After securing the Romulan Bird of Prey at cloaked, all stop beneath the USS Capernum, Captain Ro Kudo was set to beam herself and Yui over to the station. They still had their own after action reports to disclose and log with Starfleet Command. Yui was not Starfleet, but Ro was, and the capture of an enemy vessel demanded the after action report be as accurate as possible. With that in mind, both females remained aboard the BoP, accessing the internal sensor logs from the Reman ship, and then working together and conferring, they told everything about what had happened. All of it, even the crazy Godzilla moments Yui was able to pull off since it had also been visually recorded by the internal sensors. Lying on an official report could ruin careers and, at times, send officers to prison. Ro did not relish the idea of breaking out of a prison because she sure as hell would not stay there, and beyond that, there was no reason to lie. Events spoke for themselves.
Several hours had passed, with mother and daughter finishing their own perceptions of events, adding them together and into the log. Ro leaned back in her chair in this conference room they had found. "I hate paperwork."
Yui grinned at that. Even as they had been filing their reports she began to feel odd. It was not a feeling of anxiety, but more about her body realizing that certain changes had taken place. Or, were taking place. Her hearing was more acute than ever, her sense of smell heightened. With the enhanced, acute hearing, of her ears combined with her eyebrows and finite hairs of her head and face acting as a form of whiskers, Yui was obtaining a great deal of sensory information through these organs. Even now, she could detect electrical fields, changes in air density and temperature, and sub-sonic sounds. Through subtle adjustments, her ears would bend and slightly turn to take in information, giving her a sonar-like detection ability similar to that of Terran bats. The odd thing was it did not confuse her at all, with her brain taking it in and accepting what it was given by instinct.
Ro's badge warbled and then a man's voice came over the speakers. "Admiral Stone to Captain Kudo. Respond." Kudo's face came up from reading and she tapped the badge.
"Captain Kudo, here. Go ahead, Admiral."
Stone maintained his flag officer demeanor. "Good to hear your voice, Captain. The attack on M-69 has rattled some cages and brought the entire Federation Council out of complacency. Having said that I am inbound and will drop from warp in approximately three minutes. When we signal you and your companion will immediately be beamed aboard the USS Nautilus. This is not open for discussion, Captain, it's an order."
Ro felt the tension. The after action report had been sent out over an hour ago and Starfleet was already reacting. And, not in a calm manner. Something was up. "Understood, Admiral. We await your signal."
"Good choice, Captain. Stone, out." The channel was cut.
Before Yui or Ro could speak up on the sudden anxiety from Starfleet, Qeritas appeared and stood between them, able to reach out and touch both if she chose to. At the moment she refrained even as she began to speak. She did hold her hands out, one for each, inviting ladies to grasp them. "Take my hands, quickly."
Ro, not in the mood for this, became agitated at the sight of the problematic Q. "Now is not a good time, Q. What do you want?"
"Yui to remain free," Qeritas said, her eyes locked onto Ro's, with no hint of mirth or mischief. "They are coming to take her, Ro. If I have never spoken the truth to you before as you believe, I am doing it now. Take my hands and I will prove it."
Yui, upon hearing that, clasped hands with Qeritas. Ro, hesitating slightly, did the same. Just as they clasped the hands of the Q, a shimmering transporter signal sounded within the BoP conference room, a team of six Security personnel in full tactical gear materializing. They looked rather surprised as their heads turned this way and that as they were not seeing the two people they were sent to retrieve.
Ro spoke in a low, secretive tone. "What's this about, Qeritas?"
Now, having secured her charges, Qeritas returned to her more normal self. "No need to whisper, Ro. We're secure in the aether so long as you maintain your hold on me. They can walk right through you and still not know you're there."
Feeling trepidation entering herself, Yui looked to mom and Q, the fear plain in her eyes. "Why are they taking me?" Tears welled in her eyes. Again, she was a freak.
"The gift you asked for, sweety," Qeritas explained. "It scares them. Not only that but, you were annihilated by antimatter, yet here you are. There were 'glitches' in the internal sensor logs for the Bridge when the Q showed up to assist. To the outside observer they were never there."
Ro's fury was apparent in her eyes even as she clenched her jaw and pursed her lips to prevent a tirade from spewing forth. Instead, a low tone full of malice came forth. "Once again, the Q Continuum screws over organics. Thanks, Q." Her gaze burned a hole through Qeritas, all the blame in her soul aimed right at the one most involved. "There is no end to the misery you bring to me and my family. My own dad is out there, rolling at us like a freight train, to arrest me. To arrest my daughter." As the three spoke about the what and why, the Security team left two in the room, the other four leaving the chamber and heading out to the rest of the ship to search it.
