Peel Post - Didn't See This Coming

Now that the Peel was on it's way back to M-69 Captain O'Connell finally had the chance to go over some reports that had been neglected the past couple of days due to the mission. Working away reading and signing off on reports and sending on only those to the Commander that needed her attention or was information worthy.

Suddenly Jamie was interrupted " Captain a call is come in for you marked your eyes only Sir" Communications informed him.

Wondering who could be calling him "Send it to my Ready Room if you would please" Jamie replied having his curiosity peaked. Moments later a face came up on the screen she had not expected to see "Admiral Stone what do I owe the pleasure" he inquired having many different things racing through his mind all at once. Was it something to do with what the Ferengi had said....something to do with the mission or was he being transferred for some unknown reason.

"Captain O'Connell so nice to see you again" Stone stated then grinned seeing him somewhat tense "You can relax Jamie this is nothing to do with you personally."

Letting out a mental sigh while relaxing somewhat "That's good to know. I haven't heard from you in awhile" he replied trying his best to smile after such an exhausting mission.

"Point taken Captain. The reason for my contacting you is wanting to know what cosmetic changes the have made to the Peel, aside from having a kitchen in your quarters of course, if any at all" Stone inquired.

Thinking for a few moments "The only ones I can think of is at Command. I wasn't comfortable having only one chair at the conn; I wanted the Counselor and my First Officer on either side of me for communication purposes instead either one of them being elsewhere on the Bridge" he explained wondering where this was going.

"Ok, that's an easy fix" Stone replied with a grin "I can see the wheels turning in your head so I suppose you're wondering what this is all about."

Jamie grinned back "Well yes, the thought had crossed my mind" he replied very curious now that his interest had been peeked.

"When will you be returning to the Base from your current mission" Stone asked "And speaking of your mission how did that go."

"We'll be back to M-69 in three days and as far as the mission went, we were able to help Valdaron despite a couple of hiccups" he replied but not really wanting to go into detail with the Admiral at this moment "You'll be getting a full report from me in the coming days which will explain the mission in detail."

"Yes I'm sure I will. Anyway to satisfy your curiosity I'll let you in on a little secret and please inform your Crew for obvious reasons when I tell you the news" Stone stated.

"So why all the cloak and dagger; with respect Admiral please just come out with it" O'Connell replied.

"Only the top Brass at Star Fleet know about this for security purposes but I wanted you to be aware of what's coming" he replied then went on "Five days from now a new and improved Saber Class Ship will arrive at M-69 with a skeleton Crew aboard and one of the Crew will be added to your Crew permanently....that will be a QSD Engineer. The new Peel is slightly larger than your current ship and is equipped with a Quantum Slipstream Drive. Star Fleet's feeling is since your Ship is on the Frontier of space it needs to be able travel further but faster so you're not away from the Base too long. Also knowing ahead of time your Crew can starting packing their things up. The Crew that arrives will assist you in moving your personal belongings over to the new Ship which will be fully stocked for immediate departure; should the need arise" Stone concluded with a smile before continuing "Also the your old Ship will be decommissioned immediately; the new one will bear the same name and registry number so we won't be adding the 'A', in case you're wondering.

Hearing the information and trying to process it all "We certainly didn't see this coming" Jamie replied a little stunned at the news "And yes that will save on a lot of paperwork and eliminate any confusion."

"You're an excellent Captain and you have an exemplary Ship and Crew which have exceeded our expectations greatly. We feel this new ship will help even more" Stone replied.

"Thank you Admiral for your continued support and confidence in this Ship and her Crew" then Jamie paused "And of course be taking her out for our own shakedown so everyone can get used to all the new systems aboard" the Captain replied still a little bit in shock from the news.

"I would expect nothing less Captain" Stone replied "If you need anything please don't hesitate in letting me know and I look forward to your report concerning your last Mission. Now if you'll excuse me I have another meeting to get to. Stone out."

Captain O'Connell sat back in his chair still trying to digest the good news.....a little larger.....faster USS Peel. After savoring the moment Jamie tapped his comm "Commander Devroe please come to my Ready Room" came the order.

Walking in "Captain you wanted to see me Sir" Angel inquired wondering what was going on.

"Yes please have a seat" as she sat "I just received a call from Admiral Stone, five days from today a brand new and improved Peel will be coming to M-69. At that time we'll transfer everyone's belongings to the new Ship" Jamie explained then went into more detail about the new Peel.

Listening to what was being shared Angel replied "I can hardly believe we're getting a new Ship already and faster one at that. Our travel times should be cut down drastically" as she paused "Little bit bigger quarters would also be welcomed."

"That's what I'm hoping for too; larger quarter for the Crew would be nice. Also I hope to squeeze in some time to see Shauna and see how's she's doing since being joined" Jamie responded.

"We'll be back to the Base in three days and the new Ship arrives in five so that should give you a couple of days with her" then Angel paused "By the time we get back the Crew should have everything just about packed up" she commented "Jamie you take the time you need with Shauna; I can oversee things here."

"I would really appreciate that Number One" Jamie replied as he stood "Well I guess we better inform the Crew."

Smiling "It's the least I can do since you did save me from a fate worse than death" she stated as the two Officers left for the Bridge to give the Crew the good news.
