Mission:
Stellar Problems
Location: M-69
Timeline: Current
ON:
Ainkara had just finished dressing in her quarters after a hot shower and hygiene care. Today was different, instead of trench coat and cat suit, Kara decided to go with her new cut (leatheris vest, biker style) that was designed like a belly shirt, showing off her midriff somewhat and her belly button. Beneath the vest all she wore was a black sports bra, to match the black of the rest of the outfit. The rockers were patches with a white field and dark, forest green letters done up Olde English style. The top rocker said; Saints of Bliss. The bottom rocker said; Nomad. Her plan was to build a Merchant Club, all dedicated to each other through the organization and loyal unto death for one another. When one member was attacked by someone, all other members across the organization would be like a swarm of hornets. People would get stung for messing with a member or, their business dealings. Outlaw justice. Along with the vest, Kara wore a pair of leatheris pants, hip huggers, form fitting with turquoise and silver conchas down the outside seams on each leg. Of course, her tactical, knee-high jump boots were wrapped around the straight legs of the pants which were designed to do just that. Her equipment belt was just the PADD, fold-up tricorder and a pouch for small things like latinum strips and other trinkets. Her saber hilt was hooked to the belt on her left hip. On her upper arms, Kara had leatheris bands around them just above the biceps, the constriction light but enough to enhance her athletic, feminine muscle mass.
With the deal having been made, Kara was busy with re-organizing how Club Bliss would be run, mainly by Manny since she would be out plying the space lanes in the SS Harbinger. All the legalities were being seen to and over the next couple of days would be ready for signing over. Captain Taavis and the USS Capernum could be slotted to leave port at any time by Starfleet Command, on any number of missions, so this needed to be seen to as quickly as possible. Lieutenant T'Pri was in on the legalese since she was a Diplomatic Officer, and the DIPLO department in Starfleet was also JAG. Part of the Command Division.
"Captain Green to Lieutenant Kara."
Being finished with her dressing, and standing in her common/living room, Kara was wearing the combadge just under the title plate of "Prez" for Saints of Bliss; SoB. She tapped it. "Kara here, Captain. Go ahead."
Ro's voice was pleasant even as it was authoritative in her profession. "Miss Kara, please come to my office as soon as you can."
"On my way, Captain. Kara, out." Tapping the badge off, and dressed for her day without sidearm due to Starfleet policy for the station, Ainkara departed her quarters. As good as her word, Kara arrived in the Fleet Captain's offices and was told to go straight in to the FC's office proper. Doing so, Kara entered and as the doors shut behind her she came to a stop as she saw Captain Green conferring with two men, Humans wearing suits, who were all sitting in Green's little lounge area for guests. Approaching slowly, Kara came to stand on the opposite side of the coffee table between them, making no move to sit down, with arms hanging at her sides casually. "You wanted to see me, Captain?"
Green stood up, the two men matching her. "Miss Kara, these men are here to see you. They are from Federation Security. Gentlemen, this is Lieutenant Kara, Inactive Reserve and a member of the Meji Order."
Both men stepped around the coffee table, extending hands. The taller, more muscular man spoke first. "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Kara. I am Senior Agent Malcolm Knowles." She shook his hand and then released. "This is Agent Peter Davis." Again, a quick handshake for propriety.
Kara looked to Agent Knowles. "Nice to meet you, too. Both of you. However, I am having a hard time discerning why you are here."
Ro had been glancing at Kara, up and down, finding this new mode of dress interesting. To what end she could not figure out, hoping it would be explained during this meeting.
"We're here, Miss Kara..." Knowles stopped when a hand came up to stop him.
"Just Kara." She said. "Please, continue."
"Very well," Knowles said, not offended as he preferred a more personable approach. Addressing someone common was a good way to do that. "We're here, Kara, because I would like to offer you a place among us. Us being Federation Security, of course. Would you be interested?"
Kara moved her gaze to Green. "Captain, did you set this up?"
"Nope," Ro admitted. "They came knocking with their interest on you, not me. As an inactive reserve officer I have a say in what gets done with you as far as Command is concerned. Beyond that, you're free to move about as a civilian."
"Precisely," Knowles interjected. "That is a boon we can capitalize on, Kara. According to the Captain you have recently made arrangements to provide you a more mobile presence out there." He waved a hand out from himself, meaning the galaxy around them. "We had no idea about that when we arrived, although, in time, it would have come to our attention."
Kara's eyes had returned to Malcolm's. "So, you want me to join Federation Security-slash-Intelligence?"
"That's correct." Agent Peter Davis said, finally adding his voice. "You're a wild card, an unknown, but we feel we can reach an accord that you will find to your liking."
"I see," Kara responded. Internally, she was beginning to like where this was going. "So, in what role would I be beneficial?"
Green got everyone to grab a beverage and then they all sat back down in the lounge area. Ro and Kara in the chairs at each end of the coffee table, the two agents on the sofa facing the table. Between sips they continued to discuss where this was all going.
