NAZGUL: {CD&MISSION} Return to Basics

OOC: If you do not feel like contributing to this JP, I can either do honorable mentions of character attendance, or just say that folks didn't show up. Either way is fine by me.
This has become a backpost for continuity.
ON:
Making sure to include only those who were a part of the command staff, Tore Bjorgo sent a message to each of them at the same time.
{message}
To all staff officers,
Captain's table this evening in the Captain's quarters. We will be enjoying each other's company and seeing to a matter of recognition. This dinner is optional, not mandatory. Please, make your way to the CO's quarters by 1800. If not here by 1900 then you need not bother attending.
Thank You,
Capt., Tore Bjorgo

Once the message was sent off Tore and Sheyla got busy setting all the food around the quarters, along the L-shaped buddy bar and elsewhere since seating would be at the buddy bar. There would be wines, liquors, and various non-alcoholic beverages on hand, none of them replicated since the Captain had had Taavis send over some of her stock, duly paid for. Pastries Bjorgo baked himself, along with other sweet treats from dozens of worlds. Plenty to go around for all.
Receiving the message, Sean Loewen was still dressed from duty, so he went and freshened up before strapping the undercover security belt around his waist that Resch had given him when he had asked about one. His saber hilt could be worn sideways along his waistline and lumbar region to be easily covered by his shirt. If he bent over too far the shirt tail would ride up and expose it, but that was not a concern. Ease of carrying was all he wanted. Feeling ready and giving a last look in the mirror, Loewen left his quarters and headed for the CMO's quarters. Arriving at Len's door he reached out and hit the chime.
Len had received the message from the Captain while she was still in Sickbay. She had one of the medical officers take over for her and went to her quarters. She took a quick shower and got dressed in the black version on her blue dress. She put her commbadge on and was putting her hair into a braid when her door chimed. "Enter."
Sean stepped inside, coming to a slow stop as his eyes caught sight of her. "Wow, you look stunning." He stepped in closer and gave her a quick kiss, smelling the aromas of freshly lathered skin and soaps. Not to mention her own intoxicating scent. "Apologies for missing in action the past couple of days, I had a lot of work I wanted to see to before we leave M-69 on the next patrol." Loewen would tell her the truth later, but for now, he just wanted to be around her.
Len finished putting her hair into a braid. She smiled, "It's alright. We should head to the Captain's. Don't want to be late."
"I hear the Captain is quite the chef," said Sean. "The variety of dishes should prove interesting." Walking with her to the door, he allowed her to step out first and then got in beside her as they traversed the corridors. CMO quarters were down near Sickbay, so they had a few minutes to get to the lifts and the proper deck.
Arriving at the CO's door, Sean hit the chime. Tore opened it with a smile. "Captain," said Sean in greeting, his own face producing a smile. "We're here for supper."
"Welcome," said Bjorgo, waving them in. Once inside he then began to motion around. Bar there, appetizers there, and pastries over there. Help yourself while a few main dishes finish cooking and I get some of the dishes done." He was wearing an apron over his uniform as he shook Loewen's hand and then grasped Holbrook's hand and gave it a gentlemanly squeeze before she got a light half hug of greeting. "I'm glad you both made it." Tore then moved back into the kitchen area.
"Drink?" Sean asked as he looked at Len. He did note they were the first to arrive.
"I'll take a sweet tea, please." Len said with a smile.
Kara was ready, having cleaned up and applied hygiene. Penni was on cloud nine once she heard that she too had been invited to the dinner, to meet the crew. She had replicated a leatheris body glove type outfit, sleeveless, and showing off her android arms (bio pics). The two of them left Kara's quarters and made their way through the ship.
Lieutenant Resch, along with Billi, arrived at the CO's cabin and rang the chime. Tore himself answered it, his presence causing the door to open automatically, smiling when he saw who it was. "Come in, come in," he said, stepping aside for them to enter.
The two officers came in, with Resch allowing Billi to enter just before himself. Billi breathed in deeply. "Damn, it smells good in here." Bjorgo chuckled and wagged his eyebrows. Griffon had to agree by saying so.
Tore motioned to different places around the room. "Drinks over at the bar, pastries there, along with other sweets. And, appetizers there. Help yourself and claim a seat. The outside corner seat is mine."
