Several days had passed but eventually John Dallas made his way back to Isabella. Their moment to be together had finally come but first John had to make a decision and then deliver the news.

" Enter." said Sureth.

" Captain I was hoping to have your ear, I need to speak to you." John asked.
John stood but then sat down and brought both hand together to stabilize his thoughts.

" What is it Mr Dallas?"

" Sir I was offered a sponsorship to Star Fleet Academy. But if I go it will be several years before I get back." Dallas said.

" Get back? To be with Isabella I assume? That is your choice Mister Dallas but you will not be allowed to hold the chief security slot on the Nova 2 as a Warrant Officer." Sureth replied.

" I respect that sir. I will take the options. Will you still allow me to marry your daughter?" Dallas replied.

" Who Isabella marries is her business. I would ask you to consider a security position on Savai under Major Mattox command. As a marine you would do very well in that role." Sureth replied.

LATER

John tapped Isabella's quarters and awaited her response..

Isabelle had sensed John’s presence outside her door, rushing across she was quick to answer it. “John, you don’t have to wait outside you know.” She grinned as she motioned him inside, waiting for the door close before wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him. “I missed you!”

John returned the kiss and walked in with Isabella with a heavy heart .
" Well I asked for you hand in marriage. He said it is your decision. There is only one flaw I can't go to the academy and I have to accept a ground assignment to Savai working under Major Mattox."

Isabelle’s smile faded somewhat, “So marrying me means you can’t attend the Academy? And you have to be stuck on the surface?” She sighed and walked unhappily over to a seat and sat down. “I want to marry you John, I’m having our child but...” she shook her head. “I can’t expect you to give up on your dreams because of me.”

" It is no give up Isabella. I am at heart a grunt, a marine and if I need to be one again then I will be for my family." Dallas replied.

“But you’d be based on the planet, not here with us.” Isabelle paused. “I can move to the surface to be there with you. I can travel back and forth for my duties.”

" So can I Isabella. We can make this work so long as you don't care to marry a mere grunt?"

“Are you kidding!?” Isabelle stood up and moved across to John, taking hold of his hands. “I’ll be the proudest wife out there waiting for you!”

" Yeah you will." John said as he finally lifted her up and carried her to the bed.

LATER

Lying in John’s arms Isabelle couldn’t help but smile at the thought of spending her life with him. “So my father actually gave us permission to marry? To be honest I thought he’d have reservations, or stipulations. I’m glad though. Have you asked Captain Rivers about marrying us?”

" I suppose I could but he is no longer my Commanding Officer. We can find a clergy person on the station." Dallas replied.

Isabelle nodded. “I could always ask my father, it could be just a private ceremony with family witnesses. Do you have family who could attend remotely?”

" I will program Deputy one to be my best man."

Isabelle offered an understanding nod. “Are you sure there’s no one else who could do that for you? Maybe Captain Rivers would stand in as your best man? That’s if you’d like him to of course?”

" To be honest Isabella I am a lone wolf. I don't make friends easily. The closest I got to that was years ago and he got killed. So I have decided I don't need friends. You are my beat friend Isabella and that is enough for me. You and this baby will be my world." Dallas admitted.

Isabelle nodded. “So, when do you want to do me the honour of making me your wife?”

" Next week after I get settled in on Savai. " Dallas replied.

Isabelle nodded as she lifted her head to look into eyes. “You’re sure? It’s not all going too fast between us, is it? I know how I feel for you, that will never change. I just want to be sure I’m not rushing you.”

" When I got separated from your Dad on the Avatar planet all I could do was try to get back to you. I would have pushed that Runabout myself. This is going to happen." Dallas promised.

Isabelle nodded as she leant in for a kiss. “Good, because I’m not going anywhere.”
