Still docked for repairs moored the little Wallace class vessel named the Athena. A little ship that had survived both the Dominion and Borg now its fate rested on the shoulders of the Starbase M-69 Engineering Department.

Jessica entered the Athena to join Myar in the ongoing repairs. „ Lt. Myar, how the repairs coming along.“ she asked .

" Commander? To be truthful this old ship has seen better days. I have had to strip most of the reactor components and replace them following the last mission. I left my stem bolts on the station but I am going to have to restrengthen the hull plating with the new bolts because all the radiation this ship has seen has damaged some of the hull plating. Numerous radiation leaks...I have been coming here when I am off duty from my other duties. Am I behind on something?" the Caitian asked.

„Not at all Lietenant, you are taking good care of this old lady and doing your best getting her backup to shape. I just like to offer my help and see where i can get my hands dirty.

" I welcome your help Commander. Having paws instead of hands makes it hard sometimes." Myar joked as he handed them Commander a padd with data on the Wallace class.

" The problem must be in the internal memory systems. Like a virus or something maybe?" Myar added.

„It could be. Have you tried to isolate it further by removing isolinear chips from the memory banks. It could have affected some.“ Jessica said spitting out ideas. „We could start there. What do you think?“ asking Myar.

" That's why you are the chief. I will check each and every chip Commander. Thank you ." Lt. Myar purred as only a male Caitian can.

" That sounds like a good start. Would you like a hand? I would be happy to help. "Jessica asked Lt. Myar

" You take the right side of the panel and I will do the left." Myar replied. Opening his tool pouch Myar got started.

"Roger that."Jessica replied and got to work. She grabbed the scanner and started pulling out one chip at a time and marking the positions where they were located in pad as reference as she kept each chip out. It was her way tracking. “How was it going on your side? she asked “I have not found anything yet, I am not finished yet I sill got several to go through.” She asked.

Myar hissed as he found a row of burned and damaged isolinear chips.

" Well I found a possible power flux issue. Some one installed the wrong chips for this vessel. They will work for a while but then over load when power is redirected from other systems like shield and weapons. " Myar reported. " I was on that last mission and should have caught this."

“ Don’t beat yourself up, take it as win and learn from it. This will make you better Lieutenant. It happens to the best of us. Thanks to you it got discovered at last.” Jessica comforted the Lieutenant. “Tell me what happened on the last mission?” She asked.

" The ship was over taxed and used a lot of energy to help keep a temporal door open. Firing torpedoes shorted out those chips I now realize." Myar replied.

“ Good to know . We might need a few more people to go through deck by deck to do a complete check, so that we rule out any other chips on board. What do think?” ,in the same breath she continued “ and find ways in how to improve it further. It would be great to get this old lady in better shape as she was before that mission if you understand what I’m implying.” Jessica said.

Myar did understand and felt the weight of judgement slowly lifting from his shoulders. In his goal to get the ship up and ready for Captain Rivers Myar had pushed the boundaries of safety. A decision that could have gotten someone killed. But by the fates it had not. Now the Athena would be pain stakingly repaired and might one day serve again.
