Seeing to Cosmo/Finding Kami

Mission:
The Inner Flame
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: Current
ON:
Sitting in his chair, Captain Loewen glanced at the chrono above the main viewport, seeing that the Alpha shift was near its end. Sitting up, then getting to his feet, he gave orders. "Mister Resch, have Beta shift report for their shift. Choose a deck officer to run the Bridge while we all take a much needed break. Any issues, they call us immediately." He walked over to stand over Griffon.
"Will do, Sir." Griffon tapped keys and sent out the call for Beta shift to get to their stations. He too stood up.
Yui, hearing this from her place near to T'Pri, spun her disk around and floated over next to the door it had been brought out from. She landed it and stepped out after shutting it off, then removed the belt and set it in the center so that T'Pri could put it away. As she finished that she spun around to look to the other side of the upper Bridge, her papa setting his station to standby and standing up. She hurried over to his side as he joined the other two men. She did not say a word, simply took his hand and stood with him as he spoke to his friends. They conferred for a minute as Beta shift arrived and took over the stations.
Sean, seeing his Beta people arriving, spoke to main Shift. "Alphas, go take some relaxing downtime. That means get some rest. Naps, laying around, whatever. No booze or any other recreational substances. Dismissed." Letting other officers go first, the trio stepped into the lift together, shop talk being the theme of the discussion. Resch and Loewen stepped out of the lift at their destination deck, with the doors closing for Yui and her dad to get to their deck.
"Papa?" Yui said, looking up at him even as he looked down and raised his eyebrows to show her he had heard her. "Can we go see Cosmo? He needs our help."
"Damn," Kudo responded. Not at his daughter, but at the fact he had forgotten all about Ro's X-wing and Cosmo. "Thank you for reminding me, Little Fox. We'll go right now." He spoke to the computer and had the lift move to the deck for shuttle bay two. Once it arrived they both exited, no longer holding hands as they were in a bit of a hurry. Getting to the locked door into shuttle bay two, designated as a Meji space, Ken entered his code provided by his wife since he was a registered member of the Meji Order. The door slid open and, as they stepped within, the lights came up and the door shut behind them and locked. Seeing Ro's X-wing parked next to Sean's, they moved that way even as Yui was looking all around while doing so.
Yui's eyes caught sight of another BB-unit sitting off in the distance. It was not powered up and was leaning against a few crates over near to the machine shop for this shutttle bay. This BB droid was black and white where Cosmo was orange and white. "Papa, who's that?" She lifted her arm and pointed as they kept walking.
Kudo looked at his daughter, then followed her pointing, seeing who she was talking about. "That's Taavis's droid, or was. After her passing, and the droid was told of it, he simply shut down and hasn't powered up since."
"That is so sad, papa." Yui said in a mournful tone. "I hope Cosmo doesn't do that."
"He won't," Kudo replied. "We'll make sure of it." Getting to the fighter, Ken moved the cockpit ladder over and locked it in place. "Do you know the controls, Yui?" When she said she did, that mom had taught her some of it, Ken motioned for her to access the ladder. "Get up there and drop the lift for Cosmo's socket. I'll go grab some tools." He turned and hustled away.
Ascending the ladder, Yui remembered where mom had told her the camouflaged, touch activated release plate was located at. She ran her finger along that spot and, sure enough, there was a hiss of air as the sealed cockpit released and lifted open. The droid socket was normally controlled by the droid in it, but in those circumstances where the droid was damaged or their control system for the lift was, the pilot had a manual release in place. Yui reached in and hit the release, hearing the power activating Cosmo's lift, and seeing his domed head disappear into the hull as his body was descended to the deck.
Kudo, having gathered an engineer's vest with all the gadgets, and a grav cart, waited below. The lift came down and rested on the deck, with Cosmo in it, so Ken moved the cart next to the droid and began to try and maneuver the rotund droid onto it. He was almost there, and with Cosmo being round, getting a good grip and handhold was not working well in his favor. Then, as if Cosmo got lighter all of a sudden, he got the droid on the cart. That was when Kudo noticed that Yui had a hand on the side of Cosmo, and she had added a push to the job he had been doing. Quite a strong push at that. He decided not to call attention to it just now. "Thank you." Using the cart they got Cosmo out from under the X-wing and out into the open bay where Kudo could stand up when needed.
Yui was on the cart, too, riding next to Cosmo even as she began to use 'her' tricorder to scan the machine. They stopped next to a power supply station, with Kudo quickly finding and then affixing the proper cables for Cosmo. When dad told her to step back from Cosmo for a moment, she did so, with Ken activating the generator. All of Cosmo's lit areas immediately came to life, showing he was not too badly damaged. The droid 'sat up' straight, his dome aligning to center as he looked around in a panic.
"Oh no! Master Ro!" Cosmo cried out, obviously his last memory being the attack and abduction.
"Cosmo!" Yui jumped up on the cart and hugged the droid. "It's okay, you're safe! We're on USS Capernum."
With his droid brain reacting far faster than most other beings, Cosmo took that in and felt that much more secure for the information. "USS Capernum?" His eye focused on Yui. "So good to see you fully functional, Miss Yui." Hearing the movement behind himself his head spun around to look, seeing Kudo. "Master Ken. It is a relief to see you, Sir."
"Likewise, Cosmo." Kudo responded with a smile. "How are you feeling? Anything not connecting right?"
"One moment." Cosmo said, going quiet for about fifteen seconds as they saw his eye flashing quickly as he ran a diagnostic on himself. The red eye stopped blinking and flashing and he then focused on Ken again. "All systems nominal, Lieutenant."
"Yay!" Yui hopped in place once with a big smile, clapped her hands in joy, then gave the droid another hug.
Trading stories of what happened, the three of them worked for an hour to get things in order with both the droid and fighter. Kudo then gathered a tricorder and began to scan the X-wing a meter at a time, collecting data and evidence. While Ken was doing that, Yui had Cosmo come with her over to the sad looking, powered down droid. "Cosmo, is he okay or is he broken?"
"He felt he no longer had purpose with the demise of his master, so Banjo shut down." Cosmo informed her. If a droid could look sad, Cosmo was showing it in a metaphysical way. "I'm afraid he may never recover."
"What if he had a new master; a new purpose?" Yui asked. "Do you think that would offset his belief that he was no longer needed?"
Cosmo seemed to perk up at that idea. "Did you have someone in mind, Miss Yui? I cannot say for certain it would help but it would be worth trying. Of course, there is always a memory wipe and reprogramming."
"No!" Yui said quickly. "The only program I want changed is his name. from Banjo to Kami. K-A-M-I." Kami was the Japanese word for a deity, divinity, or spirit. It has been used to describe mind, God, Supreme Being, one of the Shinto deities, an effigy, a principle, and anything that is worshipped. Kami may, at its root, simply mean spirit, or an aspect of spirituality. "And," Yui continued. "I will be his new master."
"Outstanding, Miss!" Cosmo said with a joyous tone in his voice. "I shall endeavor to bring him around. Once done I shall upgrade his systems to match my own. His programming shall reflect you as his master, and his memory core shall remember Meji Taavis."
"Thank you." Said Yui.
With Cosmo now busy, Yui began to look around at all the gear in here for the Meji Order. She knew that both her parents were members, with mother being the founder. As she did that, Kudo continued his own investigation of the fighter, trying to find anything to lead him to his wife.
