Mission: TALES FROM THE MIDDLE STARS
Location: USS Peel
Timeline: Current

::ON::

~ Deck 1 Bridge ~

The Peel had been on patrol for the last couple of weeks making sure the Essary, or anyone else, wasn't going to be a threat to Star Base M-69. Even though the job was a little boring at times, the Captain and Crew knew it was necessary.

O'Connell and Devroe were at the Con talking about what their next area to patrol was going to be when they were interrupted by the Comms Officer.

"Captain, Fleet Captain Taavis wants to have a word with you Sir."

Jamie rose from his chair "Patch it through to my ready Room. Number One you have the Con" he stated then made his way to his Office. After keying in his security code, Jamie smiled "Captain Taavis what do I owe the pleasure" he inquired.

"Captain O'Connell," Taavis responded, also showing a slight grin on her otherwise stoic face. "Always good to see you, as well." She had a PADD on her desk she could glance at from time to time as she spoke. "Firstly, I wanted to give a nod of recognition to your crew and command staff. Patrols tend to become tedious and boring but, with the sector in which M-69 is centered, the anomalies and micro nebulas need to be painstakingly cataloged. We are living on a frontier that many out here know better than we do, and they will use their knowledge of the terrain against us."

Pausing briefly, Taavis then continued after she had perused the data on her PADD. "Recently, the USS Nazgul came upon an energy being that was sending out waves of chronometric energy, causing time dilation and fluctuation. The Nazgul was able to ascertain that Captain James T. Kirk had come across one of these beings in their day, a species calling themselves the Gola. Kirk's logs were accurate but there were many details left out. However, he did note that the Gola they encountered had started off as an energy being, and once it was led to where it was looking to go, it then became a solid being who's only interest was being near a star it referred to as 'Parent', so it could find sustenance and survive. The Nazgul led the being to a micro-nebula consisting mainly of hydrogen, at which point the being ceased its movements and centered itself within that nebula. Nazgul's sensor logs show that the creature is now, for lack of a better term, dormant." Her eyes met Jamie's casually as she finished the initial breakdown. "The micro-nebula is fairly close to M-69, within the 'lagoon', and we have yet to send a vessel out that way to see what has become of it, and why."

Jamie thought for a moment "We can certainly check it out and catalog whatever information we ascertain" he replied then continued "Thanks for the heads-up on any time fluctuations; we'll proceed with caution. I'll send you a full report when the Mission is completed. O'Connell out."

After the conversation with the Fleet Captain, Jamie made his way back out onto the Bridge and walked over to the center seat. Looking towards Comms "Communications open a ship wide channel please" he ordered. As soon as he received the hand gesture "Attention Crew, this is the Captain. We'll be leaving momentarily for the Lagoon Nebula to conduct some research into it's interior. You all know your jobs so stay sharp and this mission won't be any different than any other. Captain out."

"Helm set a course for the Nebula, warp five" Jamie ordered.

"Course plotted in.....going to warp five Sir." Now they were on their way for another Mission.

Angel leaned over towards Jamie "So why is the Fleet Captain so interested with the Nebula's interior" she inquired wanting to know.

"It would appear the Nazgul lured some sort of entity into the Nebula and about the same time the Base was loosing it's gravity periodically; Taavis wants us to find out if there's any correlation between the two incidents and also what has happened to the entity" Jamie explained.

"So why isn't the Nazgul following up on this instead of us" Number One queried showing some concern in her voice.

Jamie grinned "We drew the short straw? Actually the Nazgul has other orders and since we're closer Taavis assigned this Mission to us" he explained "Why is that a problem Number One."

"Not at all Captain....whereever you go or whatever you need I'm there" Angel replied with a smile which made Jamie smile as well.

The Captain tapped his Comm "Lieutenant Aloran, this is O'Connell, are you free to report to the Bridge, I may need your expertise shortly."

~ Counsellors Office ~

Sarissa was just finishing off some reports when O’Connell’s voice came over the comms. “I’m on my way Sir.” Putting away her PADDs she headed out of her office.

~ Bridge ~

Arriving on the bridge not too long after Sarissa offered a warm smile. “What’s our status Captain?”

The Captain turned to look at Sarissa "Thank you Counsellor for being so prompt" he commented with a smile "We're on our way to the Lagoon Nebula to research it's interior as well as see what has become of this entity that Taavis has called the Gola. If, and that's a big if, this entity is sentient I may need your expertise."

Sarissa nodded. “Sounds intriguing Captain” she smiled warmly, before looking around her eyes falling on Johan as she did so. She gave him a smile before turning back to O’Connell. “Do we know anything at all about this entity?”

Jamie thought for a moment "Other than it's name, not really much of anything besides it's able to keep up with a Ship at warp three without any problems" then he paused "Although a Ferrengi ship did experience some sort of 'time distortion' when in close proximity to it" he explained.

"That doesn't sound foreboding at all" Number One stated, then paused momentarily "I've heard of this sort of 'time distortion' happening to other Ships over the years.....hopefully it doesn't happen here" with some concern.

"Let's hope not but like everything else we'll deal with it if it should come to that" Jamie assured his First Officer.

"Helm how long before we reach the outer edges of the Nebula" O'Connell inquired. "We should be at the outer edges in about fifteen minutes Captain" came the reply. "When we reach the outer edges drop us out of warp and come to a full stop, I want to conduct some research before we enter that thing."

"As you wish Sir" Helm relied.

Looking over at Johan "Lieutenant Albo, I want you go down to Stellar Cartography and start mapping and scanning inside the Nebula before we step foot inside that thing" the Captain ordered.

"Aye Captain, I'm on my way and I'll keep you apprised of the results" Johan replied as his relief replaced him at Ops.

"Lieutenant SanChez let me know if we should get any unwelcome visitors heading out way" Jamie ordered.

"As you wish Sir" Maria replied having already changed Screens to a defensive posture.

The Captain looked over at his newest Crew member "Lieutenant Sayvek, I would like you to start scanning the Nebula as well.....two scans are better than one...perhaps you'll have a different perspective from the Bridge" Jamie ordered with a grin.

" Certainly Captain. This would explain gravimetric issues experienced recently on M-69," Sayvek replied.

Sarissa has to admit she was intrigued, what kind of species could cause gravimetric waves? No doubt they’d find out.
