CAPERNUM: On The Edge

Mission:
Stellar Problems
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current
ON:
Captain Rogue Green sat in the Ready Room, at her CO's desk, going over reports from the numerous starships assigned to this sector of space. Ships that used M-69 as a port-of-call but, were not attached directly to the facility. They had their own missions to contend with from Starfleet Command. That was where the USS Capernum sat, as well. M-69 was the home port for Capernum, and Capernum was tasked with starbase defense when needed. But, as a Fleet Captain overlooking all Starfleet assets in this sector in regards to starships, the USS Capernum had to be free to move about and not sit idle. In-between fleet business for the fleet designated in this sector, Capernum did as everyone else did; exploration and patrol. M-69 had the ships it needed to defend itself on the average but when extraordinary circumstances reared their ugly head, Capernum would respond and beat feet for the starbase. Currently, there was no need to be alongside M-69, and therefore, USS Capernum continued on her leisurely course at warp two, scanning and logging data for this sector. The door chime sounded so Ro looked towards the door as she sat back in her chair to give her eyes a break from reading. "Come in."
Captain Taavis, her spine as rigid as ever, entered the Ready Room and angled her path to the CO. "Good morning, Captain. I hope I'm not interrupting." Anyone who knew her well could see when Taavis was being lighthearted. Certain markers to her eye set and her facial muscles were subtle reminders.
Green, seeing her Number One approaching, got up from her chair and came around her desk to stand and face the one person she trusted most. "Trust me, Number One, some interruptions are called for," she said with a slight grin. Both women came to a stop at proper distance and remained at military posture, even if it was relaxed somewhat. "I presume you came here for a reason, not just a chat?"
Over the past couple of months Taavis had been relying on her Vulcan discipline, to keep it as strong as her conviction that she was also a creature of emotion. To deny that was illogical given her ancestry. However, when alone with people she trusted, Taavis would allow the veil of discipline to relax. She and T'Pri had been spending a great deal of time together, and through that blossoming friendship Taavis had found firm footing in self control and a return to logic even though both Vulcans knew that logic was not always the proper answer. "Perhaps both, Captain. I came to inform you personally that the Capernum is approaching the coordinates you set for a destination. At the very edge of Federation space, as you commanded."
Green could sense there was more to her visit, but she acquiesced to the explanation to allow Taavis the opportunity to bring it up herself. "I see." She looked her Number One in the eye. "If there is something bothering you, Captain Taavis, please give voice to it."
Taavis waited a moment as she kept her eyes locked onto Ro's. "Very well," she finally said after a few moments. "We are on the very edge of Federation space. And, being this far out, we are fairly close to the star system known as Harboris. The capitol being the planet Dark Harbor. Neither of those places are within Federation borders, therefore, we have no right to push others around out here beyond the legal border."
"Are you suggesting something, Captain?" Green kept herself completely calm, but her query was meant to determine if Taavis felt that her commitment to her duties and position were not personal.
"Not at all, Captain. Merely curious." Waiting a respectful moment, Taavis then continued. "Putting Starfleet aside, as Meji, I am curious to know if this may turn into a Meji situation while Capernum waits at the sidelines."
Green gave a grin and nodded a few times. "No, that is not the intention. Either way, for us, everything is a Meji situation as much as it is a Starfleet one. We are here, Number One, in case our away team needs support. What's it been, a few weeks they've been on mission and still haven't located Ainkara?"
"Correct, Captain. Seventeen days, with regular check-ins from Mister Resch. Loewen and Holbrook broke off from him and they are conducting seperate, coordinated efforts to locate our people. He has stated that Commander Loewen is sure that Ainkara isn't the only missing officer on Dark Harbor." Taavis explained. "Through the use of his spooky powers he has sensed the presence of a few. His words, Ro, not mine."
That brought another grin to Green's face. "So, Griffon thinks we're spooky?" She giggled. "A play on words, I'm sure." Dropping the lighthearted stance, Ro began to query. "I've heard of Dark Harbor a few times. Rumors and what not. I don't know much about it. Do you, Taavis?"
Knowing Green the way she did, Taavis knew this next round of questions would be used to provide Ro with enough information that she could form a few strategic ideas on how best to approach Dark Harbor and what was going on there. She needed to be truthful with her Commanding Officer and allow her to formulate whatever contingencies she felt safe with. "I know it well, Captain. During my service to the Vulcan Security Bureau, I was sent there several times to recover rogue agents." It was her turn to break propriety and give Green a grin. "No pun intended."
Green smiled back. "Who's manning the Bridge?"
"Commander Sheyla."
Ro tapped her combadge. "Green to Sheyla." The Andorian officer responded promptly. "Commander Sheyla, drop us out of warp at the designated coordinates. All stop and continue to hold the conn while I confer with Number One." The orders were acknowledged. "Thank you, Commander. Green, out."
Tapping the badge off, Green then looked to Taavis, motioning for her to sit in front of the CO's desk as she made her way back around it. Once they were both settled Captain Green looked to her Number One. "Tell me everything you know."
