ON:

T'Pri sat in her chair while Yui stood to her right. Little Fox gazed all over the console, eyes wide with wonder, seeing all the readouts and monitors chock full of the magic of technology. As T'Pri was busy, Yui held the tricorder up before herself and opened it, seeing it come to life. Not letting her memory tell her things right off, Yui worked with the device to see what did what. She just hoped she did not break anything by doing so. Every time she would get so far in getting the thing to work right, she would tap the wrong thing and the tricorder would reset. She gave a light growl in her throat as she began again. Getting to that hitch again, her finger floated over the control pad as she tried to decide where she should go to the next step. A hand came in from her left, a finger pointing to a button with a yellow star on it. Looking over she saw T'Pri was the one helping her. The woman was hard to read, it was like looking at a living painting. "Thank you."

"You are welcome. Would it be easier if you could sit?" T'Pri asked.

"Yes."

T'Pri got up and went over to a small storage chamber just to starboard of the main viewport, accessing the room and going inside. Coming back out she had a belt in her hand with a control device of some kind on it, and a disk shaped platform large enough for an adult humanoid to stand on with enough room for them to be shoulder width apart. Coming back over, T'Pri sat down after setting the disk flat on the deck, it having a padded interior surface while people stood on it to help with back strain while standing in place for a while.

"What's that?" Yui asked, curious as to what this thing did, and why T'Pri went and got it.

"This is a hover disk, Yui." Explained T'Pri. "Instead of taking up space with ladders, these allow crew to stand on them to reach higher places while working. Since it will hold a full grown adult, standing up, it is logical to assume that it will hold you while you sit on it."

Yui was thrilled. This thing was built like her eggpod. An anti-grav unit. "Let's see." Yui stepped into, and onto the disk, then sat down cross-legged, fitting perfectly within the rim of the disk. "I fit!" Yui said with a giggle.

"You should learn patience, Yui." T'Pri said, making a gesture that Yui should stand back up, which she did. "You need the belt to operate the disk. The control box." Putting the belt around Yui's waist, T'Pri snugged it enough not to slide off, weaving the long leftover portion for such a small body around the rest of the belt. "There. Now you have the belt and control. Be careful and test it at low height first. Also, it cannot completely tip to the side, there are safeties in place against that." As Yui sat back down on the disk and was busy examining the control box on the belt, T'Pri looked up over the top of her, catching the Captain with his chair turned slightly, watching them with interest. When her eyes met his he gave a nod of approval and a grin before facing forward again. This was why, after getting out to their post in the runabout, T'Pri had asked Sheyla if she could return to the ship and send another officer out. Sheyla did not mind. So, T'Pri beamed back, made the change, and went back to duty on the Bridge simply out of loyalty to Captain Loewen.

Figuring out the control box for the disk, Yui powered it up and then began to muck with the controls. She ascended about a foot off the deck, giggling, and then had the disk spin around once. "Wee..." she let out as it spun around and then stopped. She heard laughter and chuckles around the Bridge and spun her disk to face the center of the Bridge, all eyes on her and her new conveyance. She gave a pseudo-creeped out expression and then spun back to face SCI. More giggles. "Are they still watching?"

T'Pri actually felt like smiling at the girl but refrained. "Yes. But, they are going back to normal. Duty demands it. You, however, are a balm."

"A balm," Yui asked with a scrunchy, confused face.

"You being here, and your antics, have provided a break from the stress of being ever tense and awaiting the worst." T'Pri instructed even while she continued to monitor her own station. "You provided stress relief. Perhaps medicine is your destiny. And, a balm is a medicine applied to wounds in case you did not recognize the reference." She did not say 'in case you did not KNOW that', but gave Yui credit that perhaps she just did not understand why the reference was used.

Yui smiled at her new Vulcan friend. "You're so cool, T'Pri." She said that because of her willingness to engage her, and also because of the disk. This thing was going to prove to be fun. T'Pri handed Yui a PADD, and when she flipped it around to see what it contained, she saw it was instructions on how to use the tricorder. Her eyes went wide and were matched by another big smile. "Thank you!" She said with a whispered excitement, not wanting to bother the Captain.

T'Pri gave a slow nod to the thank you. "Now, learn your tricorder, apprentice. I have some files to log and I will not be able to chat for a few minutes."

Apprentice? T'Pri just called her apprentice! Yui was about to explode with happiness and excitement. I have a teacher! A Vulcan teacher! "I am honored you call me apprentice, T'Pri. I will study hard and not fail you."

"I have no doubts that you will be an excellent student," T'Pri said as she did not look at Yui but continued to access her station. "Of course, to be my student you will have to learn patience. Now, I need to see to my station. Being my student means you need to listen to what I say, not just hear it. Again, learn your tricorder and be silent while I work."

Yui realised she had been talking even after T'Pri had told her she would be busy. "Yes, teacher." Buckling down, Yui put her focus on the tricorder, following the instructions on how to use it and providing T'Pri the few minutes she needed to log her sensor reports. As T'Pri finished so did Yui. Setting the PADD on the edge of the station console, Yui accessed her tricorder and began to run some basic scans of the Bridge. In that scan time it showed her how the crew were all able to be tracked by their combadges in case they go missing. The combadge was also a bio-reader for Medical, a debit system to access their Federation credits to purchase things privately, and also could be used as a recorder, both audio and visual if set up right. All good things to know.

Time went on as the USS Capernum sat in her hole and continued to monitor the events around the station.
