Catching Up Time

Jamie contacted his daughter T'Lanna to meet for lunch on the Promenade to see how she was doing and have time to catch up on their lives. Walking the Promenade he saw his daughter waiting for him; he'd know that blonde hair anywhere as he approached her "Hi my Daughter" Jamie said with a grin rather enjoying hearing himself say that.

“Hello father!” T’Lanna smiled warmly giving Jamie a smile before offering a quick hug. “I’ve missed you while you’ve been off station. How went your mission?”

Being a little surprised at her show of affection, Jamie gladly accepted the gesture as he embraced T'Lanna "I've missed you as well. How about I fill you in on the details of my recent mission over lunch at O'Malley's" he inquired with a smile "My treat of course."

“I’d like that” T’Lanna nodded. “Sorry if I went a little overboard with the whole hug thing. I’m obviously enthusiastic.”

Jamie grinned "Not a problem; although you did catch me off guard I'm still wrapping my head around this whole having a daughter thing" he explained "I'll show you my favorite place to eat" as the two started walking while talking to their destination. "Here we are, O'Malley's Pub. It kind of reminds me of the Pubs back home in Ireland on Earth."

Walking in Jamie saw the proprietor "Mr. O'Malley nice to see you again" he commented with a smile.

"Captain O'Connell you as well, have seen you in quite awhile and who is this young lady with you" O'Malley responded.

"Yes where are my manners; this T'Lanna O'Connell my daughter" Jamie explained.

"I didn't know you had a daughter. Welcome Ms. O'Connell very nice to meet you."

“It’s nice to meet you too Mr O’Malley” T’Lanna smiled warmly. “Nice place you have here.”

"Thank you Miss; I've been behind a bar most of my life. So what I can get you two to drink" O'Malley responded.

Jamie thought a moment "I'll have a beer, whatever you have on tap is fine." then turning to T'Lanna "What would you like to drink?"

“I’ll have a Risan sunset please.” T’Lanna smiled.

O'Malley made their beverages and set them on the bar "Here you go; I'll send over the waitress to take your order."

Grabbing their drinks Jamie and T'Lanna walked to a table and sat before sipping their drinks "So to answer your question earlier our last mission went very well. Basically we went to a relatively new deep space habitat to help retrain some of their Crew" Jamie explained "It also was a very beautiful place inside."

“Wow, that sounds amazing” T’Lanna smiled. “I’m looking forward to hearing all about your career and what missions you’ve been on. I’m just starting out here I’ve barely started exploring yet.”

"Careful what you wish for T'Lanna, I could bore to tears for hours with all my stories" Jamie replied with a laugh "And speaking of you.....how are things going and what have you been up to."

“Actually it’s going great!” T’Lanna smiled. “The labs here are amazing! I need to pop in and see Doctor Williams as I’ve been mostly concentrating on my science duties rather than my medical ones.”

"That's really good to hear and I'm quite proud of you working in two different areas plus I'm sure the Doctor could use the extra hands" Jamie commented with a big proud smile "So are you maintaining any kind of off duty life?"

Lanna shrugged her shoulders. “Not a lot as yet, I don’t have any friends here yet and I do tend to like staying in of an evening. I love to curl up with a good book, or watch a movie.”

"There's nothing wrong with that but at some point you really should try and make some friends; just so you're not alone all the time when your off duty" Jamie suggested in a fatherly way "Especially when I'm away so much....I worry about you."

T’Lanna nodded. “I’ll try I promise.” She smiled warmly. “It just takes me a little time to fit into new places.”

They caught up for the next couple of hours when Jamie realized the time "As much as I hate to end our time together I have someone else to meet shortly" as Jamie stood "If you need anything please don't hesitate to reach out" he commented in a fatherly fashion.

“Oh I will, may I be nosey and ask who you have to meet?” She gave him a curious look.

"Yes, I'm meeting with my good friend Commander Devroe. We really haven't spoken in months since she gave up being the XO on the Peel for being XO on the Base; it'll be nice to catch up while I have the chance" then Jamie paused "And to further satisfy your curiosity we are just good friends" as he paused again "I do however have someone I've been seeing that I'm quite taken with so at some point I'd like you meet her" he explained.

T’Lanna smiled. “I’d like that very much. Say hello to the Commander for me when you see her.”

Jamie grinned "I certainly will" he replied just before giving T'Lanna a hug "I'll see you soon daughter."

Leaving O'Malley's, Jamie made his way to the second deck of the Promenade to meet up with Commander Devroe; it had been way to long since they had spoken and even longer since they had seen one another; he was almost nervous to meet.


