Station Post #02 " On the Brink "

< Starbase M-69 >

The Helthian Skipper, fearing for his life had asked for immunity. Immunity from the Assul Empire who had hired his ship and crew to kidnap a female named Mirana.

Sureth called together is senior officers and the local JAG officer to discuss this issue.

" Thank you all for coming. I am at odds on this issue and require input from you all before making this decision." Sureth stated.

< BRIG >

The Helthian Skipper stretched itself and walked with security to the interrogation room. Waiting on him was JAG officer General Monroe Thirman. Their meeting lasted 30 minutes and the Skipper was returned to his cell.

General Thirman then went to sickbay and spoke with Mirana, the captive female.

< Staff Mtg >

After that meeting General Thirman joined Sureth and the others in the staff meeting.

" Welcome General Thirman. My senior staff have been discussing the Helthian situation." Sureth greeted.

" I would be interested in knowing your consensus. The Helthian has a legitimate request for asylum. " Thirman replied.

Doctor Williams couldn't help but speak his mind "With respect General, I do not believe he does. The state that I found Mirana in was nothing short of deplorable; not to mention her physical abuse" he stated then continued "Giving someone like that asylum, in my opinion, is not sending a very good message to others concerning the Federation's philosophy."


Thirman looked to Dr Williams and then replied.

" The Helthians are a subjugated species of the Assul Empire. Lower cast and apparently this ships Captain fears for his and his crews life. The girl is also from a claimed race of the Assul. She wants to stay here too. Apparently she says she belongs to whomever released her from the cacoon."

Ramvek thought for a few moments before commenting not wanting to get himself on the wrong side of things "I understand your reasoning General and if giving the Helthians asylum saves their lives then I can live with that" then he paused for a moment before continuing "As far as Mirana being my property; let's just say no one should belong to anyone but themselves."

" We all agree with that, hence this meeting. With the Peel and Nazgul away on assignments the station will not be able to call very many ships for assistance should we face the Assul. There for do we honor this request or leave them to their own fate? The girl on the other hand will need to be spoken to by the Counselor ." Sureth replied.

Doctor Williams stood pondering Sureth's question for a few minutes; of course his Patient was his primary concern "If the Azzul are the mighty warriors that they are depicted to be" then he paused a moment "Do we risk the entire Station for those seeking asylum. A wise Vulcan once stated.....the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few."

" Using that premise What would you suggest Doctor Williams? " General Thirman replied.

Letting out a sigh "If the Azzul want the Helthians then rather than risk the entire Station, logically they should go with them" then he paused "Not that I like the idea but it would seem our options are limited given the availability of any sort of help."



< Sickbay >

Mirana remained in sickbay and seemed restfully asleep but inside her mind wrestled with dark demons she had never seen. Trying to awaken Mirana cried out...


< Entrance to the Lagoon Nebula >

A Federation buoy recorded the crossing of a Helthian freighter quickly entering the nebula but only because a even larger ship was in pursuit.

Seconds later the buoy network was taken off line by the Assul ship but not before relaying images to Starbase M-69 of the destruction of the Helthian freighter.

< Conference Room >

Sureth received the video and immediately played it for Captain Callaghan, Dr Ramvek and General Thirman.

" It would seem the Assul are heading this way. Sureth to OPS place the station on Yellow Alert. Captain Callaghan please take charge of Operations."

“Aye Sir” Shauna nodded. “May I ask what you’re going to do Sir?” She looked at Sureth. “Please tell me you’re staying onboard the station.”

" Yes Number One. No heroics for me. I will join you in OPS in a moment. Dr Ramvek go prepare your sickbay for casualties. General Thirman we will need to consider our options." Sureth replied.

"On my way Commodore. Let's hope the casualties are minimal and nothing serious" Williams replied then turned and headed for Sick bay.

" Totally understand Commodore. " Thirman replied.

Walking with Callaghan Sureth added " We will need to launch the Athena and communicate with Fleet Captain Taavis also."

“Understood Sir” Shauna nodded. “Let’s hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”