Both officers gave their nods and voiced their thanks, moving further inside.
Isabelle had been surprised to receive an invite to the get together, as she hadn’t been aboard the Nazgul of late. Nevertheless she was happy to join in, it would give her chance to get to know the crew better. Pressing the chime she waited for an answer.
Hearing his chime once again, Tore stepped into the sensor and the door opened. Seeing who it was he smiled. "Counselor! Glad you could make it. Please," He said, stepping aside to allow her entry with her slipping passed him as the door closed behind her. "Thank you for coming Isabelle. I should have put it in the message, a guest could have been invited, too. Apologies for that." Bjorgo, as he had done with the others, pointed out what was where, still wearing his apron with a bit of moisture down the front from doing crockery. "Help yourself."
As Bjorgo had said his last the chime sounded again, with Tore gracefully pardoning himself to answer it. This time his eyes saw the two who were standing on the threshold, again smiling. "Kara, Penni." He gave them a nod each and a big smile. "Please, come in." Not skipping a beat he once again pointed out what was where, his eyes lingering more on Penni than on Kara, trying to get a read on bot-girl. Her eyes were wide with wonder as she looked around at all the people laughing, smiling and talking, and even more so as she took in the sights of so many culinary delights, the aromas as wonderful as their appearance.
Resch came in and shook the hand of Veran-Dallas. "Been a while, Isabelle. I know you've been busy on the station so seeing you is an unexpected plus." Griffon gave her a smile. Kara slid in next to Resch, not one used to all this camaraderie in a dinner party setting.
Isabelle smiled warmly. “Thank you. I wasn’t expecting an invite so that’s an unexpected treat for me.”
Bjorgo reached out and took Penni by the arm gently, steering her towards his home made cinnamon rolls and the other sugary delights. Grabbing a paper towel and using a spatula to lift a cinnamon roll, Tore put it on the paper towel and handed it to her. "Give it a try," he said with a smile as he got her a cloth napkin to wipe her face and hands.
Penni, not expecting to be treated like everyone else, took the offered pastry, still warm through the paper towel, the white frosting still a bit melted on the top. Bjorgo gave the charade of reaching into it, pinching a section off and putting it in her mouth. She followed the instructions and popped the moist and gooey piece of delight into her mouth and began to chew. As she did so, Penni's eyes lit up, her eyes closing briefly as she let out a moan of sheer bliss. Food in cheek, even while still chewing a bit at a time, her eyes opened back up showing sheer pleasure. "That is sooooo good." Mmm, mmm, mmm could be heard as she continued to chew and swallow.
Tore could not help but laugh. "Glad you like it. Help yourself to all there is."
Operations Officer Lt Bob Covenant was very happy the events recently were behind them. Watching the others he enjoyed his cold beverage and pondered his own prospects.
Loewen had stayed by Holbrook's side, sometimes giving distance as he chatted up others as she moved at her own pace around the Captain's quarters.
The chime sounded and Bjorgo went and answered it, seeing Captain Green on his doorstep. "Ro! Come in, please." She entered and handed over the two small, rectangular, stained wooden boxes that were reminiscent of small, thin jewelry boxes.
"I'll depart once you have seen to these." Green said, reaching out with the Force all around the room, trying to hone in on the reason for the tremor she had felt earlier. "I have things I need to see to."
"Very well." Tore turned and stood within the kitchen area, the open area between it and the large L-shaped dinner bar. "Everyone, everyone. Please, look to me." Once the room was quiet and looking his way, Bjorgo continued. "First, I would like to thank all those who came to dinner. It's a chance for us all to get to know each other better, off the record and off duty. However, I have an alternate reason behind the camaraderie." His eyes scanned the faces until they landed on the first person he was going to call up. "Lieutenant JG Ainkara, please step to me."
Kara, not liking to be in the spotlight, did so with grace, but one could tell it made her uncomfortable. "Yes, Sir?"
"Ainkara, you have served this ship with purpose and intent. With your logic and your moral compass. You are loyal and steadfast to everyone around you. With all that in mind," he opened one of the wood boxes, showing the two solid gold pips within. "I promoted you to lieutenant, and Captain Green agreed to it after reviewing your service record and your duty logs for USS Nazgul." He removed her old black/gold pips pin, and replaced it with the rank pips for full lieutenant. "Congratulations, Lieutenant Kara." Tore gave her a handshake and applauded her success. Kara glanced around, her chin down a bit as she felt embarrassed by all the attention her way.