Walking along the Promenade he spotted his good friend sitting in her usual spot at a table outside a cafe' "Commander Devroe nice to see you" Jamie stated with a big smile.

Seeing Jamie, Angel stood before walking over and giving him a big hug "It's been too long Captain O'Connell....please sit." as the two officers sat "Something to drink?"

"Yes, I'll take an Irish whiskey on the rocks please" Jamie told the waitress.

"I'll have another one of these" Angel commented then turned her attention to Jamie "How have you been.....I've really missed you Jamie."

"I've missed you as well and I've been busy but fine" then Jamie paused "I was very sorry to hear about you lady friend.....I would like to have been around to be with you."

Angel took a breath "It was a shock that's for sure and I had thought about calling you but I knew I needed to deal with the situation myself so I just threw myself into my duties" she explained.

"You seem to be doing better all things considered. So what's new and exciting in your life" Jamie inquired before taking a sip of his drink.

Angel grinned "Funny you should ask. What I'm about to share please don't repeat it to anyone" she admonished Jamie.

"Sounds cryptic....please continue" he responded with his curiosity being peaked.

"Well, a month or so ago a ship, the USS Dresden, reached out to M-69. The only problem is we could't find any record on that ship in our database. Under security they escorted their Captain to my Office so the Commodore and myself try to unravel the mystery" as she paused "This next thing will really grab you. Talking with Captain Jacobs we found out he was from year 2452 and had slipped through a temporal anomaly" Angel explained waiting for his reaction.

"WOW!! You know if it were anyone else sharing this with me I'd probably say they were lying but considering it's you....well......that must have been a shock" Jamie replied still finding it hard to believe.

"It was hard for me to believe at first but I could sense he was being very honest. Long story short between the Captain's XO, Sureth, and Captain Kingston they were able to reopen the anomaly and the Dresden returned back to its own timeline."

"That's good news but sorry I missed it" Jamie responded "Our last mission was a different sort. We went to a deep space habitat called New Hope Colony to help with some training for Engineering, Science, Medical, and Security. Angel I wished you could have seen that place, it was gorgeous inside with all kinds of greenery, small streams, and they grow all their own food as well."

"Sounds like a really nice place. So how did the training go" Angel inquired wanting to know more.

Jamie grinned "The training went pretty well and we borrowed Lieutenant Stone from here to assist in Medical. There was one cravat, it seems Maria had an incident with one of their security people but let's just say she straightened him our real quick. I didn't get the exact details but knowing Maria."

Angel laughed "That's what I liked about Maria, she doesn't take anyone's crap. All I can say I feel bad for the guy" she commented.

"Ya, you and me both. So anything else interesting going on here."

Angel didn't know if she should say anything but considering Jamie was her dear friend she decided to share ""Well Sureth had me take the McCook out for a shakedown since it's been upgraded with slipstream. A few days later he sent me to a Monn that had recently appeared out of nowhere. I threw together a skeleton crew and am currently trying to pice together more of a crew from the Base's personnel."

"So you were in Command I take it?"

"Yes I was the Commanding Officer and before you asked not only did it go well.....I rather like being in command" Angel replied with a big smile.

"That's fantastic! I knew you had command in you.....so will it be permanent then?"

"Not sure but I hope so. I mean I'm still the Base's XO but I hope to take the ship out from time to time......I guess I'll have to wait and see how things shake out" Angel explained.

Jamie grinned "I'm sure you'll have your own command before you know it" then he paused "Although I would hate to loose contact with you if you were sent away with your own ship."

"Yes that would suck" as she paused "You know Jamie this is all your fault for being such a great Captain and teacher.....and in case I haven't said it before....thank you so much for being you....it really means a lot to me" Angel stated starting for feel a little emotional.

"Thank you Angel but don't sell yourself short.....if it wasn't for your hard work and dedication to your duties, the greatest teacher in the universe couldn't get you where you are now" Jamie stated with sincerity.

The two friends sat and talked for the next couple of hours. Realizing the time "I should be getting back to the Peel before Shauna sends Security looking for me" as he stood.

Angel stood as well "We can't have that now can we" as she grinned "So how are things with Shauna duty wise and of course personally."

"Good. She's taken to being XO very well. As far as personally.....let's just say I think she's the one for me" Jamie commented with a grin.

"I'm happy for you Jamie....a little jealous....but happy" as she walked closer "Can I hug you goodbye still?"

"I wouldn't have it any other way" as Angel gave Jamie a big hug.

"Take care Captain and be safe out there" Angel replied sorry their time had come to an end.

"You too Commander and you be safe a well. I'll see you soon" Jamie answered then turned and left for the Peel.
