Mission: SHAKE DOWN IN A NEBULA
Location: Infirmary
Timeline: After arrival at Aurelia

With the new station up and running for business Isabelle had been setting up her new office while she had the maternity leave time to do it. At first she’d felt like she’d overdone the exertion of moving her things, she hadn’t been sure whether or not she was experiencing labour pains until her water broke at which point she had made straight for the infirmary.

Walking into the infirmary she met Heidi with a worried expression. “My water broke!” Having never had a chance to give birth to Connor, this was a whole new experience.

"Well, looks like the baby wants out. Come be me and we'll get you situated" Nurse Stone replied with a smile before tapping her comm "Doctor Williams please come to Maternity Room One." Walking into a brand new room with all the latest tech available, Heidi went to the wall cabinet and grabbed some clothing. Turning she handed them to Isabelle "Please change into these; they're much more suitable for having a baby. I'll be right outside the room should you need help and Doctor Williams will be along very soon." Walking to the door Heidi stated "Computer initiate privacy mode" as the glass changed and was no longer transparent.

Isabelle did as instructed, she had read plenty about birth but she wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. She was excited but afraid all at the same time.

Several minutes later Heidi returned walking into the room "I see you're all set" as she noticed Isabelle being a little anxious "Relax Counselor, you're in great hands here" she reassured Isabelle.

Moments later Doctor Williams walked into the room with a smile "Isabelle, how are you feeling" he inquired as he took his scanner and scanned her belly and nether region "The baby is making it's way into the birthing canal so it should not be long before you start going into labor" he explained .

“That’s what I’m afraid of” Isabelle offered a brief smile. “I never had the chance to give birth during my previous pregnancy, he was taken from my body, not that I remember much of it. I’d like John and my father here, if that’s okay?”

"Absolutely; I'm sure they would want to be a part of the miracle" Williams answered before tapping his comm "Commodore Sureth and 2nd Lieutenant John Dallas please come to Medical Operations, Deck Eleven, Birthing Room One" came the request. Nurse Stone will stay her with you until they get here and I'll check in on you in a few minutes" as Williams turned and went to check on another patient.

Nurse Stone sat on a stool by Isabelle's bio-bed "So any thought a some names for the soon to arrive little bundle of joy" Heidi inquired trying to get her mind off the current situation for a few minutes.

Isabelle shook her head. “Not yet, we have a list but we haven’t finalised our choice yet, looks like we’ll need to soon.” She paused. “I need my father to help me with my meditation, I never was that well practiced with my Vulcan meditation, but it’ll help with pain relief.”

John had just landed his sabre and quickly ran from the hanger deck to the lift.

Sureth of course was on the stations command bridge when he received the call.

[ I am on my way.] Sureth replied.

One lift up and one going down both arriving with in a minute of each other to sickbay. John was first but Sureths arrival was felt too.
" Isabella!" Sureth called out.

Isabelle smiled as she saw and heard both arrivals. “Am I glad you’re both here!” She held out her hand for John to hold needing that reassurance of his presence. Father I need your help with my meditation, I can’t go through this without it.”

Now that everyone was present Williams scanned Isabelle "Soon very soon you should start feeling the contractions stating" as he pressed a button raising the patient tunnel over her stomach area "This should lessen the labor pain somewhat and along with the Vulcan meditation your delivery should be tolerable; Nurse Stone will be with you every step of the way as shall I" Ramvek reassured Isabelle.

Isabelle nodded. “I understand.”

~A few hours later~

Isabelle lay back on the raised head of the biobed, her one hand gripping John’s hand, while she concentrated on her meditation as labour progressed. Once her contractions had started it all seemed to go seamlessly quick, with her father’s help and the help of the tunnel her pain was reduced to a tolerable level.

“How much…longer?” She asked hoping that labour would soon be over, she was getting tired which wasn’t helping her ability to meditate.

Ramvek leaned over to Heidi and in a low voice so as to not be overheard "I'll let you check her vaginal area; I feel too awkward with both her husband and father standing there" he explained.

Heidi grinned "As you wish Doctor" before walking to the end of the bio-bed "Ok Isabelle let's see what's going on down there." Looking up "I can just see the very top of the head so in about an hour we'll have to get serious about your birth."

“An hour!?” Isabelle gave Heidi a tired look. “I just want to get this over with now.”

Wanting to make Isabelle feel better, Stone smiled "I can only imagine. Try to relax this will all be over before you know it" she replied feeling for her.

~One Hour Later~

Nurse Stone checked Isabelle to see where things were at "Ah.....perfect. Looks like it's time to get the show on the road" she informed everyone before tapping her comm "Doctor Williams Delivery Room One, stat." Being the experienced Nurse that she was, Heidi went to the cabinet and grabbed a few things.

Moments later Doctor Williams came rushing in "We good?" he inquired ready to get to work.

"Yes Doctor....it's time" Nurse Stone answered.

Adjusting the lighting for a better view of things, Ramvek looked up at Isabelle "Ok, Momma.....I want you to push at a steady pace....this will be over before you know it."

Isabelle nodded. “I’ll do this, I can do it.” She clenched hold of John’s hand hoping she wasn’t hurting him.

"Yes you can. Ok slow and steady when you are ready" Williams stated as Isabelle began to push for about a minute "The head is out.......the shoulders" looking up at Isabelle "Rest a moment......alright here we go.....one last big push" as Williams watched the baby's body come into full view "Relax Isabelle...you are finished" Ramvek gently moved his hand over the babies chest quickly until he heard the baby let out a loud cry. Nurse Stone handed him some scissors and a clamp allowing him to clap then clip the cord. Looking at everyone as he held the newborn "Everyone it is a healthy baby girl.....congratulations" he commented as he handed the baby to Isabelle.

Isabelle smiled wiping away happy tears as she cradled her daughter. “Thank you Ramvek, and you too Heidi.” She looked up at John. “She’s gorgeous!”

" Of course she is she is your daughter. What do you think Grand pa?" John replied.

" She is remarkable. Well done Isabella. This is inaugural the first baby born on the new station." Sureth replied.
" That sets the bar real high."

Williams had to chuckle at Sureth's remark wondering if it really was the new base or because it was his grand-daughter "We'll let you all have some family time but not too long; Isabelle needs her rest" he commented them continued "Isabelle I would like you and the baby to spend the night here for observations just so we know everything is as it seems. Tomorrow at twelve hundred hours you and your beautiful baby girl can return to your quarters" he strongly suggested.

Isabelle nodded as she rested her head back stifling a yawn. “That sounds fine to me, I’m too tired to go anywhere right now anyway.”

~Next Day~

Doctor Williams walked into Isabelle's room about mid morning "So how are you feeling this morning" he inquired with a smile.

“Not too bad” Isabelle smiled warmly. “I managed a good sleep between feeds.”

Williams had to chuckle "Yes unfortunately a new mother sleeps when she can" as he grabbed his scanning device "Ok let's see how you are really doing" as he ran the scanner over her body "Looks good to me" he exclaimed "The baby checked out as well so after lunch you both are free to leave Medical Operations" as Ramvek started to turn then didn't "A few last things. Anything comes up with you or the baby please come back here so we can take a look. Take the next six weeks off so you can concentrate on being a mother. One last thing no intercourse until your six weeks checkup.....that is unless you want to do this all over again....plus your body needs time to get back to normal."

Isabelle nodded. “Of course, don’t worry I’ll be too tired to even think about it” she grinned.

Ramvek chuckled "I can only imagine; although I do not have any point of reference. Anyway I will see you and your daughter back here in six weeks for your checkups. Please enjoy your time with your family while you are able to" he commented with a smile.
