Peel - Arriving At The Colony

~ Bridge ~

After having a few meetings to bring some of the Crew up to speed for the mission, Captain O'Connell walked back onto the Bridge "Commander Vehn report" he ordered as he approached the conn.

Shauna smiled as she moved across to her seat to allow Jamie to take his. “We’re in standard orbit now Sir, I’ve ordered planetary scans more for our records than anything else. I thought I’d wait for you before contacting the surface.”

Jamie sat momentarily "Thank you Number One and yes scans will be helpful for the reports once we return" as he returned her smile "Communications please hail the Colony" came the order as he stood and took his usual place behind Helm straightening his top as he went.

"All set Captain" Comms Officer replied.

"New Hope Colony this is the Federation Starship USS Peel, Captain Jamie O'Connell commanding" he stated waiting for a reply. Moments later the screen showed an older gentleman, greying hair, probably in his fifties wearing a uniform with ribbons on his chest and a sash over one shoulder extending to the waist.

"Captain O'Connell, I'm Governor Sedon, thank you for coming to help us get on track" he replied in a bit of a husky voice.

"Our pleasure Governor. We have already briefed some of our Officers on your situation so when would you like us to send you the first group" O'Connell inquired still standing fast.

"No need to be in any kind of hurry Captain. I would very much would like you and your second in command to beam down so I can take you on a tour of our habitat and give you a better idea of what we need from you and some of your crew" he commented "And I would like you to be my guests for an evening meal in your honor."

Hearing the Governor, Jamie thought for a brief moment "I think that can be arranged" he replied sort of looking forward to seeing exactly what this habitat was really like.

"Excellent Captain. I'll send you the beam in coordinates....say in one hour we'll meet here" Sedon replied.

"Of course...we'll see you soon" O'Connell answered then the screen went back to a view of space showing New Hope Colony.

Turning to Maria "A word Lieutenant SanChez" as Jamie walked over by the ready room so as not be overheard.

SanChez walked over "Yes Captain?"

Lowering his voice "I just want to make sure you're ok with taking command since you're fairly new at being Second Officer" he commented with a smile.

"Absolutely Sir" then she paused "Unless you don't think I'm ready yet" she inquired.

"No...please... I wasn't inferring you're not ready I just want to make sure you're comfortable being in command for a few hours" Jamie answered in an apologetic manner.

Maria smiled "Like I said no problem Captain besides you are just a comm call away should anything dire happen. No please you and the Commander go take the tour and enjoy yourselves.....you've certainly earned it Sir."

Jamie smiled back "Good and yes we are only a call away but I'm sure you'll be just fine and do a remarkable job as well." The two Officers returned to the conn as O'Connell sat looking to Shauna "Well Commander looks like we get to play hooky for awhile."

“It should be interesting” Shauna smiled. “It’ll be nice to be a guest of honour.”

About forty five minutes later the Captain stood "Lieutenant SanChez the ship is yours; call if you need us" he stated as the Commander stood as well.

"As you wish Captain" as Maria motioned for her relief at Tactical then walked over to the center chair. In a whisper "Have fun you two" she commented with a grin.

Jamie and Shauna entered the lift "Transporter Room One" came the request. Exiting O'Connell handed the Operator the coordinates before he stepped onto the pad beside Shauna. Turning to her "Ready?" before calling out "Energize." Moments later they were gone.

~ New Hope Colony ~

Materializing at the given coordinates Jamie and Shauna look around the area. A huge long brightly lighted area with benches to sit on on the perimeter walls, large windows giving a view of space, all kinds of plants, flowers, small tress all held in big planter containers, and shiny floors. Turning to Shauna "Look at this place, it's amazing" Jamie commented trying to take everything in all at once.

“It sure is” Shauna nodded as she looked around. “I could spend a holiday here.”

But before Jamie could respond to Shauna's statement Governor Sedon walked up to them "Welcome Captain O'Connell, Commander Vehn. I hope you find our little oasis to your liking" as he shook both Officer's hands "What your standing in is the Intake Area where all residents who live here came through as well as any guests that may arrive" he explained with a smile.

"This is certainly quite a beautiful area. So how many areas are there on this Colony" Jamie inquired quite intrigued as to what the response might be.

"If you'd care to walk with me I'll give you the grand tour" Sedon commented as the two Officers proceeded with their Host "This is one of four Modules each containing four decks. This is Deck 1 which also contains a large Recreational area/Lounge for our inhabitants. If at any time you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Next we'll proceed to Deck 2 which is our residential area and well as part of Deck 3."

When they arrived at the Residential area the Governor walked up to a door to one of the suites and opened it "Please after you" as he gestured for them to enter.

Entering Jamie couldn't believe how nice the suite was seeing a large living room with windows showing a view of space, couch in the middle with a low table featuring a holo screen and a chair across from the couch, plants and small trees in planter boxes, a small Kitchen. The second room had a large bed, two night stands, and another screen over the bed to access Habitat information, and a bathroom to the left "This is nicer than my quarters abroad ship" he replied with a light chuckle.

