New Officer

Mission:
STELLAR NURSERY
Location: USS Capernum
Timeline: Current
ON:
Lieutenant Resch and Commander Loewen arrived in transporter room four, the operator standing behind her console awaiting them. The younger LTjg gave them a nod. "The officer is ready to beam over, Sirs."
Both men positioned themselves side by side, casually facing the pads. "Energize," Loewen stated. The machinery was activated and within moments the shimmering light of the transporter formed into a person and then died away as the new arrival remained standing there wearing form fitting black Starfleet trousers tucked into boots, and a gold shirt that was reminiscent of times past but still approved as uniform wear.
Regina "Regi" Green had taken in a breath and held it as the transporter enveloped her, the transport's transporter room disappearing from view even as a new, brighter lit chamber replaced it. The transporter room on a true starship meant for more than hauling people and cargo. Two men stood just below the steps of the transporter pads, another woman behind the console even as Green let out her held breath quietly. Getting her particles zipped from place to place was never a favorite pastime but she trusted Starfleet technology...for the most part. She cleared her throat and spoke as she gave a pleasant grin. "Lieutenant Regi Green reporting as ordered, Commander. Permission to come aboard?" She adjusted her duffle bag slung on her left shoulder.
Loewen gave her a grin in return, seeing Resch doing the same. "Permission granted Lt. Green. Please." He made a gesture for her to step down and stepped back a pace to allow her room to do so without having to go around the two of them. "I'm Commander Sean Loewen, Number One for the Capernum. This is Lt. Griffon Resch, Security Chief."
Resch extended his right hand. "Welcome aboard, Lt. Green." His efforts were met with a firm but friendly handshake.
"Thank you, gentlemen. It's been a long ride."
Loewen had an eyebrow raised as he read her file, a curiosity coming to mind as he did so even as the other two kept chatting.
"Why didn't you come aboard before we warped out?" Resch asked. "Woulda made the trip a little less cramped I'm sure."
"Oh, it would have," Green replied with a crooked smile. "But, there were some freight hands on the transport that got together for poker every night. Not a big score by any means but, money is money when you win it fair and square." She unzipped a pocket on her duffle that was forward towards the men, reaching inside and fumbling around, the distinct sound of metallic pieces clanking together before her hand came out filled with strips of latinum. "See?" Regi dropped them back in the pocket and zipped it up. "They didn't figure a good little Starfleet lieutenant would know how to play her hands right."
Resch gave a chuckle and a smile. "Nice. There's a nightclub on M-69 that you can spend that at. I'll introduce you to the owner. Good man."
"Thanks," Regi responded with a nod and smile. She then noted the quizzical look on the Commander's face. "You okay, Commander? Or, did they spell something wrong?"
"Hmm?" Sean's face came up and then his brain caught up to the moment. "Oh...no. Just curious."
"About?" Resch asked.
"Your name is Green, Lieutenant. Any relation to Captain Rogue Green?" Loewen asked.
Regi gave an expression of reticence. Not dramatic, but one could tell it was something she was not comfortable discussing. "Since you're my XO, Commander, I'll admit it. Yes. She is my second cousin on my dad's side." Her eyes went back and forth between the two handsome men, her own expression now askance. "Why? Is there something I should know beyond the fact that she is the Fleet Captain out here?" Both men looked at each other with smiles, then as their eyes met they gave a knowing chuckle to each other, obviously best friends sharing a moment. They ended that moment with shakes of the head.
"You wanna tell her or should I?" Griffon asked, with Sean gesturing for him to go ahead. Resch looked back to Lt. Green. "Regi, is it?" He got a nod yes. "Okay. Captain Kudo is the CO of the USS Capernum, currently. She is on the Bridge right now seeing to escorting the transports to M-69. You did know she got married and had a change of name, correct?"
"Of course. The whole family knows. We've all met Ken. He's a good sort. But, she is captain of this ship and the Fleet Captain?" Green asked.
"She is," Loewen answered. "I stepped down to XO for a while to see to my family since my wife is due any day now. Plus, I like being an XO. We'll see where it all lands once my daughter has a few weeks to grow."
"Congratulations on the little one, Sir." Regi said with a smile, her tone well-meaning. "I am an Ops officer, but I have training in Security, Flight Control, Sciences and Engineering. Most of my veteran relatives were engineers, including my second cousin Ro."
"I'll take her, Commander," Resch popped out. "Security can always use computer slicers to get us into and out of places." He then reached out and squeezed her left bicep a few times, just hard enough to judge muscle mass before his hand came away. "She's built like her cousin. Must be a Green family trait."
"We do like our physical activities," Green admitted.
Loewen looked at Resch, then to Green. "So, Lt. Green. Which will be your primary, Security or Ops?"
"My first love is Operations, Commander," Green responded. "As long as I get to play in that arena, what department I am assigned to is secondary. If Mister Resch needs another Security officer I will gladly fill that billet. Just know, Lt., I will tinker with everything. I come from a family of veterans that chose engineering seven times out of ten."
Griffon smiled at that, liking her forthright honesty. "I can deal with that as long I don't need a cell that you have down for maintenance every time I turn around."
"Deal," Green responded with a giggle.
Loewen watched the two of them getting acquainted. She was a lot like her cousin. He made the adjustment to the crew manifest. "Miss Green, if our Ops Chief needs you for anything just know you will be assigned by myself or the Captain when needed. Other than that, you are now in Security. I see that you've been in the fleet for a couple of years now, and recently got promoted to LT. Congratulations. That tells me you know your job. Says here you are a tactical security officer. Space combat only, or did you partake in soldier training?"
"I took both, Number One." Green answered. "Starship boarding actions, tactical urban fighting, various terrains, all of it along with all the standard tactical training for space combat. Small craft and starships. Also, with your permission, I would like to volunteer for away teams whenever they go out. Idle hands make me fidget."
Sean gave a chuckle. He made a few taps on his PADD, out of her line of sight, of course. "We'll see what you're made of, and then Mister Resch can let me know how efficient he feels you can be. We go from there."
Green gave a nod and grin. "That's fair, Sir."
"Alright," Loewen said, changing the angle of the conversation. "Griff, her quarters are set. Give her the walk and talk and then the tour if she'd like." He shook Green's hand. "Good to meet you, Regi. I think you'll fit right in. You two have fun." With that he gave a dramatic slap to Griff's shoulder, spun on his heel and walked out.
Green noted Resch chuckling and shaking his head as Sean had slapped his arm and then beat feet. Their little show for new personnel, to see if they are curious enough to ask. "If you'll come with me, Miss Green." He motioned for the new officer to join him in leaving the transporter room. So, she did so. They walked through the ship and he took her to her new quarters, her own cabin assigned to junior officers with seniority in service time over others. Her own living space with a shared bathroom between the two cabins, each with their own side to the bathroom. Her own toilet, sink area and mirror, and jacuzzi tub/shower. However, when one was naked inside the neighbor could just walk in and see you, but being naked in front of others did not bother her since it was all part of serving. At home, she'd break a nose if a person walked in on her in the bathroom, male or female. Once her bag was dropped off she then asked for the tour, which he was glad to oblige.
