NAZGUL #20: Approval

Posted on Mon Jan 13th, 2025 @ 7:04pm by Lieutenant Commander Sean Loewen & Lieutenant Griffon Resch "Nazgul"

Mission: NAZGUL: {CD&MISSION} Return to Basics
Location: USS NAZGUL
Timeline: Current

ON:

Griffon Resch had been in his office in Security, seeing to patrol reports and other data streams that may concern the department. Several of his people were currently assigned to engineering maintenance teams, aiding in seeing to the Security and Damage Control forcefield emitters all over the ship. According to the team leads and Ejo, they were doing well. That did not surprise Resch since Security personnel were trained in the Academy at how to maintain systems they were in control of. Not at an engineer's level, or even an OPS officer, but good enough to make repairs and see to maintenance. If they felt they may have missed some thing, or were not sure of their work, they sent a message to the maintenance teams in engineering. Basically, a crew relying on the crew to aid in keeping good ol' Nazgul in top form.

As he had finished with those tasks, Resch began to dig into what he would have to do to access Ainkara's personal logs and coded science files. As Security Chief he had the authorization to do so, but only if the commanding officer went along with it and gave him permission. If not, Griffon would run into firewalls up the whazoo and the CO would be alerted to such a breach of privacy. Leaning back in his chair, Griff rubbed his chin for a few minutes as thoughts ran through his mind. Sheyla was currently Number One, and his friend and colleague Sean Loewen, was acting captain. He decided that it should not be too hard to convince them to allow his invasion into Kara's files and personal logs. Along with giving them knowledge as a command staff, it would score brownie points with Captain Ro Green. Possibly. The decision made, Griffon got to his feet and scooped up his palm PADD, leaving his office and heading out into the corridor. Tapping his combadge he asked for the location of Captain Loewen and the computer gave him the information. He continued on.

'Captain' Sean Loewen sat in the Ready Room, at his desk, with PADDs spread out before him, which he was going through one at a time. He had had no idea the amount of work and paperwork went into commanding a vessel. Status reports, maintenance logs, Starfleet messages, and much more that needed to be seen to, read, and then marked as read and filed away. It made him wonder if Tore had a Yeoman, or because of his genetics, never saw the need for one. Sean would have to find a junior officer in the Command Division to aid in all of this, and mark reports in his name that were not a priority. Until then...damn. The door chime sounded, which was odd considering it was not locked or marked do not disturb. "Come in."

Entering when prompted, Resch walked over to the desk. His first act was to give a wide smile and extend a hand over the desktop, which was clasped in a handshake and a return smile was given. "Congrats, Skipper."

"Skipper?" Both men chuckled as the handshake finished, Loewen still wearing a smile at his old friend. "Not sure if that is a proper title, but I like it. Makes me feel like an old sub commander."

Griffon had sat down, his own smile remaining. "Yeah, well, it fits you. I mean, come on man. We were friends before you got the throne, so a bit of grace is all I ask."

Loewen leaned back casually in his chair. "Done, Griffon. I'll see how it affects me if others use it, too. You might be the only one to get away with it."

"Awww. I feel charmed, now." Resch said that and it elicited more laughter from the two.

"Alright, enough horse play," Loewen said. "What brings you upstairs?" His eyes still showed a bit of lightheartedness, but the smiles and grins had faded. It was now time for ship's business.

"This whole affair with Kara and the facility, that's what." Admitted Resch, not hiding anything as was his way. "Whatever data Starfleet is looking for, it's on this ship, Sir. However, I need your permission to dig into personal logs and coded science files under Kara's name. I can't just start digging into her private life without your approval."

"I see," Sean responded, taking a few moments to think on that. He sat up straighter and rolled his chair to where his torso was now at the desktop edge, arms resting on the top. "I am not one to approve such things, but this is important. And, according to Captain Green, HQ wants that data for whatever reason. It makes me nervous why they're so hell bent on getting it but I can't just ignore my duty as a Starfleet officer."

Griffon gave a nod of agreement and understanding. "I feel the same, Skipper. Sheyla and I can dig into the files and look for anything in regards to Penni, the facility, anything to do with Iconians she may have secreted away. I mean, she was a slave race under them centuries ago before they put her in deep freeze." He saw the even gaze he was now receiving from Sean. Griffon raised a hand of assurance. "Skipper, I am after the data about the facility, not trying to open her past for all eyes to see." Resch saw Loewen's eyes go back to a relaxed stance.

"Good." Said Loewen. "Her past is her business, her history. When she feels like speaking about it then we'll listen. As for the facility and the recent events, you have my permission to dig, within reason. I'll let you be the judge of how in-depth you need to go. Sheyla will be sent your way to aid you since she is the Intel Chief."

"Thank you, Skipper. Your trust is appreciated."

Sean's thoughtful face gave forth a subtle chuckle. "If I can't trust my Security Chief, we're all doomed."

"True that," Resch replied, the lighthearted ambience having returned. "Anyway, Sir, I'll get on this quickly."

Loewen leaned forward over the desktop, his hand motioning for the PADD to be handed over. When he grasped it he brought it before himself and tapped a few times as he scrolled to areas that needed his mark of approval. Once done, he placed it flat on the desk and slid it back. "Your investigation is approved, Griffon. We know that she went to the Unre star system. Time to comb over the Delta she took and dig into its memory files."

Resch had to admit to himself that he had not thought of that. "Good idea, Skipper. That didn't occur to me until you said it."

"And that, Mister Resch, is why I'm Skipper and you're not." Sean's humorous statement made them both laugh as he got to his feet, sliding his chair back to stand up. He came around the desk and shook hands again. "I hope the ribbing wasn't too painful?"

"Not at all," Resch said. Honestly, Sir, you can have it. I am content right where I am."

Loewen shared another chuckle with his friend before giving a friendly slap to the back of the man's shoulder to send him off. "Good luck on the investigation."

"Thanks," Griffon responded as he got moving.

Sean watched him leave the Ready Room, the door closing between them as his Security Chief left the captain's office/conference room. As he turned to go back and sit down, Loewen froze in place as a ripple in the Force was felt. Pain, suffering, and malevolence. Calling on Sense, he reached out to try and pinpoint a direction from whence it came. But, it was gone before he could lock in. "Computer, lock the Ready Room door; do not disturb."

"Affirmative. Ready Room on lockdown for captain's privacy."

Going to the rug in the small lounge area Sean sat down lotus and used Control to relax his mind and body. It was time for a deep meditation to try and discern just what the Force was trying to tell him.
