It was noted that she should have, and could have, graduated at the top of her class. Instead, the suspicion was that she had purposefully slacked off enough to not be student numero uno. The head Academy Counselor had noted that in her opinion, Jynxza had felt it was unfair to her classmates to use her advantages to take away from all their hard work. So, she flubbed things, did not turn in assignments on occasion; minor things to keep her grade down enough to graduate no higher than fourth in the class. Which is where she was when she got her Academy commission, and Starfleet gave her Lieutenant JG right out of the gate.
Kudo was satisfied with the choice by T'Pri, putting his mark of approval on sending the woman to Engineering to work. There were a handful of dedicated science officers in engineering, that worked here every day, adding to the knowledge and efficiency of Capernum's engineering staff. Seeing his response had been viewed, Ken set his PADD aside and got back to work checking readings. After checking a few things and assigning people to see to them, Ken was suddenly aware of a person standing next to him. Looking to his left, there she was. Her image in her file did ner no justice as he saw the live action version. "Hello. Lieutenant Dahl, I take it."
Jynxza gave a beaming smile, like a kid who had just found a new candy shop. "Yep. But, please call me Jynxza, Sir. Jynxza," she pointed at her own face before the hand went down to waste level and she pointed towards her belly. "Dahl."
Ken gave a grin at that. "Noted, Jynxza. Have a look around at the various stations, familiarize yourself, then come back to me when you've completed your own tour."
"Cool." Jynxza said, turning away from him and moving around this area, then going out to main engineering and having a walkabout. Right around half an hour later she came up on Kudo's left again. "Seen it all, Sir." She announced. "What's next, hopscotch with the Pakled?"
Several officers around the power allocation alcove had to press their lips to keep from openly smiling, some choking down laughs which came out as snickers, and others looking at her as if she had just committed blasphemy.
Kudo, realizing he had a firecracker in his presence, slid right into the game. "I don't think he knows how to play hopscotch, Lieutenant Jynxza. Would you like me to assign you to teach him?" He gave a dramatic pause before adding to what he was saying. "Right here, right now?"
Jynxza, detecting that she was now in a battle of wits with this fine looking member of Asian humanity, decided to rein it in a bit. "Now is not good for me, Sir." She patted her belly. "Gas." ~Couldn't help yourself, could you?~ she thought to herself, realizing that the last word and action were thrown in for humor. ~Slow your roll, girl. You just met him~
Giving a nod, remaining stoic, Kudo pointed to the island with his eyes before they went back to her. "Read the charts, assign maintenance, Lieutenant Jynxza."
"Aye, Sir." Moving a half step forward, abdomen now lightly touching the outside edge of the island, Jynxza began to read what was going on with power flow all over the ship. A gold rectangle appeared overtop the rest of the readings, shrank down a bit and framed a section of Capernum.
"That's your section, today, Jynxza." Ken said from her right, seeing her glance over at him before her eyes went back to the now assigned area.
"Lieutenant Kudo, it's cargo bays and storage."
"Boring, right?" Ken asked, watching as she looked at him and nodded yes. "Sucks doesn't it? Welcome to engineering Lt. Jynxza. Get to it." Kudo then walked away to go confer with another officer.
Jynxza formed a grin on her face as her eyes went back to her section. Working with Mister Kudo was looking to be quite the adventure. Her mind now back on work, Jynxza ran diagnostics and made notations to work teams as the day went on.
