Peel Post - Settling In

[Deck 2]

Since all of the Officer's Quarters were on this deck, it wasn't uncommon to run into one of his Senior Officers in the corridors. Seeing Maria walking towards him Jamie smiled "Maria how are you finding your new quarters" he inquired with a smile.

"Hi Captain, fancy meeting you here" she replied with a grin "My new quarters are very nice and somewhat roomier than the old one; Star Fleet certainly didn't skimp on the amenities, that's for sure."

"Good, I'm glad it's to your satisfaction; I was hoping everyone's quarters would be much better than their previous ones. Have a pleasant evening Lieutenant" Jamie responded.

"You as well Captain" SanChez answered with a smile.

Entering his new quarters Jamie looked around seeing a larger living space with a state-of-the-art Kitchen fully stocked with all the hardware one could ask for. Also a larger couch with two chairs, side tables, and a nice sized table in front of the couch. Against the port wall was a much larger desk and terminal area. Going into the bedroom Jamie noticed a large double bed, night stands, a larger dresser as well as a good sized closet. Moving towards the starboard side was a sonic shower big enough to have a small party, not that would ever happen, and all the other amenities one would expect.

Going back into the Kitchen area Jamie set to making a quick dinner for himself and Angel who was set to arrive soon. Thinking for a few moments he decided to go with hash and eggs for a filling quick meal. As the hash was cooking on a brand new plasma stove he heard the door chime go off "Come in" he stated in a loud voice.

Angel walked in noticing the Captain's new quarters "Well isn't this nice" she stated with a smile.

Turning "Yes it is and how are your quarters, if I may ask" Jamie replied with a grin noticing she was a little more covered up than usual which was probably a good thing considering his new relationship with Shauna.

"Not quite as big as yours but pretty close and it appears they didn't spare any expense with the amenities this time" Angel answered with a smile "Dinner smells good by the way."

"That's good to hear. I did run into Maria in the corridor and she seems to be very pleased with hers which makes me happy; the Crew deserves a little larger and nicer place to live; they've earned that much" Jamie replied as he dropped the eggs into the frying pan "So how do you like your eggs?"

Sitting down at the island "Yes they certainly do" Angel commented with a smile "Eggs....sunny side up."

"Coming right up" he stated. Minutes later the eggs were finished as he plated them along with the hash and some crusty bread "There you go enjoy" as Jamie poured each of them a glass of red wine then sat himself.They talked about different things while they enjoyed their meal.

Afterwards they quickly cleaned up and put things in their proper places before Jamie poured each of them another glass of wine "May as well be comfortable" he commented as they went and sat on the couch. Several minutes later Jamie asked "I normally don't like talking shop when we're off duty but there is something I need to ask you."

Not knowing what to expect "Ok ask away" Angel replied before taking another sip of her wine.

Setting his glass on the table in front of them "As you know the new eleven type shuttle needs a minimum of two people to operate. Now we already have the Pilot situated, being Sam of course, and I would like you to take command of the shuttle when it's needed; also I would like a tactical and science persons aboard as well when needed" Jamie explained "So what do you think."

Thinking a moment "I have a question for you.....and be honest.....do you think I'm ready to be more or less on my own" Angel inquired curious to the response.

Without a moments thought "Absolutely! I don't even think twice about turning command of the ship over to you" then Jamie paused "Besides it'll let you spread your wings a little more. At some point I'm sure Star Fleet is going to offer you your own command and I want you to be more than ready to be successful."

Angel grinned "So you trying to get rid of me" she asked jokingly.

"Not hardly you're the reason I do so well at my job. All I know is when the time comes they better give me an experienced First Officer so I don't have to babysit a newbie" Jamie replied with a chuckle then continued "Tomorrow we'll sit down and figure out the rest of the Crew for the Shuttle."

"That sounds like a plan and yes I'll take command of the Shuttle" then she paused becoming quite serious "Thank you for your confidence in my abilities. The reason I'm so good at my job is because a have an extremely supportive Captain and that means more to me than you know."

[Elsewhere]

Sarissa and Johan entered their new home as he commented "You know my love I still can't believe how roomy and nice this place is; and two bedrooms to boot. They certainly didn't spare any expense that's for sure."

“You’re telling me!” Sarissa grinned. “I absolutely love this, and that second room could eventually become a nursery” She gave him a big smile at that idea.

Smirking "Easy there, maybe we ought to get married first" as he chuckled "And speaking of getting married perhaps we should sit down in the near future and set a date and make our relationship official; so what do think" Johan commented.

“I think that’s an amazing idea!” Sarissa nodded and smiled. “As for kids, there’s no rush I was just playing with the idea that’s all.”

Johan smiled as he walked up to Sarissa and gave her a kiss "Maybe after we return to the Station we can sit down and figure out our future together" he commented in a low voice.

[Sayvek’s Quarters]

Sayvek had never really felt at home any where but upon entering his new quarters that ended. Seeing a genuine Vulcan mirror and a rare Vulcan plant on a stand reminded him of his child home. A fully functional replicator and 2 very firm pillows almost brought a smile to the young Vulcans face. But the clincher was the tri-dimensional chess board.


[Deck 1 Bridge]

The next morning the Peel was moving right along at warp factor six with the Bridge Crew doing their usual duties. "Commander let's get the Shuttle Crew settled while we have a few minutes" the Captain stated "Lieutenant SanChez you have the Conn" since the Counselor was occupied with a patient.

[Ready Room]

Walking in "Angel please have a seat; anything to drink" Jamie inquired with a smile.

