Dropping A Bomb

Now that the Reman Ship had left their system, after causing devastation to the Station, Angel had some time to herself. Sitting on the couch thinking on what to have for dinner, she was interrupted when her terminal sounded. Rising from her seat Angel walked over and sat down at her desk when Comms informed her “Sorry to bother you Commander but a call has come in for you marked private.” “Send it to my quarters please.”

Moments later a big smile came across her face “Erica, what a pleasant surprise” she stated feeling her pulse quicken.

“Hi gorgeous, how are you” Erica inquired happy to see Angel if it was only through her terminal.

“I’m doing pretty well all things considered” then she paused a moment “Of course I’m doing much better now seeing your smiling face” Angel replied “So what’s up with you.”

“Well….I’ll be at the Station tomorrow and I thought maybe we could get together if you’re around there” Erica commented missing her.

“I take it you haven’t heard. The Station was attacked by a hostile force and, from what I’ve heard, was severely damaged so much so I hear their evacuating it so they can make the repairs” she explained.

“Oh crap! No that’s news to me” then she paused “You could always beam aboard the Calypso” she suggested with a smile.

“As much as I would love that I have a feeling we’re going to be busy making supply runs for the Station for at least a few weeks” Angel explained.

“That’s to bad. I would really like to spend some more time with you but I do understand; duty first” then she paused a moment “Angel it’s too bad you…..” Then she stopped short finishing her sentence “Never mind I shouldn’t say anything.”

“No please finish your sentence…..you can tell to me” Angel replied curious about what Erica was going to say.

“I was going to say it’s too bad you’re not working on the Station instead of the Peel; that way we could spend more time together” Erica stated finally “But I shouldn’t have suggest such a thing.”

“No that’s quite alright” the she paused “That same idea has been rattling around in my head for awhile now” as she paused once again “There’s nothing I would enjoy more than spending more time with you so we could get to know one another even better. I really have enjoyed spending time with you” Angel confessed with a grin.

“Really?! That would be awesome but no pressure, you decide on what YOU want to do” she replied with fingers crossed Angel would make the right decision.

“Tell you what….Let me think about it and see what’s involved and I’ll let you know” she answered with her brain going in a million different directions at the moment.

“Fair enough plus I should be going anyway. Can’t wait to see you again. Montgomery out” as the screen went black.

Sitting back in her chair Angel thought maybe IT was time for a change; she’d been on a Star Ship ever sense she had left the Academy years ago “It would be nice to be able to see Erica more often” she thought since she was becoming quite fond of her.

After giving it some more thought Angel realized she should talk it over with Jamie. Tapping her comm “Captain O’Connell this is Commander Devroe. I need to talk to you about something of a personal nature if you can spare me a few minutes of your time.”

Hearing the call “Certainly Commander….I’m in my quarters….please feel free to drop by” Jamie replied wondering what was up.

“Thank you Captain, be there in a few” Angel answered as she could feel the nerves starting to kick in.

Minutes later Angel walked up seeing her Captain waiting in his doorway “Please come in and make yourself comfortable” as the two officers entered.

“Thank you for seeing me on such short notice Jamie; I really appreciate your time” she commented.

“I always have time for my Number One. I was about to make myself a cup of tea…..would you like one” Jamie replied with a query.

“Yes please” she answered as she sat in her usual spot at the island table.

Placing a cup of tea in front of her, Jamie sat across from her “So what’s on your mind Angel” he asked before taking a sip of his freshly brewed tea.

Looking for the right words “There’s no easy way to say this so I’ll just come out with it” then she continued “I told you I’ve met a very beautiful woman named Erica and we are really hitting it off” she stated with a smile.

“Yes you mentioned that awhile ago…..so how’s that going, if you don’t mind my asking” Jamie replied still not quite sure where this conversation was headed.

“Actually it’s going very well and that’s why I wanted to speak with you” then Angel paused a moment “I would really like to see more of her but it’s very difficult being on a Ship” then she paused once again “Jamie I have spent my entire career aboard a Ship. I was wondering if maybe I could transfer to the Station; that way I could see her more often and maybe have a real relationship for once in my life” Angel concluded being very nervous at what Jamie was going to say next.

Sitting back In his chair looking into Angel’s eyes “Well you certainly know how to drop a bomb on your Captain” then he paused “Are you sure about this….I mean you’ve worked very hard to get where you are now.”

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. It’s always been duty first and me second which hasn’t worked out all that great relationship wise. I would really like to have this in my life…..a real relationship I mean” Angel explained.

Letting out a long sigh “I’ve always known this day would come at some point….I just didn’t think it would be so soon” then he paused a moment “You do know you’re going to be very hard to replace…..you doing such a great job. But if this is something you really want then I won’t stand in your way” thinking a moment “Tell you what before we involve Commodore Sureth let me talk with Captain Vehn first and see what’s available or where you could be slotted on the Station; then you can go from there. However I would prefer not to make any changes to the Peel’s roster until after the Station is up and running just to make things easier on everyone.”

“Fair enough Jamie and I totally understand your position so thank you for understanding; that means a lot to me” she replied with sincerity. I’ve taken up enough of your time and keep me in the loop on this, please.”

“Absolutely and I’ll keep this to myself for now; no sense in starting any rumors on the Ship” Jamie answered with a grin.

“I appreciate that and thanks again” as Angel stood, turned and left the Captain’s quarters. Walking down the corridor she whispered to herself “Well at least I’ve got the ball rolling.”

Taking a seat on his couch Jamie started thinking “I’m gong to need someone really good to replace Angel; I rely on her for so much. Hopefully Shauna will have some insight on this one.”
