An Idea Approved

Mission: STELLAR NURSERY
Location: USS Capernaum
Timeline: current

ON:

Captain Kudo had sat through half of Alpha shift on the Bridge, going over not only ship reports, but also digging into the personnel file for one Lieutenant Regina Green. Not to check up on her, she was a Green after all, but to assess her skills and experience and to see what she had been involved in during her tenure in Starfleet. There were a few classified sections she had to encode for, then read those portions, impressed by what she had seen. Nothing spectacular or super special, just actions she had been involved in that made her suited for what Ro had been thinking about all morning. It was lunch time and the Bridge crew were now having Ops officers replace them until that break was over. She tapped her combadge. "Kudo to Resch."

Griffon's voice came back quickly. "Go ahead, Captain."

"Griffon, gather Sheyla and Lt. Green and meet me in the Ready Room shortly. We'll lunch together and discuss some ideas you have brought up in the past."

Resch glanced at his two table mates in the lounge. Lt. Green and Lt. Commander Sheyla were both with him so he could make their introduction to one another. "They're with me now, Captain. We'll be up in a few minutes."

"Thank you, Lt. Kudo, out." Ro tapped her combadge off and stood up. Mister Borelli, you have the Bridge since Number One has taken a personal day. Carry on." She stepped into the port lift, which spun around in place and opened, walking into the small lobby before that led to the Ready Room door. Entering her CO's office space, which was also CIC and the main briefing room for command meetings, Kudo went and placed her PADD at the head of the table before going and gathering herself a taco salad with all the trimmings. Just as she had gathered her food and drink, and got sat down at the table, the others came in since they were expected. "Please, grab a bite to eat and a drink and join me at the table." Kudo offered. As the others went and gathered their meals and beverages, Ro took a couple of bites of her salad. Once seated and their crockery adjusted for eating and talking, they all looked to the CO.

"What's on your mind, Captain?" Asked Sheyla, being the highest ranking officer other than the Captain.

"A while back, Griffon had an idea for a more specialized unit within Starfleet. He brought it to me, and then to Commander Loewen but, at the time, we had other things we were aiding with when it came to the station. Now, with Lt. Green here, and her own experience in the field, I think it's time we revisited the idea." Resch had raised his eyebrows, having no clue which idea to which she was referring. Ro gave a smile and slight giggle at the expression. "Are you still interested in developing your Starfleet Expeditionary & Assault Legion, Mister Resch?"

"The SEAL team idea!" Resch gave a smile at that. "Damn right I am. Are we the ship that gets to test the idea?"

Green had stopped eating her food and was now paying full attention. "SEAL team? Like, the SEALs of old?"

"Similar, yes." Resch stated. "Special Forces teams, taken from officers and crew on each ship and trained for special operations. In, out, and no one knowing it happened until we're long gone."

Sheyla's antenna were weaving all over the place in her own excitement, yet tilted forward showing she was fully attentive to the subject matter. "Like the Andorian Sovereign Guard. They, too, are spec forces for the Andorian government, working alongside the Starfleet Rangers. If this is going to happen I want in, Captain."

"As do I," stated Green.

Ro had listened to them as she had taken another bite and chewed, swallowing and sipping some of her water to clear her mouth to talk. "Slow your roll a moment. I had already intended the three of you to be involved in the program since it is Griff's idea. However, it will take a couple of months of hardcore training to get you lot where you need to be to be considered a Spec Force. Weapons training on various designs, target acquisition training, the works. I don't want to send you folks in and have you blast a captive because you haven't trained your eyes to know who is who yet at a glance."

"I have everything already planned for the training," Resch offered. "I've worked on this idea for over three years on my off time. Thank you, Captain, for finally giving it a chance."

"You're welcome, Griff. I just had to wait for the right time to tell you I approved. Now seems the right time. This sector isn't completely secure yet and a special combat unit may be just the ticket to aiding in getting things smoothed out. I'm Meji, so I already have all the special training I need plus, over 15 years in service." Her eyes went back and forth to Sheyla and Resch before they settled on Green. "Also, we need a Strategic Operations Chief here on Capernaum. I am going to offer that to Lt. Green. I want all three of your departments working together like a finely tuned machine. Security, Strat Ops, and Intel should all be working diligently on our safety as a ship."

"I accept, Captain." Said Green. "I've never been a department head, but I was the chief small craft pilot for almost a year at Starbase 38."

Ro gave her a smile. "I know. I read your file, all of it, and why the offer was made. Now, you'll need to get caught up on all the hubbub going on in this sector, and share your data with these two so we can maintain being up to date on all aspects of this sector of space."

"Will do, Captain." Regi assured her.

Kudo had more to say. "I would like to see each of you run a team. That means find those in all departments willing to serve in the SEALs, all aspects of the program, and get them trained once you lot feel you've done it for yourselves. I leave Mister Resch to be the final arbiter for who gets brought in, for now. Once the two of you are up to par, then you can aid him in that process. Or, if you all prefer, we create one team here on Capernaum that will be large enough to create two or three squads."

"That's what I was thinking, too, Captain." Resch responded. "I'm sure there are at least a dozen aboard, from every department, who would be willing to train for this. With twelve bodies, that can be broken down into three squads of four each should we need a multiple ingress into a situation."

"Work it out however you need to, Griffon. If this SEAL thing works, and is accepted by Starfleet, it could change things for the better all around the Federation." Stated Kudo.

The trio continued to speak on the project even as they ate their lunches, the tension eventually easing down to casual discussions on the matter mixed with friendly banter. Ro was feeling better about the decision to let it develop.
