Commodore Sureth exited the ready room when a voice from OPS called Callaghan.

=/\= Captain Callaghan this is Lieutenant Salem at comms. I am receiving a telemetry signal from probe A57. It is relaying data.=/\=

Shauna was surprised by that one. “Understood I’m on my way.” Walking out into Ops she made her way across. “What are we getting Lieutenant?”

Salem was one of those fellows who just blended in having come from the Bohr with the transfer he and Lt Bob Covenant were the last of the old crew.

" She's traveling at light speed and transmitting on a lower band. Apparently that worm hole is long." Salem replied.

Just then the doors opened to reveal Isabelle, having taken a couple of days off due to not feeling well she was back on her feet feeling better for the rest.

Shauna nodded to Isabelle. “Nice to see you up and about Counsellor.” She turned back to Salem. “So it’s possible this wormhole goes a very long way from here? I’m not sure I like the idea of that.”

“Wormhole?” Isabelle walked across to have a look. “Curious readouts, seems I’ve missed something.”

" Captain the readouts appear sporadic and intervals possibly due to subspace interference. The worm hole also has its own resonating signal. Which means we are able to call it to open." Salem added. Shifting in his seat he felt the hairs on his neck rise as the Captain showed him interest. He had long been attracted to her but never dared approach her.

Isabelle couldn’t help but notice, her senses picking up on Salem’s emotions.

Shauna looked at Salem curiously. “Is it stable enough to be used for travel? If we could use it on demand it could become an important travel corridor depending on where it goes.”

" I would need to analyse the probe but I believe so Captain." Salem replied. " I am reading more data from the probe now, the signal is getting stronger. It is heading back our way."

“With no exit out the other side?” Shauna looked at Salem curiously. “It would have helped to get a glimpse of what was out the other side.”

" Retrieving data now. I am receiving a visual now of the exit Captain" Salem replied.

“Put it on the main screen please Salem” Both Shauna and Isabelle looked at the image curiously.

“It’s beautiful” Isabelle smiled as she studied the image. “I think that would be my idea of heaven.”

“Relay the images to Commodore Sureth, he’ll want to see this.” Shauna smiled.

" Yes Ma'am, " Salem smiled. " Also we are receiving a hail from Captain Deke Rivers aboard the Athena. They have left the Station."

Shauna nodded. “Put him through please.”

=/\= CAPTAIN DEKE RIVERS REPORTING. WE ARE BEGINNING TRIAL RUNS AND HAVE JUST CLEARED THE LAGOON NEBULA. HEADING TO MESSIER 22 AND BACK. LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR US.=/\=

“The lights will be on and dinner will be waiting Captain!” Shauna smiled as she responded. “Hope all goes well for you.”

Deke didn't reply but Salem did.
" More data Captain from probe A57. The probe will arrive in 5 minutes." Salem reported.

“Understood Lieutenant, Thank you” Shauna smiled then looked to Isabelle. “Counsellor, I want you to go along with your father, keep a watchful eye on him for me while he’s off station. That’s if you’re up to it of course?”

Isabelle nodded. “I’m more than up to it Commander, all I ask is you keep an eye on John and my son for me while I’m off station.”

Shauna nodded. “That’s a promise Isabelle.”

Salem resumed his upload of the probes data as he.and the computer learned more and more. He then sent that data to the science lab computer where the data would be analysed by science and then a protocol would be established.

As Salem worked an incoming message from the Cardassia system arrived for Starbase M-69.
" Captain incoming level 2 message for Commander Starbase M-69. It's from the USS Nimitz-D."

“It’s all happening today!” Shauna grinned. “Let’s hear it please Salem.”

" It's a normal day for me. Processing ...." Salem replied as he listened. " Captain you might want to take this in the Commodore's office, alone."

Shauna gave Salem a curious look. “Very well, send it through I’ll pick it up in there.” With that she headed through to Sureth’s Office.

< Commodore's Office >

The viewer on the desk quickly fired up and after the familiar Federation communication symbol a familiar face appeared from Brigadeer General Liam Shaw.

[ Where is Sureth, Captain.] Shaw said from a hospital cot in what appeared to be a barracks.

“Commodore Sureth is currently prepping for an away mission General. Is there something going on I should be aware of?”

" Inform the Commodore that we will not be returning to the station, I am sure he will be glad. Unfortunately I have to report some of our fighter pilots didn't make it. The Breen overwhelmed our position, we launched and engaged. Cowboy went down. I am afraid Lieutenant Dallas was killed." Shaw reported.

Shauna's eyes widened at the statement she'd just heard. "Excuse me General? Did you say Lieutenant Dallas was killed!?" Her heart sank at the thought of having to explain to Isabelle that her husband was dead. She tapped the comms. "Lieutenant Veran-Dallas please report to Commodore Sureth's office."

Isabelle paused on the way out of Ops, turning around she headed to her father's office. Walking in she looked at Shauna. "You asked to..." she paused as she saw the look on Shauna's face. She'd seen it a lot of times before. "No...not John?...please tell me..."

"Isabelle it's not good news, I'm so sorry..." Shauna hated this with every fibre of her being.

Isabelle shook her head, "No I...I can't do this, not now..." she stepped back turning out of the office. In all honesty she didn't know what to do except to join her father on his away party. It had to be wrong, maybe when she got back John would be there? she could hope.

Lt Salem stood up from his position and was relieved by the next shift officer. Sometimes he hated his job. He was however very interested in the new worm hole and prepared to go to his quarters to work on the harmonic pattern that operated its opening and closing.

Shauna looked to the General. "I certainly hope that you're wrong General, Lieutenant Dallas' wife is expecting their first child. I want a thorough investigation and proof that John Dallas isn't coming back!"

[ Well my people are still returning from the zone. As soon as I get released I will call you personally Captain Callaghan, Shaw out.]

< Shuttle Bay >

Preparing the Ocoee for launch Sureth was not yet aware of the recent news from Shaw. The mission ahead was important and he was glad that Isabella was coming along even if it was to nurse maid him.

" This is Commodore Sureth, assigned staff to the Runabout Ocoee it is now time to board, Sureth out." the Vulcan Commodore called over the comms system.

Shauna tapped the comms. "Commodore, I need to talk to you in private before you depart."