Knowles pick the conversation back up where her query had been asked. "As an agent in UFP Security and Intel, you would be operating as a deep cover operative. Yes, you will have handlers out there who send you things to look into but, our interest is getting you into the Strategic Information Service, or SIS, for short. You be who you are, completely off any Federation books, and feed us information on what is going outside of Starfleet and the UFP. You will be apprised of all safe houses we have and where they are if you were to need them. If not assigned to look into something you have complete autonomy to do as you will." He took a sip of his coffee before asking his question at the end. "How does that sound?"
Glancing at Ro as she was sipping her own hot beverage, and giving Kara a slight nod to say she should go for it, Kara then looked back at the Senior Agent. "Complete autonomy? I relish that. To be undercover for clandestine operations and to gather information? It suits me fine. But, before I say yes may I add some conditions for you to ponder?"
Agent Davis gave a nod, a slight grin on his face. "Please, do."
"First, no more Starfleet for me, on any level," said Kara, looking to Green for that and getting a nod from her, too. She did not seem bothered by the request, this was professional business. "Second, no check-in schedule, ever. I will do what I do and will feed information to my handlers when I feel it is safe to do so. No demands will be made for that. The world I will be involved in will be highly scrutinizing and one small slip-up and the game is up. Third, this vest is a symbol for a new merchant club I am going to turn into a business. A Merchant Club, or MC, operating similar to how the Motorcycle Clubs, or biker gangs operated in Earth's past. Loyal, dedicated people all working to make bank and to look after each other. If you," she gave a nod to each agent. "Can handle that and aid in a little advertising, word of mouth from undercover handlers to set us up, I will gladly take the badge of agent."
The two agents gave each other a glance, and by their expressions, nothing she had said would be a problem. With a satisfied look in their eyes, and a nod to one another, they looked back at Kara with Knowles speaking. "None of that will be an issue. Matter of fact, pretty simple to help you out and get you out there. We have SIS in all walks of life and letting them know of your up-and-coming business will definitely get you more freight business."
At last, Kara gave a smile and shook their hands again. "That pleases me more than you know. Just one more thing. I want Commodore Sureth, Captain Vehn, and Commander Wallace to know who I am behind the facade. Classified, of course, but they may need me, or I them, in certain circumstances. As a Meji my allegiance is to the Federation and Starfleet so, there are no worries there. Now, it is doubly so."
"Damn good to hear," Knowles said, smiling and giving a quick clap of his hands in giddiness. "Wallace and Kehlani keep us up to tabs through their own reports, but having more Intel assets out this way is always welcome."
Green had to step in before his next segment, handing a PADD over to Kara. "Your Starfleet resignation document. I just need you to put your mark. Don't worry, you have a high score and your reasons for leaving are honorable should you decide to come back to service. Just sign and put your combadge on the PADD as you hand it back." Kara did as instructed, feeling a bit of remorse as she placed her combadge flat on the PADD when handed back to Green. But, with her new role in life, that remorse quickly faded.
After the PADD was given back, Knowles continued. "The command staff for M-69 would have been informed, anyway. Not overtly, just something they would have stumbled on when checking their own emails and such. Now, we'll make sure each of them gets an encoded, classified summation of what has transpired here today. Welcome aboard, Agent Kara." He gave her a friendly, welcoming smile. Davis did too, although it had less exuberance. Seems he was the more stoic of the two. Probably training for the Agent In Charge spot (AIC), or Senior Agent, thought Kara. Davis had been tapping away on his palm PADD, then turned it facing out as he held it out towards Kara.
"Peek into the void, please." Davis said, now a smile of mirth on his face at his little joke.
Knowing what this was for, Kara did so, but with her right eye, making sure the left eye was closed before she even got close enough for the retinal scan/recording for her credentials. They did not need to see her left eye, what with the biosynthetic Iconian technology within it. The PADD bleeped softly, saying it got what it needed and logged it. Davis pulled it back and leaned back into the sofa to work on finishing what he was doing.
Knowles, Green, and Kara all stood up and took their cups and glasses to the replicator refuse and dropped them in. Ro gave Kara a half hug and handshake. "The bay that Harbinger is in, is a permanent lease for Bliss. For when the club has incoming supplies. Taavis set that up when she first opened the place. Your X-wing will remain safe and secure while you are out in Harbinger. Cosmo can see to the fighter while you and Nano play smuggler bums." She smiled at that.
Kara smiled in return, truly happy with all that had transpired. Her return to Dark Harbor would now be as a merchant, a civilian, and neither Billi nor Tore Bjorgo would be informed otherwise. Another stumbling block that had been removed. "Thank you," said Kara, making sure to glance Peter's way as she said this. "All of you. I now know that all that has transpired in my life was to set me up for this moment. To make a difference."
Knowles took her hand in the way a friend would to make a point. "We're glad to have you. Your jaunt to Dark harbor did not go unnoticed by our operatives there. And, truth be told, what prompted us to come and speak to you."
Green's eyes went back and forth between them. "What is going on at Dark harbor?"
