Mission:
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 10/25
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: Current
ON:
As the battle continued to rage in one area, Lieutenant Gavin Lasso and Lieutenant Devlin Dunbar were aboard a Delta Flyer, with the Irishman in the pilot's seat down low, forward, Lasso up behind him at the Tactical station. It was a station specifically designed to aid the pilot with everything else while they focused on flying. It was, essentially, a RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) position similar to militaries from Earth's past. "There, dead ahead, twenty-three kilometers." Lasso announced, sending the data images to a screen that Dunbar could easily see and follow for his own pilot navigation. Both men wore EVA suits, helmets to the side, in case they had to do any exterior work to aid the damaged civilian ships that had been subjected to fast moving debris and explosive wave forces as the station had been blowing out in certain sections.
"Got it," Dunbar responded, easily angling the Delta as he used the stick to pilot, not the keypad controls. He pushed the speed to full. "One minute to intercept." Two other Deltas formed up alongside them on each side. "Tractor beam on standby."
Lasso took in the information, seeing to his own screens. Where the hell were the Klingons, he asked himself. Any chance to kill Remans should have had them all here, foaming at the mouth. This being the Delta for the FC supervisor it was designated Delta 1, with the two escort Deltas being 6 and 8. Every Delta the station had was currently out aiding in battle, with a few losses, or were seeing to moving civilian ships away from M-69 for their own safety. The station looked to be stable, but not having had time to check that specifically, Gavin continued to follow his initial plan as FC Chief. Clear the field of any non-essential vessels and get them to safety. "Delta 6, Delta 8, stay in formation as we slow and activate our tractors. Try not to use it on damaged sections of the freighter. If bad enough, you might end up yanking hull plates free."
"Got it, Lieutenant."
Acting in concert, the Deltas were successful in attaching their tractor beams correctly and safely, then began to tow the damaged transport away from M-69.
Delta 8 piped in. "Chief, we got incoming warp signatures, opposite side from the battle."
"It bloody figures," grumbled Lasso. He angled his sensors that way, but his trained eye caught the frequency of those warp signatures. 'Qapla'!" He shouted with joy. "The Klingons are here!" Just as he said that the IKS Foes Bane and IKS Rokeg dropped from their warp envelope to full impulse, the Bird of Prey and the cruiser a welcome sight. Even those in the other Deltas gave howls of delight at seeing them.
Sitting on his own Bridge, Lieutenant Marz could see the carnage quite well from here. Starfleet had been fighting valiantly, and from the reports his officers were calling out, giving as good as they were getting. "Tell Rokeg to engage at will!" He called out, his comm officer acknowledging and proceeding even as he kept speaking. "Let's see how many Remans we can send to Grethor!" Helm angled the Foes Bane and they were now moving in. "Contact Delta 1." The order was followed and he was told so. "Lieutenant Lasso, it seems you started without us, my friend." Marz laughed as he said that.
Gavin could not help but smile as he heard that voice and the laughter. "About time you got here, Marz. I was beginning to wonder if you had stopped for your midday meal."
"Hah!" Marz responded. "We had a run-in with some Reman vessels, possible reinforcements in hiding. We taught them how to tie their boots!" Not only did Marz laugh as he said that, but his whole Bridge crew did so around him, easing down to derisive chuckles.
Hearing the derision in the final chuckles, Lasso had to ask. "How did that go?"
Marz gave another evil chuckle. "Very well. We simply removed their legs." More laughter from his Bridge.
Lasso, while listening, had compiled the latest tactical analysis and sent the data in a coded transmission to Foes Bane. "Glory to our House, brother! I just sent all our tactical data from the battle. Destroy them, drive them from the field, whatever it takes, Marz."
"We shall do just that. Marz, out." The Klingon ships began to move away even as the Deltas continued to tow the wounded freighter.
Looking to the data, Marz noted that the enemy was being routed and retreating. They would pursue them long enough to make sure they were leaving the area, his hope being that they could catch at least one wounded bird and see to its demise.

