Station Post # 52 Going Home

Mission: FINAL JUDGEMENT

After materializing back aboard the Peel, Jamie stepped off the pad before an Ensign commented "Welcome back Captain, so how was your mission" came the inquiry.

As O'Connell walked over to his Crew member "Thank you Ensign, it's good to be back. The mission was....educational" he replied then leaving he made his way to the nearest Lift "Deck 1 Bridge" came the request.

Exiting the Lift Jamie walk onto the Bridge "Number One report" the Captain ordered before walking to the conn.

Hearing Jamie's voice put a smile on Angel's face knowing her Captain was back safely aboard as she happily vacated the command chair. As they both sat Commander Devroe went into detail of what had transpired since the Captain left for M-69.

"Sounds like you had your hands full and of course you did a brilliant job keeping both the Crew and Ship safe; as I would have expected" Jamie stated with a smile.

"Thank you Captain, that means a lot coming from you" then Angel paused and lowered her voice so only Jamie could hear "Could we talk when it's convenient for you."

Wondering what was on her mind "Sure. Would you like to swing by my quarters for dinner, say seventeen hundred. Of course you may get pot luck for a meal" Jamie commented with a grin.

"Yes I'd like that" Angel replied with the same volume in her voice wanting to get what was off her chest sooner than later.

Then O'Connell stood and addressed the Bridge "I just want to tell you all how damn proud I am of you the way you all did your jobs admirably in my absence; well done and I do have one of the finest Crews in Star Fleet" then turning to Comms "Lieutenant open a ship wide please." Moments later "Attention Crew this is the Captain, we're going to be at the Base for the next week so please take this opportunity for some well deserved shore leave; standard rotation applies. O'Connell out."

Sitting back at command, Jamie looked over at Angel "I think this Crew deserves a break from routine for awhile" he commented.

"I couldn't agree with you more Captain" Angel replied with a smile.

After his shift was over Jamie went back to his quarters and threw together a meal for himself and Angel. At exactly seventeen hundred his door chime went off. Hearing his guest Jamie smiled "Enter" as the doors swooshed open and Angel walked in looking as lovely as ever.

With a smile "That smells really good for pot luck" she commented as she grabbed her usual seat across from Jamie at the island/table.

"Thankfully I had some left over beef stew and some crusty bread for dinner" he stated as he dished up a bowlful and placed it in front of her "Careful it's hot and there's some bread to go along with it' as he filled a bowl for himself then sat.

As they were eating Angel asked "So what was this mission you suddenly went on, since you suddenly disappeared from the Base."

Putting down his spoon and taking a sip of wine "Suddenly is an understatement. We were whisked away to another time way before any of us were even born. One minute I was on M-69 and the next.....well let's just say I'm really not sure where we were. I did, however, get to witness firsthand why the Assul are the way they are in their thinking" he explained "I apologize for not letting you know but like I said there was no time to do so."

"That's fine Jamie, I'm just glad you returned to us safe and sound" Angel replied then went on "As much as I would like my own command someday; that's not the way I want it to come about" as she smiled.

Jamie grinned "No that wouldn't be the way I'd want a command either but being in Star Fleet we unfortunately don't always have that option" he replied then paused a moment "So you mentioned there was something you wanted to talk to me about earlier" as they finished their meals.

"Yes there is.....but it's more of a personal nature" Angel stated while thinking of the best way to proceed so as not to hurt Jamie's feelings.

Jamie's heart went up into his mouth thinking she wanted a transfer but hoping he was wrong "Go on I'm listening" he replied.

"First off I want you to know how much I enjoy working together and also our free time together; it means the world to me" she stated then went on "But since you went on that mission I have been thinking that perhaps we should keep our relationship the way it now is and forget about anything intimate between us. I hope you understand but I think it would be the best for the Crew, the Ship, and us as well."

"Actually I've been thinking the same thing lately but didn't say anything" as a sigh of relief came over him "And to be honest I didn't know how to approach the subject without taking a chance of hurting your feelings which is the last thing I'd ever want to do. Thank you for just making my job easier as you always seem to do."

Angel grinned "That's what I'm hear for Captain, to make your job easier" then she paused as a thought went through her mind "You didn't think I was asking for a transfer did you" she inquired.

"Well the thought had crossed my mind. I know at some point it'll happen but until that day comes I want you by my side as my Number One as well as a very good friend that I also think the world of" he replied with sincerity in his voice.

Hearing Jamie say those things made Angel's heart feel full "I will be here as long as Star Fleet and you want me here. So we can continue on as we have been for the past year or so" she inquired "I sure would hate to miss out on your great cooking."

Jamie grinned "Absolutely and thank you for your continued support and council; it's one of the things that makes a good Captain" as he became more serious for a few moments.

After their meal together, which would continue to be be one of many, they saw to the dishes then went and sat on the couch and enjoyed a glass of wine together and talked for the next hour as colleagues and very good friends.

"I should be going and let you get some sleep, especially after your adventure into the past" Angel stated as she stood.

"I won't lie this time traveling thing is exhausting" Jamie replied with a grin "Sleep well Commander and I'll see you on the Bridge in the morning."

With a smile "You as well Captain and yes I'll see you tomorrow" she replied then turned and left for her own quarters.

Jamie grabbed another glass of wine then returned to the couch thinking "That was a very enlightening evening" as his thoughts shifted to Shauna.
