The situation

Posted on Wed Oct 21st, 2026 @ 12:09am by Commander David Wallace & Lieutenant Commander Isabelle Veran-Dallas

Mission: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 09/26
Location: USS Cascade
Timeline: 90 minutes to arrival

On:

The briefing room on the Cascade looked more like some kind of command centre than where you would hold a meeting, David was sitting at the head of the table alone, the holographic display at the centre of the table showed the flight path of the ship along with a count down to their arrival at the Nyberrite Corridor. The corridor itself was made up of planets that weren't part of any major power or in the case of one off limits. The powers that line the corridor were outlined in various colours, The Kzinti, Lyran and Hydran were up against the Klingon empire while on the other side of the corridor the Gorn and Tholians resided.

David had zoomed in on the three dimensional model, overlaying the known flight path of the Roswell David had used the notes from Ensign Bear as well as the only report filed, they had kept to a fairly routine path, even cautious. They Kept clear of the Organian zone, other than a casual contact with the with a Mizarian trader, the report ends. To David's left he looked at a status update of the ships that were supposed to join them, VanZandt and Asia were the furthest away, the Lamprey ships were seven hours behind and the two ships designated X one and X two were forty minutes behind them, his thoughts were interrupted by someone arriving, "Did you manage to get some sleep?"

Isabelle offered a nod of her head and a smile. “Eventually, it’s wield without my family but it’s also nice to be able to have a good rest.” She looked at the displays. “Nothing unusual showing up on the displays I take it?”

"Not much, I'm trying to piece together a pair of scenarios of what we could be going into, right now one has us involved in a difficult rescue since the Roswell has a larger crew than us, the other is well...bad." David said still focused on the holographic display, "My biggest fear, if you want to call it that, is the Roswell had a run in with the automated border defences along the Hydran border."

Isabelle nodded. “They shouldn’t have unless there’s problems with the ship, and she drifted into them. That would be rare though, all ships have backup systems these days. As for rescuing a larger crew, we’d just have to use every bit of space we can until we get back, or have assistance.”

"Those were my thoughts, then I started to go down the proverbial rabbit hole with Hydran weapons tech, That's where it's a guessing game, They have a number of beam and projectile systems that can easily overwhelm a starship, rapid fire phasers, a fusion based weapon and a deuterium based torpedo weapon that is highly effective." David said.

“Great!” Sky shook her head. “So we definitely need to try and avoid getting in their way. Let’s hope we don’t end up meeting any of their ships.”

David looked up from the display, "No one has seen one in almost fifty years, they suddenly just disappeared, hibernating or something else we think."

Isabelle nodded. “Let’s hope that they’re still doing whatever it is they’ve been doing then.”

"The ship is outfitted with a few extras for situations like this." he said with a grin

“Oh really” Isabelle grinned. “Don’t keep me in suspense, tell me more.”

"We're outfitted with a cloaking device, a new composite armour plating, phaser upgrades that aren't in the main fleet, and some experimental torpedoes."

“Interesting” Isabelle smiled. “I really need to be reading up on all of this. I was really not expecting to be a First Officer at this point in my career.”

"There will be more to come I'm sure" David said with some hesitation

“I just want to be an XO you can rely on” Isabelle added. “I’ll do my upmost no matter what gets thrown at us.”

"You'll do fine." David said.

Isabelle nodded. “Thanks for the vote of confidence.” She offered a warm smile.
