[Bridge]

The following morning the Alpha Shift, which comprised most of the Senior Officers, were on the Bridge at zero eight hundred as was their practice. Captain O'Connell was at the conn going over a few last minute details before the mission started when his comm sounded "O'Connell here."

"Captain, Commander Devroe. I just doing last minute checks with the Away Mission people then I'll come up to the Bridge" Angel explained.

"Take your time Number One, we should arrive within the hour. O'Connell out" as Jamie resumed going over the items on his PaDD.

Shortly Ensign Hanes called out "Captain, Valdaron is coming into view; we should be able to set an orbit parallel to the ring soon."

"Excellent Mr. Hanes, drop us out of warp...full impulse" O'Connell ordered happy to have finally arrived. "Aye Captain" as Hanes did as ordered.

"Communications hail Valdaron" O'Connell ordered just as Angel exited the Lift. Walking up behind Helm Jamie waited for the connection to be made. Shortly an older man appeared on the view screen "Good Morning. I'm Captain Jamie O'Connell commanding Officer of the Federation Starship USS Peel. We're here to assist you."

Sarissa was sitting waiting for the response, she wanted to be on hand just incase her input was needed at all.

< Valdaron Gov't Head>

" Are we ever glad to see you Captain. A malicious set of events has caused our world to begin breaking down. Our systems are all impared. We normally vent off worlders but we are in a grave state." replied an older alien being.

O'Connell could see the concern in this being's eyes "That's why we're here to help in any we can" then he paused "My First Officer, Commander Devroe, will be heading up the Away Team and will have Engineering to assist. Also Star Fleet protocol dictates we send a Security Team with them as well" he explained thinking Security was a good precaution heading into an unknown world.

" Your translation of security suggests weapons. Normally I would say no but given the situation I will permit it." The Gov't Head replied.

"Good Sir; I'll instruct my people to be discreet with their weaponry" O'Connell replied "I'll have my Away Team beam down to your Industrial Complex within the hour" O'Connell stated then gave Communications the signal to terminate the connection.

[Bridge]

After their conversation Jamie turned to Sarissa "Counselor does this being seem genuine or is it hiding something" he inquired not quite sure.

“He seemed genuine enough Sir” Sarissa smiled. “However he was very concerned about the idea of the security team and weapons, there’s definitely something he’s holding back but I don’t know what. It might be nothing to worry about, but I’d urge caution.”

Looking towards O'Connell "I guess I better get a move on then" as she tapped her comm "Lieutenant Flannery meet me in Transporter Room One with your engineering team" Angel ordered.

"We'll be there shortly Commander" Marcus replied then grabbed the tools and headed out with his team.

Looking over at Maria "Lieutenant SanChez have Security meet up with us as well but only phasers since we don't want to alarm any of the citizens" Devroe ordered.

"As you wish Commander" Maria replied then tapped her comm instructing her people.

"Let's wait on Medical for the time being until we know if there's a need for them or not" O'Connell ordered "All of you be careful and stay alert. I want everyone back in one piece....that's an order" Jamie stated with a smirk.

Angel smiled "As you wish Captain" turning and walked to the Lift "Deck Three."

Jamie turned to the Counselor "I'll have you remain on the Bridge for the time being to assist me until we know if you're needed planet side, if you wouldn't mind."

“Of course Sir, you know me always happy to be on hand” Sarissa grinned.

Walking over to Science "Lieutenant Sayvek have you uncovered anything interesting concerning Valdaron" O'Connell inquired.

" Actually yes. Valdaron is a Bishop Ring a type of hypothetical rotating wheel space station originally proposed in 1997 by Forrest Bishop on Earth. They have a complex governmental parliamentary system operate under a heterarchy. No doubt the being we were greeted by. From his tone sir something has gone awry with the engineering systems that avails the station to rotate." Sayvek replied.

Hearing Sayvek's findings O'Connell tapped his comm "Commander Devroe, Lieutenant Sayvek's scans show a definite engineering problem; possibly the ring's inability to rotate so go from there" he explained.

[Transporter Room One]

"Thank you Lieutenant, Captain that information will be a big help I'm sure. Looks like we're ready to beam down so I'll report back when we know something more concrete" Devroe replied.

With both Security and Engineering assembled they all stepped onto the transporter pads as Angel turned to her Team "Let's be careful down there and stay alert....ready?" as they all nodded "Good" turning to the Operator "Energize" as the Team disappeared in a steam of white light.

[Bridge]

Now that the Away Team had departed Captain O'Connell returned to his seat as he turned to Sarissa "This is the part of the job that I hate.....it's the waiting when if I had my way I'd be down there with them" he stated knowing as Captain his place was to remain aboard and in command of the Ship.

“I can understand that Sir” Sarissa offered a warm smile. “Starfleet are quick to remind Captains that their place is onboard the ship, but they don’t think of the mental toll it has at times. I’m sure the away team will keep us well updated.”

Jamie returned her smile "Thank you Counselor and Commander Devroe is very good at giving us an update when she's leading an Away Team" he stated feeling a little better about the whole situation.
