Station Post " When you least expect...."

David sat on the command chair on the bridge, he looked around "Okay, let's run the next test." he proclaimed.

An engineer at the station keyed in some commands then spoke "Internal power is coming on line, looks like the repairs and upgrades are holding."

Another of the crew at the operations station spoke next "Power level is rising to operation level, main systems are now online, power shows green."

David looked back to the engineer "Bring the engines to standby, go to full internal power."

There was a sudden whine as the internal power came up too full, David looked at the readouts he could see, things looked to be going fine, "Power levels are stable." a crewman called out.

"Let's bring the remaining systems online and see what happens." David said as he looked at his own readouts, "Bring the warp drive up to standby, signal station operations we're going for a spin around the block."

Just as the engines began their power up cycle there was a hissing noise two sections away, an alarm sounded drawing the attention of the engineer, seconds later a second alarm sounded "Power failure section C" pointing at the display, a third alarm sounded, this made the entire crew jump into action "Fire in section C, fire suppression is not responding, going to manual."

"Clear section C and seal it off." David called out.

"Sir two crew appear to be near the fire!" the engineer called out

David stood up and began to run toward the section, the corridor was already starting to fill with smoke, more alarms began to scream as David approached "Let's go! everybody out!" he called waving the crewmen away.

"Montoya and Hansen are still in there!" one of the fleeing crew said.

David ran in the thick smoke was choking, David coughed. "Montoya! Hansen!"

David struggled with the heat, he looked to his left seeing the two crew on the deck, one appeared to be pinned to the deck by a chunk of a broken strut, he ran over grabbing a section of the hand rail that had broken loose to pry the structural section up, he dragged the injured crewman out, it was Montoya. He looked around "Hansen!" he screamed.

David looked around "Wallace to Station ops we need medical down here yesterday!" David fumbled with the injured crewman to get away from the conflagration, David staggered toward the awaiting medic, soon as the medic took over David ran back in to look for the missing crew, his steps were interrupted by a blast of flame, heat, smoke and debris. A forcefield snapped on seconds later followed by a grey cloud as the fire suppression system came online, David stepped back leaning against the bulkhead opposite to the compartment opening, his uniform stained with ash, grease, and blood.

David was still leaning against the bulkhead ten minutes later, as one of the station medics examined him, two more emerged from the burned out compartment pushing a gurney with it's occupant covered by a sheet, David looked at it as he was rolled by, the realization of the situation became more real.

Shauna was barely out of Sickbay back on duty when the call came, making her way to the Athena she boarded arriving as someone who didn’t make it was removed from the ship. Making her way to David’s location she looked around. “Report, what happened?”

In a corridor below 2nd Lieutenant John Dallas heard the alarms.and quickly rushed to help the first responders.

"We were running a normal start up test, we'd finally managed to get the power problems beaten and decided to do some testing to figure out where the next issues were going to be, during an earlier test we discovered a number of systems jumpered and hotwired in ways that something as simple as a solar flare could knock out systems, so we made what we thought were slow methodical repairs, replacement and upgrades should kick the problem out the airlock." david paused as some of the stations technicians passed by "So we did a planned startup, reactor start up, life support and so on, then as we got to impulse engine start up there was a power surge that we couldn't stop in time, when the warp drive started to begin it's cycle up we had a fire alarm and seconds later the explosion took place." David looked back at the deck plates "By the time the safety controls kicked in the compartment was already on fire, I ran in I lifted Montoya up and tried to get back to get Hansen when the second explosion took place and the remaining safety features kicked in and smothered the fire."

" Are you injured?" John asked.

David paused, "It's Montoya's blood, he had a number of shrapnel wounds from the explosions along with burns."

" Well we need to get you and everyone to safety sir. It appears the fire is contained but the smoke could cause respiratory issues." John replied.

“Let’s get everyone out of here” Shauna paused a memory of something fire related in her mind from the memories of her symbiont. She shook it off as they started moving out.

Joined by others John assisted the ones he could to the medics. The excitement also reminded himself of the dog fight with the Breen and how he had to punch out of his fighter.

[ Sick Bay ]

Having just finished with a patient Dr, Williams' comm sounded "This is Doctor Williams, go ahead" he stated.

"Doctor this is the Athena. We've had an accident on the Ship and are sending you one Crewman with severe wounds and another who didn't make it I'm afraid" came the explanation.

"Understood, we will be ready" Williams replied then tapping his comm "Dr. Daniels and Nurse Stone please report to the Medical Transporter" he ordered on his way there himself. As they all arrived Ramvek could hear the transporter initiate and moments later two gurneys appeared; one with a bloody Crewman and the second with a sheet over the entire body. Ramvek turned "Dr. Daniels please take this poor soul to the morgue and do an identity scan then send the results to Captain Callaghan" then he paused "I meant to say Captain Vehn, she'll inform his family. Also get the body cleaned up and ready for transport."

"As you wish Doctor" Daniels replied then started moving the body as ordered.