USS Capernum sat in her spot, with Captain Loewen back on the Bridge. The Alpha Bridge crew were coming back to the command deck, T'Pri being the first to arrive aside from the Captain. Tired of sitting, Sean stood over by her chair, saying nothing as she sat and began to see to her station even as he was looking at the forward viewport. Just as Resch came out of the starboard lift Tactical spoke up. "Captain. Two Klingon vessels just dropped from warp and are moving to engage the Reman forces. The cruiser Rokeg and the BoP Foes Bane."
"Nice!" Loewen hissed out, happy to hear they were not alone in this fight. "Send a message to the USS Euphrates. Tell Commander Sheyla to form up her element and engage with the Klingons. Offer themselves as part of the Klingon attack group."
Resch had allowed his officer to finish his report, do as he was ordered, then relieved the man as he sat down. "Euphrates acknowledges, Captain. They're moving to join the Klingons."
The lift opened and in walked Kudo, with a much taller, and older looking, Yui. Loewen noted she was in an impressive outfit now instead of the tutu style skirt she had been wearing. The once three and a half foot girl was now easily five feet tall. On his side, Kudo had spoken to Yui after waking, sharing affection even as she told him everything Qeritas had informed her of. Having to get back to the Bridge, Ken told his daughter to accompany him since this was now Starfleet business, not just a girl wanting to be near her daddy. Kudo noted that even T'Pri showed surprise at the new Yui, not like anyone else, but that arched eyebrow was the first clue she had been taken aback by it. "Captain, we know where Captain Kudo is." Ken stated this simply not seeing any reason to beat around the bush.
That got Sean's attention, the Captain moving over closer to Kudo and Yui with T'Pri next to him as she too went over. "Do tell, Mister Kudo."
Ken took a breath, having to reword what he had just said. "Apologies, Sir, I misspoke. Correctly, Yui knows exactly where she is. The Q we're all familiar with gave her some Intel."
"Qeritas?" Resch asked. "Been a while since we've seen her. This must be important."
Loewen absorbed that from his Security Chief, then his eyes moved to Yui. "As Captain of this ship, Miss Yui, I need answers. Where is Captain Kudo?"
"I don't know," Yui said, seeing the Captain getting ready to retort even as his face morphed into someone getting upset. "But," she added before he could retort. "I have coordinates."
"Coordinates to where?" T'Pri asked.
Yui was suddenly very nervous, the intense gazes of everyone on the Bridge, especially from those closest to her made her uneasy; trapped. "I...I don't know. It is a location seven light years from here, on a cloaked ship. Qeritas says beaming aboard should be no problem, which I have to agree with, since cloaked vessels can't raise their defensive screens and avoid detection. Nothing to stop the beam."
"Are you willing to share this knowledge," Sean asked.
Yui's uneasiness flipped on its head to obstinance. "No."
"Yui!" Kudo said her name, and though he did not raise his voice, the tone of anger was unmistakable.
Loewen raised a hand at Ken, who stopped whatever else he was going to say, his gaze locked onto this young lady standing before him. Sean was relying on his Meji training in this moment. "May I ask why?"
"Because she's MY mother, not yours," Yui said flat out, returning that steady, determined gaze. "I am the reason why she suffers. What they tried to do to her with their rituals and alchemy was passed on to me during her pregnancy. It is my understanding that the being within me, this Reman god known as Grezhok is, in fact, a corrupted Q."
The first person to speak after that announcement was T'Pri. "Fascinating."
"That's one word for it," Resch quipped.
Loewen ignored them both, and once he had absorbed that bit of information, he engaged the young woman again. "So, there is a Q living within you?" A nod yes. "A being who was hidden within your mother?" Another nod. "T'Pri, any input?"
T'Pri, not wanting to insult Yui, but also not willing to ignore her Captain's query, gave a short response. "It is obvious, Captain, that this Q within has found a way to bring about a mutagenic change to his hosts. For what reason I cannot say."