"Slavery," Kara said nonchalant. "That's not even the worst part."
Both Knowles and Ro shared a look, then their eyes came back to Kara. "Do tell." Said Ro.
Kara, not much for it now, explained. "Tore Bjorgo and Billi are running the operations there." She saw Knowles was about to say something and gently raised a hand. "I know all about them being undercover, but it goes deeper than that. THEY are running the show. All of it. My capture and slavery was not intended but they let it happen to save the mission when all they did was make an enemy for life. It is my goal to make them pay for that crime against my body and soul, whether that means their deaths or a long stint in prison. I will not give on this, it will happen!" She said with absolute conviction.
Ro knew all too well what most female slaves went through. To learn that Billi and Tore were involved and allowed it to happen for any reason, was a shock. However, she could understand why Kara would not budge on this. "I cannot stop you as you are no longer under my jurisdiction, Kara. As far as that goes, I am sorry you had to go through that. I now understand why you have been different since you came back to us. Just be mindful, and careful, when dealing with an augment. We're tougher than we look and mind games don't often work."
Knowles had allowed Green to finish before speaking. "You are already making yourself into a prime agent, Kara. Get us any, and all, evidence of this and we will back you on prosecutions, and defend you should you need to terminate them. Like this merchant club of yours, we look out for our own when they are in need."
"That would be greatly beneficial," said Kara. "I cannot promise one outcome over another until that confrontation presents itself." She then looked to Green. "I am a Force user, Master Ro, but I need to step away from the Meji. I am neither Light nor Dark in my honest opinion of myself. I am, for ease of description, grey. For me the Force is just that; the Force. It is an ally and I use it as I need to, when I need to. With that mindset I cannot adhere to any code you have in store for members. Unless, of course, you allow this Meji leeway on that decision according to each incident I use it."
Ro looked into Kara's eyes, trying to read anything there. All she could fathom from those eyes, eyes that were now a hazel color compared to the brown they used to be. Within that hazel were flecks of amber, an eye color rare in Humans and others, but it was a natural color. An amber that reminded her of her own eyes when she had used the Dark side to accomplish victory and save lives. A clear sign that Kara had used the Dark side quite frequently. This was hard to say but her old student needed to hear it. "I will allow you to step away. Your standing in the Meji Order will be returned to you should you choose to return to us. I would very much like to grant your leeway but, if I do it for one then I would have to do it for others. Something I cannot have. Just know I will always care for you and wish you the best and you can come see me or talk to me when you feel the need. I will relinquish you and all your obligations to the Order. Go be who you need to be, do what you need to do. It is my hope that when all is said and done you will return to us." Stepping in Ro gave her a warm hug. She released it slowly, with sorrow in her heart. "Be safe, always. Your X-wing will remain yours."
Knowles and Davis had stood quiet the whole time, watching the interplay between the two women. They knew very little about what they were discussing but, their knowledge of the Meji Order as set down in the agreement with the Federation Council they knew all too well. It was a personal matter between them. "We'll be going, Ladies," said Knowles. "Kara, when you get a chance, before you head back to Dark Harbor, we have assets there that can aid you if need be. Safe houses, weapons and gear, you name it. Contact us if you feel you need them. Davis has made sure you have an access code for encoding your messages and transmissions. Your credentials will be delivered to you shortly by an undercover courier. Until we speak again, Agent Kara, have a good day." Knowles got Davis moving with him and both men left the office.
"Stuffy," said Green with a smile.
Kara grinned. "They aren't so bad. I've met worse."
Green noted the way of speaking again for Kara. "Have you noticed that you're contractions are becoming a regular thing, Kara?"
Arching an eyebrow with a slight tilt of her head, Kara thought on that a moment before looking back at Green with a smile. She giggled. "I guess they are. Blame Griffon. When we became confidantes he expressed to me that I needed a culture, something to call my own. The Iconians tortured being Voran out of us and I was raised a Voran with very little understanding of who we were as a people. So, I've latched onto a more Human way of doing things. It seems to get easier with the passage of time and I like the culture of Earth. The varied sub-cultures are fascinating."
"That they are," Green replied with a smile. "Ken Kudo and I have bonded, just so you know. We kept it between us but I think I have finally fallen in love again. I'll be missing him desperately while he's out cruising the galaxy. But, such is the way of Starfleet."
"I am so happy for you, Ro. Truly." Kara meant that, her mind suddenly asking herself if she would ever find that kind of thing. Probably not but, oh well. Some people found it, others did not. If there was one she would consider it was Griffon Resch. However, often times when friends became lovers it often damaged the friendship should they part ways as lovers. She would rather never know how he would love her over losing him as a friend. "You deserve it."
Ro had fished, but there was no bite from Kara. She let it lie. "Thanks. Anyway, I have a series of ship reports to get to. Congrats on your new life. If you leave anytime soon, call or come by to say goodbye, would you?"
"Of course." Kara gave her another hug, a good friendly squeeze and then off she went. Agent Kara had things to get done.
