Capernum: Distress Beacon
Posted on Wed Apr 23rd, 2025 @ 6:00pm by Captain Rogue "Ro" Green {Meji Master} {Flt. Cpt.} & Lieutenant JG T'Pri
Mission:
CAPERNUM: {CD&MISSION} On Duty
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: Current
ON:
The USS Capernum plowed through space at light speed, a casual warp four as she raced towards her destination; the Rython system on the fringe of Federation space. Many of the star systems out this way had been logged, and probes had been sent out to each to gather cursory sensor data on each, but beyond that it was a wilderness of unknowns.
"Captain," T'Pri said, spinning her chair enough to look over at her CO. "Picking up a distress beacon. No message, just the beacon. It is faint but consistent."
Green stood up from her chair and walked over to the SCI I station, looking over the Vulcan's shoulder. "How far from our current location?"
T'Pri pointed casually at a small monitor on the wall. "Approximately three light years. Here, Captain." The coordinates for the beacon she pointed out showed it was still ahead of them, but on a path to starboard that would take them further away from Rython.
Green looked at the data, her mind set to answer the distress beacon. There was no other choice for either Starfleet, or the Meji. "No transmissions other than the beacon?"
"None, Captain." Looking at the Captain, T'Pri waited to see what the orders would be.
Ro turned away from SCI as she faced Bridge forward. "Helm, tie in with Lieutenant T'Pri and alter course to bring us to that beacon. Make it so." She saw FC adjusting course, announcing that it had been done and they were on course. Green looked back to T'Pri. "Let me know the moment you determine what that beacon is, and where it came from?"
"Aye, Sir."
Stepping away, Green began to meander around the Bridge. After a while, being who she was, sitting in the captain's chair got old fast. All reports had been seen to and signed off on. This was the time when captains had very little to do in the way of duty, other than being in command and completely responsible for the crew under their command. She, as Captain, was responsible for the actions of the crew under her command. One thing Ro had noted while looking at the beacon data was that the beacon had come from a Federation ship registry for a free trader. She found that perfect since Capernum needed something to break them in as a crew, to bring them closer together. A little repair and care for Federation citizens always worked well for that. Minutes from now they would know what they would be dealing with.