Yui spoke up as she finished, following the Vulcan's train of thought. "In genetics, a mutagen is a physical or chemical agent that permanently changes genetic material, usually DNA, in an organism and thus increases the frequency of mutations above the natural background level. As many mutations can cause cancer in animals, such mutagens can therefore be carcinogens, although not all necessarily are. All mutagens have characteristic mutational signatures with some chemicals becoming mutagenic through cellular processes. With that in mind, Qeritas said that the Remans used alchemy and metaphysical abilities to bring about a change in organic material, to mix Grezhok's energy into flesh. If his 'spirit' ingests this particular meal then he can become a creature able to exist in several dimensions at once. Grezhok would no longer be limited by the rules of the Q Continuum."
"So, this Grezhok is an outlaw," Resch surmised. "I say we bumrush this little get together and flip the switch on the guy."
"My plan exactly," Yui said, giving Griffon a grin and wink for matching her way of thinking. "Once I free mother then we can proceed to take down the remnants of this cult, since the ship they are on is the only one they have left. You have my word, Captain, we will bring the Tvaro class BoP back to M-69 for them to examine and investigate. I have no interest in anything except saving my mother. They took her when it's me they really want since I am Grezhok. If they thought he was no longer within her I am sure we would find her body floating in space, discarded as useless."
"Logical," said T'Pri.
Yui looked at Captain Loewen. "My own changes are a result of these genetic mutations caused by this Grezhok. Qeritas has hinted that she can fix it all once Grezhok is gone, but not while he still exists within me. I beg you, Captain," She dropped to a knee like one kneeling before a king, but also honoring him for being the leader. "Let me go do this. Save my mother and rid the galaxy of this evil."
"Stand up, Yui." Loewen reached down and took her hand, bringing her back to her feet. "I'm a captain, not the Pope. Let's ask the one man with more authority in your life." His eyes shifted to Ken. "Mister Kudo?"
Ken had observed everything, and when his daughter dropped to her knee to honor the captain as the defacto shogun in their world and asked his permission to do this, his heart swelled. "I can't help but think this is her destiny, Captain, not ours. We have our own issues to deal with here at M-69. She will either succeed, or she won't. Let her go, Sir."
"I see," Sean said, with no sighs or negative expressions to denote his dissatisfaction with the choice. If he interfered he could possibly destroy all for which Yui and Ro had fought and suffered. That was not the Meji way. "Do what you need to do, Miss Yui. I grant you permission to proceed. God speed, and come back soon."
"Arigato, Captain, you honor me." Yui stepped in and hugged him tight about the waist, then stepped back.
"My question is how will you get there?" T'Pri asked.
Yui gave her a grin. "Transwarp beaming."
Borelli, at helm, spun his chair. "Transwarp beaming is just a theory. Montgomery Scott was never able to figure it out completely."
"He did, he just didn't see it right in front of his face," Yui proclaimed. "It never occurred to him to think of space as the thing that was moving. So, he still gets the credit for the discovery, I just saw it out of need."
T'Pri arched her eyebrow. "I am hesitant to admit that I never saw it, either. The equations are quite lengthy."
"But, complete," Yui responded. "The man was a prodigy, but even a genius can miss things now and then."
Griffon was amazed as he listened to Yui. She looked to be, what? Twelve? Maybe thirteen? Yet, she spoke like a scholar with a PhD in life itself. "I'll make sure she has everything she needs, Sir. May I borrow Mister Kudo to aid in this?"
"Go ahead, gentlemen. Yui needs to get our Fleet Captain back. Carry on." Loewen said and then turned back to his chair.
Yui stepped in and hugged T'Pri, who actually gave her a friendly hug in return, looking up into her eyes when she stepped back. "I'll be back to start my classes, teacher. You have my word."
"I will hold you to that," T'Pri said, lifting her hand in salute. "Live long and prosper, Yui Kudo."
The men got Yui moving, stepping into the lift. Captain Sean Loewen, watching them leave, had a distinct feeling that he would see both Yui and Ro Kudo alive and well very soon.