Qeritas nodded at Ro, maintaining her calm. "That is why I am here, Ro. To represent the Continuum and speak to the Federation as an envoy. If they will not listen then I am authorized to use extreme measures to see that Yui is treated like any other sentient being, and she is to remain free. Also, your dad lied to you. The USS Nautilus is already here, sitting at extreme transporter range, with the Admiral in command. The plan was to scoop you up and head for Earth and take you before the UFP Council."
The four other Security returned shortly, with one of them tapping his earpiece comm. "Admiral, Lt. Costa, here. It's a no go, Sir. They are not in the conference room nor any other part of the ship. I think we got duped, Sir."
"How is that possible?" Stone asked, not expecting an answer to a rhetorical question. "RTB, Lieutenant." The order was acknowledged and the Security team beamed out within a minute. Another surprise came about when Ro and Yui lost sight of the room in a moment of darkness and then appeared in the Admiral's Ready Room, standing in front of his desk as he was seated behind it rubbing his brow in frustration. His eyes were downcast so he did not see the guests arrive. However, internal sensors detected two unauthorized beings now standing in the Ready Room and the intruder alert began to sound off. Qeritas was not detected even though she stood there. Aaron's eyes came up when the klaxon began to sound, ready to contact the Bridge and found out where the boarders were detected.
"Hi, dad," Ro said, not smiling, showing complete calm.
Admiral Stone stood up and went to tap his badge, his arm freezing in place before contact. He could not move anything but his eyes. A beautiful, unknown woman stood with his daughter, a young female who was supposed to be Yui, his granddaughter, and raised a wagging finger at him. "Ah, ah, ah, Admiral." The hand changed from a wagging finger to someone ready to snap her fingers. "We need to talk."
"Since you lied to me, I will use your position, Admiral." Ro stated. "Call off the alarm, we're friendly. If she snaps her fingers there is no telling what could happen. It's her warning sign that things are about to go sideways; her way."
Qeritas let her hand reshape from a finger snap position to motioning at him to continue. Yui piped in as she did that. "The finger snap doesn't have to happen, Sir. It's merely a polite formality."
Aaron Stone took what was said to heart, knowing a full Security team had to be forming outside of the Ready Room. If they breached there was no telling what this unknown woman was prepared to do. He tapped his badge. "Bridge, secure from intruder alert. All is well. Captain Kudo and her guests have arrived in my office. Again, stand down and carry on. That's an order." The order was acknowledged and confirmed. Once that was done, Aaron came around his desk to be closer to Ro, and possibly Yui, even though his eyes could not believe it despite having seen the log files. "Alright, one emergency averted. Now what?"
Qeritas stepped forward and extended a hand. "Hello, Admiral Stone. I am Qeritas, a member of the Q Continuum, and the advocate for my two charges; Yui Kudo, and Captain Ro Kudo."
With Ro standing right there Aaron had no reason to believe he would be harmed so he shook the hand in good faith. "Nice to finally put a face to the name I've heard from the Captain on occasion."
Their hands separated and Qeritas grinned. "Nice to meet you too. You're a good father. Let's hope it stays that way."
Ro gave a wince as Qeritas put it that way to her dad, lip-syncing 'sorry' to him for how off-putting the Q could be.
Yui, having never met her grandad, stepped forward with child-like excitement. Ro placed a hand on her shoulder to keep her from going any further than one step. "Yui, we need to explain things first. Trust me, Little Fox, he wants to hug you just as badly but duty has to come first."
For the first time in her life Yui looked up and over at her mom and wrenched her shoulder free of her grasp, an angry expression on her face. "Yeah? Well, I'm not Starfleet and that is my grandfather." She ran the meter to the man and embraced him.
Aaron, seeing the minor dispute between mom and daughter, was taken aback when the girl stated her position and then came in and hugged him hard. He was hesitant to hug back too much, but as the girl held on, his resolve folded and he hugged her like he had hugged Ro as a girl. With love and acceptance. As she stepped back he smiled. "Glad to meet you, Yui. Hard to believe it's you with all I've read from several sources but I will take you at your word for now. Is that fair?"
"Totally," said Yui with a smile, looking back at mom who was now smiling. She stood tall and proud at right around five feet, with Ro seeing she would probably attain a height near her own; 5'6" to 5'8". Placing her hands on her hips like a sassy girl at the cusp of her teen years, Yui gave mom a knowing look. "See, mama. Grandads know."
With the ice broken by the love of a girl for her grandpa, everyone got beverages and a bite to eat, discussing the issue that had brought an admiral all the way out here. Before they all got comfortable, Stone made sure that M-69 knew that Captain Kudo was safe aboard the USS Nautilus, and that she was to be questioned by the Federation Council, with the Nautilus providing the ride as both Captain Kudo and Yui were now detained until the meeting took place. Commodore Sureth and Captain Vehn deserved to know why their Fleet Captain was nowhere to be found after the latest confrontation. Aaron assured them that she would be on her way back as soon as the Council was finished with them.
