Captain O'Connell exited the Lift and went directly to Main Engineering hoping for some sort of valid explanation as to why the Ship went wonky. Entering he saw Lieutenants Flannery and D'Nall at the QSD control area looking at the screens and talking. "Captain on deck" one of the Engineers called out as everyone snapped to attention.
"As you were" O'Connell stated in a loud voice making his way over the QSD controls "Mr. D'Nall report" came the order.
Looking up seeing the Captain "Sir, we've found the issue with the QSD" as he paused a moment "I ran a level one diagnostic" then he paused once again "The Quantum Field Focus Controller is grossly below Star Fleet specs; it would appear that may have been missed during installing the drive and all it's associated systems" D'Nall explained.
"So.....is this something you can rectify now so we can continue on with the shakedown" O'Connell inquired hoping for the best.
"Yes but it may take a few hours to complete depending how stubborn the QFFC wants to be" D'Nall replied "I know that's probably not what you want to hear but I can fix the problem and it will be a good teaching time for Lieutenant Flannery as well."
"Good. I'll leave you gentleman to it then and please keep me apprised of your progress" the Captan ordered with a smile.
"As you wish Sir" he answered then went back to work. Meantime O'Connell left for the Bridge.
[Deck 1 - Bridge]
Exiting the Lift Captain O'Connell walked over to the conn "Commander report" he ordered as Devroe stood and returned to her chair with the captain taking the center seat.
"We're currently at warp six resuming the same course was before Captain" the Commander replied.
"Very good. So you're all aware there's an issue with one of the slipstream controllers. Lieutenants Flannery and D'Nall are trying to correct the problem so until I hear otherwise we'll remain at our current speed and trajectory" he explained "Lieutenant Sayvek, have you been able to find out anything else from a science perspective?"
" The ships slipstream drive has surpassed what we thought was possible. " Sayvek replied.
“Sounds promising albeit the glitches” Sarissa smiled as she looked towards O’Connell.
"Yes it does as soon as we get all the bugs worked out of it, but I guess that's why we're out here" O'Connell answered with a grin.
" A secondary component of this Captain is the artificial intelligence that was built into this new drive system. It.is capable.of scanning the slipstream with greater accuracy . Most intriguing." Sayvek added.
Hearing Sayvek's discovery wasn't really something O'Connell wanted to hear and was a little unsettling. He had heard horror stories of Star Fleet trying to use AI to control their ships previously which never ended well. Any comments he decided was best to keep to himself.
{Two Hours Later}
"Captain O'Connell, Lieutenant D'Nall, we've reconfigured the offending system for the QSD and have run various simulations; you should be all set if you'd care to activate the slipstream again. We'll keep a close eye on systems just to be sure they are operating per specs Sir."
"Excellent Lieutenant; well done to you and your team Captain out." Looking over to his Number One "Let's try this again shall we? Black Alert" the Captain stated as the system sounded "Helm initiate slipstream. Mr. Sayvek keep a close eye on your readings and let me know the moment something is amiss."
"Aye Captain.....initiating slipstream now" Ensign Hanes replied. This time the Peel went smoothly to slipstream with the ship feeling much more stable this time.
" All scanners show nominal readings to the QSD Captain." Sayvek replied.
Letting out a small sigh of relief "Thank you Lieutenant; that is good news" O'Connell stated with a smile.
Sayvek turned back to his monitor and saw with great clarity the projected course ahead and hoped this time his internal inertial dampeners kept him from vomiting.
{One Hour Later}
O'Connell had just finished going over some reports that required his attention. Slipping the PaDD backing into his chair compartment he ordered "Helm drop us out of slipstream and take us to warp factor six please......steady as she goes"
"As you wish Captain...dropping out of slipstream....warp six Sir....maintaining current heading" Ensign Hanes replied.
Tapping his comm "Lieutenant D'Nall we've dropped out of slipstream so how are we looking down there" he inquired.
"Good Captain; it looks like the adjustments we made did the trick and the QSD appears to be in excellent shape as I would expect it to be" D'Nall replied pleased he was able to get things to where they should have been in the first place.
"Thank you all for your attentiveness today, it looks like slipstream was a success" the Captain stated as Beta shift rolled in "Lieutenant Mercer we're at warp six, please maintain the current heading until zero eight hundred tomorrow."
"Aye Captain and have a good evening" as Mercer sat in the now vacant command chair. Soon the shift cahange was complete with everyone on Beta Shift being brought up to speed on the days events.
