Dinner with dad

Posted on Sat Sep 20th, 2025 @ 10:47pm by Lieutenant Commander David Wallace

Mission: CAPERNUM: {CD&MISSION} On Duty
Location: The Crimson Sisters Restaurant
Timeline: 1730 hours

On:

Jason arrived at the restaurant as he'd planned, he hadn't had the chance to talk with the Admiral, his father since his own arrival a few days ago, he had made plans as it was a rare chance to sit and talk. As he approached he was a lone security guard standing at the door which he opened as Jason approached, Jason just nodded politely.

the restaurant was empty not much surprise in reality, David had gotten the impression his father wanted to talk shop over dinner which David wasn't too keen on, then again he was now a command officer, even if it was a garrison ship. He walked over to meet with his father, they shook hands and took their seats.

"I haven't closed this place in a long time, but seeing that Mr Han was still here running the place I asked a favour and he graciously agreed." The Admiral said

"I've never been here, what's good on the menu?" David asked

"Black pepper and and bean sauce beef, the fried rice is always well prepared too." The admiral said

David sat back, "Sounds good, so why the empty restaurant?"

"Unfortunately there's no separate dining room here ad Mr Han is an old friend." Jarred said too his son.

"Ahh..." David said as an attractive woman sat down to glasses of scotch "I ship out at zero nine thirty, anything you want me to communicate to the Commodore?"

"I think I'll do that in person later on, with all of the local races setting up shop on the station I don't want something listened in on plus we need to talk shop of our own." the Admiral said picking up the glass

"Like?" David said looking at his fathers scarred face.

"Memphis Richards' people have been seen running a ship or two in and out of the Essary sector." The Admiral said bluntly

"I read he was nothing more than a Hermit on Campor, what changed?" David said

"It never really did, the ships were reported entering fully loaded and leaving largely empty, one report is why we're meeting in an empty restaurant." Jason pulled a pad from his coat pocket sliding it across the table to David.

The Admiral continued, "The one freighter arrived at Campor about six days with a passenger that has Starfleet in general throwing a fit, image three is the First Officer of the USS Olympia."

"Get me up to speed, I thought the Olympia was just a starfleet myth, a ship goes rogue and into hiding." David said with some confusion

"It's not a myth, I happened around the time of the bombing on Deep space five, it's always been believed that the bombing was tied to their defection, desertion, whatever you want to call it." Jarred said picking up his drink "We chased them for about three months when they vanished, we've always suspected they were destroyed, but after some other events including the discovery of an underspace network on this side of the galaxy their disappearance makes more sense."

"We haven't encountered a gateway or portal anywhere near the station, some weird wormhole but nothing that qualifies as a gateway that meets what I know of as an underspace gateway."

"We think it's on the far side of the Lagoon Nebula near the Meladus system, would your CO be adverse to a side trip with Cascade, if it was in the name of science?" The Admiral said.

"I think he'll be fine with it, what should I look for?" David said as a waiter walked out with their food.

The Admiral sat back, "I brief in your CO, I don't think this is going to turn into a thing, if the Olympia is in that sector I'll deploy a couple of ships if you hit paydirt call it in and go home."

David looked at his father, "Wasn't the Olympia a Galaxy class?"

"That's right, looks the line between the academy ghost stories and the truth aren't too blurred." Jarred said resuming eating.

David looked at his father "There's more too the story, what is it?"

"There was..." Jarred started with a mouth full of food "The Olympia was the other ship that was part of Admiral Layton's coup, when the Repulse tried to capture it using the command prefix codes on it, the command codes had been changed and they fled."

"Okay, so for the last twenty years they've been on the run in a sense, why wasn't there an attempt to chase...." David paused "The war...."

"Right, when we weren't fighting the Dominion there was squabbles between various admirals, a number of high tech thefts, endless finger pointing, it was almost amazing that we won the war the way we did, If Ryan had shot Layton when he had the shot instead of letting the drama play out I wonder what would have happened."

"Hang on Ryan?" David said

"Ryan Price, he goes back too the days of Jon Rittenhouse." Jarred said "I've never opened his file, the Olympia escaping always played on him, impacted his career for a bit, made the mess aboard the Resolution worse."

"Resolution..." David paused thinking "Wasn't that the high tech theft thing during the war? I don't remember seeing that name though."

"His role was removed from most of the files, so was a large number of other things..."

"Like?" David asked

"Neutral zone navigation hazard seven zero three." Jarred said

"That black hole?" David said

"It's not, part of the reason why I need you to investigate that star system, in and out." The admiral said.

David looked up "When this is over I assume there's more to talk about."

Jarred set his fork down, "When this is over it'll explain all of it."

End