"Nurse Stone help me get this Crewman into the sterilization room so we can get to work on this gentleman" Williams commented starting to move the patient.

Heidi gabbed the other end of the gurney helping the Doctor move the patient towards the desired location. Once in the sterilization room Heidi went to the medical cabinet to grab a hypo for any pain he may be in. "Doctor I have 20cc's of axonol ready with your approval" Heidi stated waiting for the authorization to administer the drug.

"Go ahead, that should help with any pain he may be experiencing" Ramvek commented as he started to scan the body for any foreign substances "Looks like there is some shrapnel in his torso so we'll need to get that out first before anything else."

As the medication started to take effect the patients eyes opened looking at Williams. Seeing his eyes open Ramvek bent down "Crewman I am Doctor Williams; you are in Sick Bay on the Base and we're here to help. Can you tell me your name."

"Richard....Montoya..Technician" the man replied.

"Nice to meet you Mr. Montoya" while placing a neural inhibitor on his forehead "This will put you asleep while we repair your torso" Ramvek stated as the man closed his eyes.

In the recessed area of Sickbay Jaeth watched as the humans struggled to help their own. Doctor Williams had been given the extraordinary power to heal but he used his educated skills to do so that way. Removing herself the female entity returned back to the Overwatch ship.

David was sitting on a biobed when a coveralls clad Tellarite walked in respirator dangling from his neck walked over handing him a pad then spoke, "Some idiot installed power boost modules in the engine power management, they're not listed in any of the engineering logs." he growled.

"Pull or disconnect the remaining modules until the investigation is done." David said setting the pad aside "Thanks Chief."

About thirty minutes later Doctor Williams had removed the last of the shrapnel as Nurse Stone was watching his vitals. Suddenly "Doctor his blood pressure has dropped and he's going into cardiac arrest" she stated then turning to grab the power blocks to revive Montoya.

Williams heard his Head Nurse and was determined not to loose this patient. Starting to reach for the blocks he heard a small voice in his head "Stop! Remember your gift of healing....use it before it's too late" as Ramvek looked to Heidi "I have this!"

Closing his eyes Ramvek cleared his mind replacing his medical knowledge with a vision of Montoya. Placing both hands on Montoya's torso he continued with the image in his mind as his hands became very warm and they began to glow.

Nurse Stone watched in amazement not saying a word. Heidi knew Ramvek was an excellent Doctor so she wasn't about to question his methods. Minutes later she glanced at the monitor seeing Motoya's vitals back to normal and his heart rate was back to normal as well. "Doctor Williams you did it! His vitals are normal as is his heart rate" Heidi stated still not quite sure what had just transpired.

Opening his eyes and removing his hands Ramvek let out a long sigh "It worked" he commented as a wave of relief swept over him.


John Dallas then looked around sickbay hopeful to see if Isabella was around.

David looked across sickbay, there was a pained relief knowing one of the two men were going to be okay David slowly looked around seeing that everyone was distracted he stood up and started to make his way out of sickbay, he set his combadge down next to the pad and started to make an exit, he paused long enough to look back and then exited.

" Commander Wallace you almost forgot your pad." John noticed.

"I'm not going too need it." David said as he walked out.

John said nothing but then toggled his com badge.
" John Dallas to Counselor Isabelle you are needed in sickbay."

“On my way” Isabelle was already enroute having stopped by her office. A few moments later she stepped through the doors offering her husband a warm smile. “How goes everything?”

" Sweetness I am fine but Commander Wallace needs you right now. There was an explosion on the Athena and I think he blames himself. ." John replied as he also kissed his wife.

Isabelle nodded as she gave John a warm smile. “I’ll do whatever I can to help.”

" He has left his pad and his comm badge. We had better go find him" John replied as he took Isabella by the right elbow.

Isabelle was surprised to be rushed off but it was obvious John was worried. “It could be he just wants some time alone.”

" Nooo this is big. I know depression and that dude has something bothering him.
" Computer where is....Oh Hell that won't work I have his command badge." John replied. " Maybe he went back to the Athena?" John said looking at Isabella

Isabelle nodded. “It’s certainly possible, let’s start there and see.”

David found himself in the turbolift headed toward the officers quarters, his mind was a haze of anger and wanting to be alone at that exact moment, unfortunately next too him was a nervious junior officer who looked to be more than a little anxious about making their stop, as the lift paused the ensign quickly got off the lift and scurried away, as the lift resumed he finally let himself breathe so to speak, "Damn it!" he said as he thumped the pannel with his fist. The lift stopped and he stepped out walking to his quarters.

“Even if Commander Wallace is blaming himself its human nature to do so” Isabelle looked at John as they walked. “I’ll do all I can to help him, but in the long run only he can face it and move on.”

The lift landed and John jumped out but only the safety compression systems were in play.

" Well I guess I will give these to Captain Callaghan. " John said meaning the badge and pad.

“Actually it’s Captain Vehn now” Isabelle offered a smile, she’s a joined Trill now. As for those I’ll take them with me.”

" Might as well. Well I am off to Ops I hear your Dads back."