“This is amazing” Shauna smiled as she nodded in agreement with Jamie’s statement. “Do all your citizens have the same level of comfort?”

"Glad you like what you see and to answer your question......yes they do Commander that way we don't have to choose who lives where and no one feels slighted" the Governor replied "Let's continue to Deck 3 and I'll show you the Crew's shared quarters."

Once they arrived on Deck 3 Sedon led them to the Crew's quarters "As you can see we have four Crew to one quarters. With about 1,000 Crew we were forced to double up the occupancy. Each room has two sets of bunks, one set on the two walls, a living area to the right, and four sets of drawers for clothes and their personal effects. Each bed had a computer screen and we also have provided some plants in each area to feel more like a home and not just Quarters. At the end of each Quarters is a shared bathroom which each occupant is responsible for their own sanitation" Sedon explained.

“I can imagine it must have been quite a task organising all of this, but it’s been done beautifully.” Shauna smiled.

"Thank you Commander and yes it was quite the task but in the end it seems to have worked out well" the Governor replied returning her smile. "Now if you'll come with me we'll head to Deck 4; there's something I would like to show you both."

Entering Deck 4 Sedon turned "There two areas I'll forego showing you; one is a full gymnasium and the other is our holodeck. I figure if you've seen one gym and holodeck you've most likely seen them all" he commented with a chuckle. "What I'm about to show you is, I think, one of the nicest areas on the Colony." Minutes later they walked into this beautiful extremely large area "This is the Garden Relaxation area and is my favorite area."

Looking around the Officers could see winding carpeted sidewalks, tons of stacked flat rocks forming planting areas filled with beautiful plants, flowers, and small trees around the perimeter. Looking straight ahead was a small waterfall flowing into a pond filled with different types of fish. At different locations were overstuffed couches and chairs for relaxing. Also were numerous holo lanterns to give a peaceful ambiance.

"This is absolutely gorgeous!" Jamie stated as he looked at Shauna with a smile "I could see getting lost in here for hours just relaxing and listening to the sound of rushing water."

"Like I said this is one of my favorite areas on the Colony" as the Governor paused a moment "After the tour is complete it'll be a couple of hours before dinner is served so you may return here and enjoy the ambiance while you wait."

Looking towards Shauna "Would you like to hang out here after the tour before dinner" Jamie inquired with a smile.

Shauna nodded and smiled. “I think that would be a lovely idea, it’s so relaxing here I could sit here forever more.”

"Good choice" Sedon replied with a grin "I'll have one of my staff swing by and escort you to dinner. There are two more places I would like to show you. On Module 2 are various agricultural decks and on Module 3 is our science and research area. Module 4 is strictly industrial fabrication so I won't bore you with all that. So let's proceed to Module 2."

Arriving at Module 2 Sedon turned "Each of the four decks is a complete farming area. This particular one is dedicated to hydroponics" as they entered the area "Everything grown here is grown in an enhanced vitamin water. We grow mostly vegetables on this deck to keep our population healthy without the use of replication" he explained as you could see rows and rows upon rows of specialized growing areas.

Looking around "This is a fantastic idea having all your own fresh foods growing. I have to confess being aboard ship you do get tired of replicated food and jump at the chance for fresh" as he paused "Although being Captain I do have my own small kitchen in my quarters and most of my food is fresh but is held in a special stasis chamber. I do treat my Senior Officers to a home cooked meal every so often" Jamie explained with a grin.

“A wonderful chef needs good ingredients” Shauna smiled warmly. “I wish we had facilities like this aboard ship.”

"That's nice to hear.....I tell you what before you go back to your ship I'll make sure you have a sample of our produce to take with you" Sedon replied.

After spending some time there they moved on to Module 3 "This is dedicated to science and research with labs for Biology, Chemistry, and a few more different labs as well" he explained as they walked along before entering another area "And this is our Medical Facility with the latest technology our planet had available."

"Wow this place is enormous" Jamie stated as he saw about forty bio-beds along one very long wall and some testing equipment along the other with all kinds of readout screens above each bed and equipment.

"This is one of the areas we need your help with. Our Doctors are all licensed so that's fine; the Nurses however were trained quickly and need some additional training by your people. And since we are on the subject Science we could use a little help with food production and security is the biggest area of concern for me" the Governor explained.

"Some of my medical people can certainly help with the nursing situation and my Chief Science Officer I'm sure can guide your people" then Jamie paused "As far as Security, my Chief of Security and a squad of Marines will get your people in shape in short order" Jamie replied not wanting to sound like he was bragging.

"That would be greatly appreciated Captain O'Connell and whatever your people can do would be most helpful" Sedon replied with a smile "That about concludes our tour so follow be and we'll go back to the Garden Relaxation area. I do have a few things to attend to and also make sure you have a delicious dinner to look forward to."