"Thank you, Captain." Kara responded.
Setting the empty box aside, Bjorgo looked back to the room with his eyes finding the next officer included in promotions. "Lieutenant JG Griffin Resch, step forward, please." Resch did so, smiling and shaking his head. He had no problem being the center of attention for this occasion. "Griffon, like Kara, you have served the Nazgul with professionalism and dedication. Your mind seems to always be on the safety and security of ship and crew. You are a credit to the Security Division of Starfleet." Tore motioned for him to remove the JG pips pin and then he replaced it with the two gold pips. "You are now a full lieutenant in service to Starfleet. Congratulations!" Bjorgo shook Griffon's hand with joy and smiles, and that sentiment was returned. "Alright, we have seen to the promotions, so now, let's eat!"
The room began to move around and find their seats. Bjorgo would be on the outside corner of the L-shaped dinner bar, with Sheyla on his left and Billi on his right. Beyond that, all seats were open except for two. They were placed on the inside corner of the dinner bar, their back to the kitchen, but right in front of the Captain and all the other officers present. Kara and Penni had been designated to sit there for Tore's own reasons.
Isabelle took a seat offering the two newly promoted Officers a smile. “Congratulations on your promotions.” With that she set her sights on what was to offer, if there was one thing being pregnant did, it gave her a good appetite.
Lt Bob Covenant smiled at seeing Isabella the Commodore's little girl. Nodding to her like an old uncle might a niece.
Isabelle offered a warm smile as she looked towards Bob. “Enjoying the gathering?”
" Oh yeah these folks can party. Have you joined us Counselor?"
Isabelle nodded. “I am officially ships Counsellor for the Nazgul, I’ve just not been aboard many times as yet. My duties tend to split me between here and the station.”
" I know Sureth is proud even if he doesn't show it." Bob replied.
“He shows it in his own way” Isabelle smiled warmly. “I’m glad I requested a position here, it was to get to know my father better it’s worked out nicely.”
" I miss the Bohr myself. It was me him and two others on the bridge but we got her done. We were always short handed for crew. My late wife was his Chief Nurse. " Bob replied
“Really? I never knew that” Isabelle offered Bob a warm smile. “I’m sorry for your loss.”
" Nic was a baby so he never knew her. I had a few girl friends but who wants a single man with a kid? So I sent him home to Earth. He joined the academy and dang he joined me on the Base when I got assigned there." Bob replied.
“You must be very proud of him though” Isabelle smiled. “Nic is a good Officer.”
" He is a good son. A junior Lieutenant even but still I think of him as my kiddo son." Bob replied.
“Naturally” Isabelle nodded. “I’ll probably do the same when my children are older.”
Ejo had almost forgoten the Captians meeting as presses the door chime at the Captains quarters. She was hoping that she was still on time. She didn´t want to miss out to get to know the crew.
Still wearing his apron, Bjorgo stepped to his door again. When it opened he broke into a smile as he saw his Chief Engineer. "Nora! Glad you could make it. Please," he said as he sidestepped and motioned for her to enter. As with the previous guests he had met at the door, he gave a quick rundown of what was where, and that she was to help herself as she saw fit. "With us all here it's a bit of a squeeze, but not too terrible. Please, help yourself and enjoy the company." Tore stepped away back to the kitchen area, still adding to his menagerie of dishes for the pot luck.
Penni, having found a quiet little corner to sit down, observed all of the goings-on. Three times now her internal vision had glitched to the black beings overlapping a blood red background, as if her mind was committing all to memory whether she wanted it too, or not. Her internal systems were still running diagnostics to determine the cause of the glitch so that she could finally get it under control and shut it down. But, in the back of her mind, she had a feeling that that was not what was wanted. Try as she might she could not determine who had given her such a task, or why.
Over the next couple of hours the pot luck went well. Everyone present was glad to be here, so it seemed, and all were in good spirits. Bjorgo liked seeing his officers relaxed and doing something other than the daily duty grind. Sure, everyone had their own ways to relax, but being together all at once, on occasion, was a good thing. His hopes had been fulfilled as he watched them all cut up and enjoy conversations about a great many topics. It had been a good night.