"No Jamie, I'm fine" she replied "Maybe we should include Ensign Barot in this discussion since she is the Pilot; also might make her feel like more part of that Crew."

"Excellent idea but first there's something I want to attend to" Jamie replied with a smile as he opened his desk drawer and grabbed something then stood; not knowing what was about to happen Angel stood as well " Lieutenant Commander Angel Devroe because of your exemplary work and your willingness to go above and beyond your duties; it is my extreme pleasure to hereby promote you to the rank of full Commander with all the rights and privileges that entails" then he moved in front of Angel with the new pip "May I" as she gave him a nod yes, Jamie removed the black pip and replaced it with the third gold one. Offering his hand "Congratulations Commander Angel Devroe; it's long overdue."

Holding back some tears of joy Angel smiled and shook the Captain's hand "Thank you Captain for your continued trust in my abilities and honoring my opinions; that means the world to me" as she smiled.

"You're welcome and you deserve this promotion" O'Connell stated with a smile "So let's make it official. Computer update Ship's files as follows: Lieutenant Commander Devroe, Angel is hereby promoted to full Commander with all the rights and privileges therein; stamped this day and time forward."

"Ship's files are updated as follows: Lieutenant Commander Devroe, Angel is hereby promoted to full Commander with all the rights and privileges therein; stamped this day and time forward." the Computer replied.

With a smile O'Connell tapped his comm "Ensign Barot please report to the Captain's Ready Room" came the order then Jamie sat looking across at Commander Devroe "So we have a C.O. and a Pilot; what else would you like to have included in a four person Crew? he asked.

Thinking a moment "I'm sure the Ensign can take care of any engineering problems that might come up, given her background. I can handle science so really I guess all we need is tactical and communications; but tactical more I would think" Angel replied "But let's see what the Ensign has to offer before we make any decisions."

Just then Sam knocked on the open door "You wanted to see me Captain" then seeing Devroe "Commander" she commented with a smile.

"Ensign yes, please have a seat "O'Connell commented with a smile "Commander I'll let you take it from here."

Taking a breath "The Captain has asked me to be the C.O. for the Type 11 Shuttle and I accepted. Since you're the Pilot I think a name would be in order so we don't have to keep referring to it as the Type 11; any thoughts Ensign" Commander Devroe asked with a smile.

Thinking a moment "Well....since the shuttle is new as well as the Ship.....how about Shuttle Genesis....you know a new beginning" Sam responded.

"That's a great idea for the name.....so Shuttle Genesis it is" Angel responded "Now we'll probably need someone for at least Tactical and possibly for Communications since I can handle Science and I assume you could take care of Engineering given your background."

With a smirk "Let's put it this way, I'm sure I could take the Shuttle apart then put it back together again if need be so yes Engineering isn't a concern" Sam replied "And since your Science qualified it Looks like Tactical and Comms would be the way to go; especially Tactical."

Looking toward Jamie "For Tactical I was thinking of Lieutenant J.G. Jason McNeil since he is the ACT/S Officer; it would be experience for him if he ever wanted to move up in rank. As far as Communication goes I'm not sure who would be a good fit" Angel concluded.

O'Connell sat drumming his fingers on the desktop thinking "Lieutenant McNeil is a good choice for Tactical, so we'll go with that. Let me think on Communications and I'll let you know Commander" then he paused "As soon as we get that situated I would like to suggest Commander that you meet with your Crew aboard Shuttle Genesis and get things squared away" the Captain stated.

"Yes Captain I had already figured on doing just that" Angel replied thinking ahead past today.

"Great! If there is nothing else you are dismissed" O'Connell ordered.

Standing Angel turned to Sam "I'm looking forward to working with you on the Shuttle as time goes on."

With a grin "Right back at you Commander and it should be fun" Sam replied still looking forward to a test run with the Shuttle.

After the Ensign left O'Connell grinned "Nicely done Commander; looks like you're a natural at being a C.O." he commented.

"Only because I have such a good role model" Angel replied with a grin then left the Office.

[Bridge]

Going back to command the Captain walked over to Communications "Lieutenant we're in need of a Comms Officer for the new Shuttle; do you have someone we could utilize for the position" he inquired.

"Actually Sir with such a small Crew I barely have enough personnel to man this Station for the three shifts plus days off" the Lieutenant replied.

Overhearing the conversation Lieutenant Albo approached the Officers "Captain if I may. Even though I was not Academy trained I was trained in communications when I served on the USS Hudson if that would be any help at all" Johan commented.

"Lieutenant your offer is greatly appreciated and accepted" O'Connell responded with a smile.

Commander Devroe overheard their conversation and approached the Officers "Well Lieutenant looks like you have yourself a new job; welcome aboard the Shuttle Genesis" then she turned towards O'Connell "With your permission Captain I'd like to meet with the new Shuttle Crew at zero ten hundred tomorrow."

"Permission granted Commander" O'Connell stated with a grin.

Moving over to Tactical "Lieutenant SanChez, could I bother you a moment" O'Connell asked.

"Yes Captain, what's on your mind" Maria replied with a smile.

"We're in need of a Tactical Officer for the new Shuttle and we were thinking of your assistant for the position, thoughts."

"Captain that's a great idea. Sometimes I think Lieutenant McNeil gets a little bored working in my shadow..... and the experience would be good for him so yes by all means ask him" Maria suggested.

"Good; we'll talk to him in the morning then" O'Connell answered "Besides I need you here; I trust your judgement when it comes to this Ship's tactical responses."

"Thank you Captain, I appreciate your faith in my abilities" Maria commented with sincerity.
